I hold ICBTO in such higher regard especially (aside from it being an incredible track) because it helped me through the extremely tricky January exam season that year. Took away the stresses & strains.

Have been listening to his music all day. It's easy to understate how much I was obsessed with everything he put out in 2013. Forgot how much I love Always On The Run, which was a bonus track on True.

His albums were great - True especially so - but he had so many wonderful deep cuts and one-off singles that never made it onto an album, many of which Midge has covered in his playlist.

Fade Into Darkness has a special place in my heart, the sample is perfect and lyrically is such a touching song that I fell in love with the first time I heard it.

"This world can seem cool and grey

But you and I are here today

And we won't fade into darkness

No, we won't fade into darkness

Nothing to fear but fear itself

We'll be okay just keep the faith"

Heaven is another song I adore from his (amongst many) if only it had ever gone a release

An old bf of me passed away as it started getting promoted so it reminds me of euphoric sadness - really powerful record tbh

what a talented, ambitious, beautiful man

from ‘levels’ to ‘wake me up’ to the various remixes

it’s such a sign of a quality musician when 15 different posters have 25 favourite songs by that one artist; be it remixes, originals or live tracks

aviici looked forward in such a positive, grandiose, fabulous fashion; those melodies, those breakdowns, those songs

forever a KING.

Two days after the prolific Swedish DJ Avicii — born Tim Bergling — was found dead at the age of 28 in Muscat, Oman, the country’s authorities have officially ruled out any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Per a CNN report, the Royal Oman Police carried out two postmortems and confirmed there was “no criminal suspicion” at play, with further information likely emerge in the next few days. The police also confirmed his parents, sisters, and brother had arrived in the country and are “completely devastated.” Avicii, whose constant stream of Top 40 hits dominated the charts over the past decade, was open with his addiction to alcohol during the peak of his fame, ultimately choosing to retire from touring in 2016 to focus on his health.

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time,” his representative said in a statement on Thursday. “No further statements will be given.”

It's hard to say whether it's good to know that or not; just hopefully he died painlessly and peacefully tbh

I agree, and I also was wondered if he was involved in some violent death as Oman is very unsafe iirc and they use physical torture as punishment!!!

Are you sure you don't mean Yemen which is the next door country? I thought Oman was safe enough, although the very warm weather there this time of year in that part of the world could be a possible health danger of course, especially to those with underlying health issues I would think.

What I meant by unsafe is that the country has strict laws, rules, death penalty etc etc.

from wiki:

Oman is an absolute monarchy in which all legislative, executive, and judiciary power ultimately rests in the hands of the hereditary sultan, and in which the system of laws is based firmly on Islamic sharia. Although a report by the U.S. State Department, based on conditions in 2010, summed up the human rights situation in the country by asserting that the government “generally respected the human rights of its citizens,”[1] the details in the report itself strongly indicate otherwise, and several international human-rights groups have described the state of human rights in Oman in highly critical terms

I do wonder what he was doing in Oman, it's not the type of country I would like to visit anyway. I don't believe the cause of his death has anything to do with him being there though.

think he was just there with friends on holidays

oman is a pretty trendy holiday destination, 100% safe

pretty sure it's the same situation as amy winehouse, health complications due to years of alcohol comsumption

One of the biggest names in dance music of the last decade, Avicii was EDM's first truly global superstar.

From the beginning of the 2010s right up until his untimely death in April 2018, his brand of uplifting house found success in the charts, leading to two Grammy nominations, collaborations with Coldplay and Madonna and a worldwide arena tour - the first DJ to pull off such a feat. Below are his biggest tracks in the UK, according to Official Charts Company data. Check out Avicii's complete UK chart history here.

10. Seek Bromance

Before Avicii, the DJ went under the name Tim/Berg, a shortening of his real name Tim Bergling. His UK breakthrough hit Seek Bromance was originally a hit across Europe in its instrumental form, while the addition of uncredited vocals by Amanda Wilson (famous for her work with the Freemasons) saw it enter the Top 20 in the UK, peaking at Number 13.

7. I Could Be The One (Nicktim)

Avicii's first Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart arrived in February 2013. A collaboration with Nicky Romero (the Nicktim in the title is a combination of their first names 'Nick' Rotteveel and 'Tim' Bergling) I Could Be The One was the song that confirmed Avicii's global superstar status, reaching the Top 10 in 14 countries. Despite 509,000 sales in downloads, it finishes seventh on his overall Top 10 as it pre-dates the streaming era, which started in summer 2014.

5. Lonely Together

Avicii's most recent single, released in August 2017, already places fifth on his Top 10 and is the producer's most streamed song in the UK, currently on 55.5 million plays. Lonely Together was one of six songs on a self-titled EP released by Avicii last year, marking his return to music after announcing his retirement from touring the previous year. The EP was meant to be one of three parts of his third studio album.

1. Wake Me Up

Wake Me Up was a worldwide smash on arrival. It was the fastest selling single of 2013, with opening week sales just shy of 267,000. It spent three weeks at the top of the Official Singles Chart and went on to be that year's third biggest seller. It's one of the best-selling singles of all time in the UK, ranking 43rd with pure sales of 1.5 million, elevated to just over 2 million when streaming is added.

Wow 2m for "Wake Me Up"! Totally deserved though. What an iconic anthem.

Shame "I Could Be The One" is so low but I guess 500k+ is fantastic for a proper dance anthem - it was before Avicii went stratospheric.
