Wow, I'd never really thought about the fact that Gaga has never debuted at #1 here before! Queen of enduring hits.

TEOG was huge.

I don’t think Judas stopped it from going to #1 it was more the fact it was a mid week release wasn’t it.

I think it is seen as a classic song by her and it’s sold 800K too (Over 600K being pure sales too I think).

It could’ve easily at least went top 5 had it got a full week of sales.

Gaga’s pretty much always released OA OS. Only Just Dance Really had like a pre order type release didn’t it. She’s never debuted at #1 in the singles chart either in the UK.

And was it only released as a promo single at the time too before being upgraded to official single?

I remember it returning to the top 10 after it fell out the top 20. It was like a yo yo chart run what stuck around for ages.

This is why Edge of Glory, with real instrumentation, which is something the rest of BTW lacks, should have been the first single. Followed by Marry The Night, but with actual real instrumentation like EOG, thrn followed by BTW and ScheiBe! Judas ... no.

I don't think there was a scenario where BTW would end up having 5 hits. I think it would've been the most successful with this order

1. Born This Way

2. The Edge of Glory (with the original video)

3. Marry the Night

4. You and I

MTN actually did decently as a 5th single considering the overexposure she had at that time. It sold 720k pure copies in the US and 255k in the UK. If it had been pushed earlier with a shorter video I have no doubt it would've done much better.

It could easily have had 5 hits! Around he same time Katy got 5 no.1s from the same album!! Yes MTN needed a better, shorter video tbh. A victim of overhype AGAIN!

Katy got a a few of her #1s by releasing rent a rapper versions of tracks though like remix versions what weren’t on the album.

E.T, and Last Friday Night definitely had remixes.

She managed 6 in total as well including Part Of Me which is just crazy!

It's not fair to compare a regular very successful album (BTW) to a phenomenal, record-equalling single success of TD.

It bothers me that people judge Gaga of all artist through chart success when everything about her indicates that she's more David Bowie like pop auteur with a vision of her art. If she gets hits, that's brilliant, but she herself has been past of the "have to make it" phase ("TAKE MY PICTURE HOLLYWOOD! I'M GONNA BE A STAR" like she put it herself at the Grammys 2010, that was over NINE f***ing years ago lol)

E.T., LFN & The One That Got Away were all hits before the remixes. LFN was stuck at #2, the remix helped it reach #1.

Really hoping we're not waiting too long for something new, hope it's this year whilst A Star is Born is still in people's minds

I'll be low key gutted if the next era isn't a success for her. I've got really high hopes after the public's love of A Star is Born and the general sway in opinions towards her.

Even my parents asked me to make them a Gaga album after they'd watched the film!

I think it's a good sign though - their comments were along the lines of "previously we just thought she was this talentless person who cared more about costume changes than singing but we have to admit that she had a really good voice in the film, much better than we were expecting" - so if they think that, maybe she's opened up a whole new market! My dad even said that I'll Never Love Again was like a Whitney classic but better! :o
I doubt Steps registered on their radar. I do recall them mentioning it being Bucks Fizz lite cheeeeese though! :D

Omfg they are reet tbh!!

I bet your playlist for them totally bypassed alll of Artpop except for the title track and Gypsy, like 95% of Born This Way except Edge and Marry The Night and BTW title track, and nearly all of Joanne though?

Yes!!!!!!

I'd say 40% Joanne, 40% A Star is Born, 10% Born this Way, 5% Fame Monster and 5% Artpop.

I think they would hate Alejandro... Speechless was the one I put on but they may not have hated Teeth tbf.

Yup!! Alejandro is not a song for parents  It's very 2010 and of its time pop music for BBC1 under 25s tbh. Teeth is far more mature and adult contemporary!!
