#52 Kylie Minogue - Dancing

The staying power of this has been so good - if only it hadn’t had such a screwed up release strategy it could have actually been a decent sized Top 20/30 hit.

It has had no streaming so it was never going to be a top 20 hit. Selling a 100 copies a day on itunes when Kylie is in every paper, getting radio play, has promo happening and an album to drop in a few days isn't the sign of a hit.

I think the point was that if the single hadn't leaked a month before release it would have gotten higher than its no 47 peak (maybe not top 20 but possibly top 30).

I'm not sure what your point is. The original poster said that he was surprised by the longevity of the song in the iTunes chart. It's been over 2.5 months which is a long time by any measure for a "heritage" act. Also, radio haven't played Dancing for weeks.

 02. Lil Dicky

With this now ahead of Rudimental on both iTunes and Spotify, could take official #1 on Friday

Please No!

Has This Is Me any chance at all of taking number 1?

It is currently number 1 according to OCC page. :o

The top 100 singles/albums update is on OCC page. ^_^

According to OCC, she is currently at #1, 14 copies ahead of Rudimental so I’m guessing Lil Dicky is at #3

Would be great for 'This Is Me' to get to Number 1 this week then to go away afterwards to make way for some new music.

I knew This Is Me had gotten a boost from Real Full Monty: Ladies Night but didn't think it would be #1! While I love the Greatest Showman's soundtrack, This Is Me has gotten a bit tiring recently so I don't particularly want it at the top that much, nor do I want Rudimental to have a second week.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I'd be happy if Freaky Friday was #1

Lil Dicky is at #3 today but I think they will swap places by Friday.

The original poster said it would have been a decent sized top 20 hit which it would never have been with its streaming numbers. If it had been traditionally released a week or 2 before the album that doesn't mean everyone that has purchased it so far would have done it all in 1 week. It is a advantage in some ways to release a song so far ahead of an album as there is no 'I'll just wait and get the album next week'.

The original poster said top 20/30. Also had it been released in February (a month and a half before the album) the release would have dovetailed with the initial fanbase purchases (which took it to no 2 on iTunes), the Saturday Night Takeaway performance (which sent it back into the iTunes top 10 a month after release), the video being released and Radio 2 A List. So yes, a top 30 placing would certainly not have been out the question.

Steps got to what #37 with itunes number 1 and a lot more buzz and that was a year ago and the downloads market is ever shrinking. No matter how you swing it if you haven't got streaming numbers you aint getting nowhere in the singles chart.

Steps got to #37 in the week Ed Sheeran had thirteen new entries in the top 20 from his album, in an era without ACR bumping the big hits down the chart. Honestly I think all Kylie needed for a top 40 hit was the Ant & Dec performance on the same week of release. It wouldn't have stuck around quite so long maybe but it would've been a comfortable top 40 hit, and managed what Paloma's Crybaby did at the very least.

Streaming is important but you *can* chart without much of an impact on Spotify etc, it's just quite limiting in terms of how high up you can manage.

And also how long you chart for. Without streaming you will do 1 week top 40. She has been much better off with Dancing lingering around, longer airplay, longer promotion period. 1 week top 40 wouldn't make it more successful if it was 39-57-out. With the album having dropped and the song vanished.
