I thought semi 2 was so weak in comparison to semi 1,Australia was my fave tonight followed by Denmark. Surprised Poland didn't go through as it was a catchy song, and I'm happy for Slovenia to.

Big surprises again with Russia and Romania getting eliminated but the songs were terrible.

I really do think it's a battle now between Cyprus and Israel to win.

With the collapse of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Greece, Russia, Romania and Poland this year, if anyone DARES to mention political/bloc voting in this forum again I will ban you from existence.

The Melfest flops were everywhere on backing vox duties tonight. Mahan Moin, Sara Li and Alvaro Estrella ('Bedroom' was robbed)
Alvaro might have been on that stage more than Valentina! He always seems to be someones backing singer/dancer. (yes Bedroom was utterly robbed)

Norway: I honestly don't think I care what charisma he's supposed to exude, although that's partly because I find him super smackable, I just can't get past the average song and the childish staging is doing very little to sway me into buying this at all. I don't get why this is better than something cheesy like Love Is Blind or Cheesecake in the past, and while I can acknowledge the violin solo is a "moment", that's all it has going for me and I find it more annoying live than on studio somehow. 3.5/10

Romania: This song has grown on me quite a lot and I really like what they did with it! They made the stage feel very full and her vocals were faultless. So, I'd say they stand a very good chance of qualifying. There's limits as to how much I can enjoy it because the song will never fully be there for me but I can always applaud someone selling it to the best of their ability and I never thought I'd ever think this as a 7. 7/10

Serbia: I think people really enjoy this because it feels like a bit of a hark back to the mid 2000's, but for me that's no good if the whole song isn't there. I feel similar to how I did with Ljubav Je, it's all just a bit messy and fails to connect properly. Feels like it goes on for way longer than 3 minutes aswell. I do love the ethnic feel to it though and the lead vocallist has a great tone. 6/10

San Marino: Jessika is really hard to watch, isn't she? All wide eyed and intense to the extent I felt like recoiling. The staging is... a choice, I'd rather they kept a meme-able quote really, at least it would give it some comedy. I've got used to Jenny B, who actually delivered her part well and I did feel as embarassed as I initially did, and you know what, I think they did a good job of a good song. It's all just... good but not great. Which for San Marino is something. 6.5/10

Denmark: The song has a lot of potential but it fails for me on two parts. He is has such a weak, paper thin and powerless vocal which therefore means the song loses the power it should have. Secondly, the crescendo never really comes, it never really builds to anything much higher than it started with even though the money note tries to. I do actually like it, it just could be more than what it is with a different singer most of all. Probably my favourite song so far but Romania tops them for being by far the best at selling their song. 6.5/10

Russia: The juries SURELY can't reward someone who can't even sing her own chorus when sat still. She was laughably drowned out and honestly, I found the whole thing uncomfortable, from plonking her up on a mountain, to drowning her out, to shots where she looked like she'd just given up. I honestly just wanted it stop. But for what it's worth, I do think the song is decent and the male dancer throwing it around was fun. 4/10

Moldova: WOW, this semi needed that BADLY. For most of the songs, I've been writing these commentaries during the performance but I couldn't take my eyes off that spectacle for a single second. Now that's how you do fun and bring a bit of novelty to the stage without taking the piss and I think the song is fantastic anyway. Not one of my favourites of the year but a breath of fresh air after the 6 songs before it. 8/10

The Netherlands: I hate the song, I hate the staging and he comes across as an absolute prick which doesn't help. 2/10

Australia: Remember when you all said this could win? Poor thing. I've always thought the song was really good but was hoping the staging elevated it but she just looked really uncomfortable throwing herself around looking like a Quality street. And, sorry to sound biased, but all of the hair whipping and what not, all felt a bit silly when we've watched Eleni kill it. To try and part from sounding too negative though, while her vocals weren't at the quality I hoped they'd be, you could tell she was giving it 100% with whatever voice she did have left. And, all of this doesn't change the fact the song is still miles better than a lot that has preceded it, and first and foremost, this is a song contest. It's just a shame what's become of it because it should be an 8.5 or 9 for me. 7.5/10

Georgia: Can't exactly fault their performance but I totally drifted off from that and started texting people. Not my thing in any way and failed to grab me even slightly. But it's not Rybak so it's not last. 3/10

Poland: Good song! I wish there were less shots of the DJ being awkward as hell though. I find watching DJ's perform just fist pumping uncomfortable as it is, but the shots of him doing some snake action not even looking at the camera properly were very odd. Lukas's vocals are pretty poor too. But, the energy this song brought was absolutely essential at this stage and if I forget the DJ was even there, I can say I enjoyed it. 7/10

Malta: I'm not really sure what I think of the staging, I feel like it was meant to feel like something really big and creative. But, it just felt a bit... eh, I don't know what's going on and I'm not sure if I care. The song still frustrates me as it feels like it could be a 9/10 but it's just... not. Tonight, I'm really just having to consider what songs I like though because there seems to be few packages that are really being brought to the stage. And the song is a 7/10 and it didn't embarass itself so. 7/10

Hungary: I kinda wish they'd done more with the staging, like Georgia and Cyprus in 2016. But, for what it was, I think it did the job it was meant to and I actually really like the song for whatever reason and it made more of an impact on me than Malta before it. Maybe because of less expectations? 7/10

Latvia: I'm not really sure what happened, in the first half, I was really captured and I was like YASS. Then I feel like somewhere in the second half, she went in the wrong key and just stayed there? Still, I had little expectations for that song and I'd kinda forgotten it was coming and I thought it was another good, 7/10 kinda job. Roll on Sweden though, like, SERIOUSLY. 7/10

Sweden: Okay, so I'm SLIGHTLY disappointed but only because I've seen it before with pre-recorded vocals. And the backing vocals kinda took me away from the slick feel of it all. But performance wise, everyone in this semi bar Moldova should feel embarassed looking at that. I'd like to see more strength in his vocal by the final because I know he's capable, his Melodifestivalen final performance was much stronger but yeah, go Benjamin. That should be the semi winner for me and I really hope it is, so much better and put together than Rybak. 9/10

Montenegro: I'm not gonna lie, I struggle with foreign language ballads in general and this doesn't grab me at all. But, it was competent. 5.5/10

Slovenia: You know what, I absolutely hated the sound of the sound break. It should have been so much cringier than that but I dare say it kinda worked. I feel like the production and delivery was different from what I'd seen so far because I'd never been sold on the song, but that was really f***ing good? Maybe it's because the semi has been so lacklustre but damn, I'm actually gonna be really disappointed when that doesn't make it - my shock of the entire semis. Go Lea, what a performer. 9/10

Ukraine: I've always found this a tad irritating and I think that's down to Melovin. I don't like his look, diction or vocal style but tonight (once again maybe down to my low standards for the semi) I shook my head and thought you know what, this is actually really good. 7.5/10

01 Sweden / 9/10

In which universe Poland is good? :D It was the most disastrous attempt of EDM Eurovision has ever seen and the singer was laughably bad.

Well, it was my pre-SF2 favourite based on the studio version... dropping down to 8th on the night which is pretty tragic. The vocal was horrific.

Someone on twitter said Australia was the worst vocal ever at Eurovision. It wasn’t even the worst this year. Stupid people.
Some of the Eurofans towards Australia are ridiculous  Like fair enough if you didn't think it was great or the song isn't to your taste, and no it wasn't her best vocal ever, but no matter what Australia do they're like "THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN BE IN IT!1! TRASH ENTRY!1!" no matter what they send. It's always the ones who have their top 5 as like Montengro, Albania, Armenia etc. and think that they are "better" because the native language ballads rather than English pop like some sort of Salvador Sobral army

Most of the negative comments I’ve seen have been around:

1. Poles and Greeks throwing their toys out of the pram because their respective countries didn’t qualify claiming its unfair and calling it 'Politicvision'

2. Australia don’t deserve to be in the final taking up the position of a European country

3. Ireland don’t deserve to be in the final because the gay theme is disgusting and unnatural and vile

4. Hungary is noise

5. Why are people voting chicken noises through over Poland and Greece?

I actually haven’t seen any Russians making much noise!

Add to that the 'omgz UK did badly cos of politics/brexit!!1' comments which we'll almost certainly get after we flop in the final. :')

Absolutely - looks like we aren’t the only country who think they’re entitled to success no matter what tat they send!

Pretty much

Also Spanish eurofans being absolutely RABID over Tu cancion

I don't think its that we think we are entitled to success it's more that we haven't done as well the past few years we are looking for someone/something to blame other than our poor song choices. (Lucie Jones aside as that song was marvellous)

Jonjo also sent me Brexiteers yesterday like "GET THIS SHIT OFF MY SCREEN I HATE EUROPE!1!!!1" comments on a post  Eurovision brings the worst out in some people lmao

I really think Lucie saved an otherwise dull af song by being so fabulous and talented... 15th was a really good result for that.

To be fair. Hungary was just noise and Ireland doesn’t deserve to be in the final because it’s horrendous

The Romanian national broadcaster has stated that voting issues during the semi-final last night are the reason why The Humans failed to qualify for the final.

TVR, Romania’s national broadcaster has released a statement following the country failing to qualify for the Grand Final, for the first time since the semi-finals were introduced. The broadcaster states that televoting issues meant that the diaspora across Europe was unable to vote for Romania. According to TVR;

"During the 15 minutes allocated to the voting session, many Romanians from abroad complained of technical failures to the telephone system. Messages, sent through social networks, came from countries with large Romanian communities, such as Germany and Italy, where telephone operators had issues with allowing people to vote our representatives (Romania) in the contest. Thus, in Italy, three of the national networks did not operate that night, and in Germany the subscribers of one of the major telephone operators were unable to send the votes."
