There's also an aspect wherein it puts the song at the forefront of their attention, possibly for the first time ever. People might hear songs they like when they're out and about, but unless they're music collecting obsessives, they won't think about it by the end of the day, and if they don't buy the songs then, they won't ever until it's so blatantly in front of them on the TV. I can rattle off tonnes of songs I know I love, but don't yet own because...I'll do it eventually. :D
