Confide in Me certainly brought the "wow" element, is that really Kylie.

People were surprised by the complete change in direction and also the video was highly different to anything she has done before.

Put Yourself In My Place, is the better of the two songs but didn't have the attention grabbing moment.

I always see it as Confide in Me saw Kylie wow by doing something she hadn't done before and Put Yourself in My Place saw her wow by doing something she had done before but not to the same standard. Don't think any Kylie ballads got any major sort of critical acclaim previously. Big shame if the public weren't as impressed.

Her ballads by large don't get acclaim critically or by the fans.

Throughout Kylie's career, i think she has delivered some amazing ballads.

Throughout Kylie's career, i think she has delivered some amazing ballads.

That's true, although a lot of her great ballads remained unreleased or are really deep cuts. Songs like 'If You Don't Love Me', 'Ocean Blue' and 'Flower' are beauties.

Of course, ballads don't have to be slow and stripped back. Depending on your definition, the likes of 'Tightrope', 'Sleeping with the Enemy' and 'Crystallize' can be considered as such.

I think that 'Step Back In Time' may drop next and possibly 'Dancing'

I know you're feeling me cause you like it like this

18. Spinning Around // 8.35 (6: Stuart25, Nick F1, pippa // 10: SamJudd, Monzo, Liam, Jay, Michael Andrew, liamk97, Theo)

One of the greatest comebacks in pop culture, the turn of the millennium saw Kylie return to the top of the charts with the disco-infused 'Spinning Around'. Although intended for Paula Abdul (who has a co-write credit), the song suits Kylie's situation perfectly; its theme of reinvention and finding your comfort zone making a nod to Impossible Princess in a tongue-n-cheek way. It's glorious, infectious chorus is an irresistible call to the dancefloor, as demonstrated by its nightclub video, complete with dance routines and a bold fashion statement...

Every inch of you spells out desire

17. Wow // 8.35 (3: blacksquare // 10: SamJudd, Feel the Fever, Red Blooded Man, gooddelta, Nick Jonas, pippa, Michael Andrew, liamk97)

Drawing influence from the disco era again, 'Wow' is the hyperactive second single from X, resembling a modern-day take on her high energy PWL songs. Kylie declares her adoration towards an individual; their energy reflecting the intensity of the dancefloor. It was Kylie's first instance of releasing a post-album single in the digital era, but a strong promotional campaign helped 'Wow' climb up the charts and become the most successful single from the album.

I for one believe Wow is a much better song than Spinning Around.

I rarely listen to Spinning Around and usually only listen to it when Kylie performs it.

Wow on the other side, is one of my most played Kylie songs.

I totally forgot about this rate. A bit low for Spinning Around.

You're not the only one. :kink:

How on earth is "Wow" a better song than "Spinning Around" in any shape or form?!

Was literally a matter of which had more 10s! I love Wow but I agree Spinning Around is better. That would easily be in my Top 10.

Both are songs I rarely listen too and both are overrated in my opinion

I don't dislike Spinning Around but i would rate many of other hits much greater than it.

Spinning Around - Still Love it to this day and marked a incredible return for Kylie who before this, her career was on the downturn and going back to pop music was not only a smart move but the correct one, but updated from her PWL days of course with a more dance, disco-pop sound which really suited her and brought our beloved Kylie back to the top where she belongs. I remember being so happy when I first heard this, especially considering all my friends were calling her a has-been and mocked me for still liking her, but when this hit the #1 spot they all of sudden went quiet and I was thrilled. It was a welcome surprise when this managed to do what it did, as I was happy enough for it to go top 10. Even to this day I'd still rank this pretty high in my all time fave Kylie songs and talk about kicking off a new decade with such style and elegance, and those gold hot pants made the whole thing even more iconic.

Hard to believe that this is 18 years old now. Also it's strange that this was originally offered to Paula Abdul first, and to be honest it's hard to imagine her singing this, it probably would have been very different with a much harder edge and beat to it, and doubt she would have had the success that Kylie had with this. Maybe would have charted in America if Paula sung this and would have seen minor success here in the UK, in my opinion.

Wow - Always liked this one and I know that a lot of Kylie fans are pretty split on this and felt it shouldn't have been the 2nd single from 'X', but considering this had the best response charts/downloads wise, it would have been stupid not for the label not to release it, and became the most successful from that album and even helped boost album sales. Doubt anything else from the album would have done half as well, (unless 'The One' got released as lead instead). Considering the mixed response to '2 Hearts', this felt more like a return to form for Kylie and you gotta admit the song is pretty catchy and full of colourful beats and disco swirls. I remember first hearing this on the Kylie show and instantly fell in love with it and was really pleased when it was announced as the 2nd single and found it a million times better than the lead single. A good song and glad it's done so well on here.

Hope we get more results soon, and the next ones to drop I predict are 'I Should Be So Lucky' & again 'Step Back In Time' (sounding like a broken record on the latter one).

I love the version of wow she did at the first Christmas show at royal Albert hall show the orchestra really worked well with it.

I'm dreaming that you're in love with me
Like I'm in love with you

16. I Should Be So Lucky // 8.37 (6: blacksquare, Davidson // 10: SamJudd, Red Blooded Man, gooddelta, Josh!, pippa, Hide&Seek)

Despite being a very last minute creation after SAW forgot Kylie was travelling to work with them, 'I Should Be So Lucky' became the song to put Kylie's name in the charts all over the world. Its lyrics of being unlucky in love are built upon a looped drum-machine and high-energy bubblegum pop sounds; typical SAW formula but their midas touch was exactly what Kylie needed to rebrand from soapstar to popstar. Coupled with a cute video pushing a girl-next-door image and including the iconic moment of Kylie giggling away in a bubble bath, 'I Should Be So Lucky' remains one of Kylie's signature songs.

Remember the old days
Remember The O'Jays

15. Step Back in Time // 8.41 (4: Jade // 10: Red Blooded Man, Monzo, Qween, Michael Andrew, Davidson, liamk97, Hide&Seek)

I wanna funk! I wanna F-F-U, F-U-N-K! During her progression into a more dance-influenced sound, Kylie looked to the past and took inspiration from the decade that dance music boogied its way into the mainstream. With references to popular dance moves and musical acts like The O'Jays and Jackson 5, 'Step Back in Time' pays homage to 70s music and culture. It celebrates the power that music and nostalgia has to make you forget present problems and inhibitions, which is put into practice with its energetic disco production that's bound to have you bouncing along.

No surprise there, Showgirl version of I Should Be So Lucky remains one of my favourite version of the songs, don't really like the re-recorded abbey road version though.

When I first started listening to Step Back in Time and I was still learning English, I thought Kylie was swearing at the beginning of the song!

ISBSL is something I never really listen to of my own accord, but it is a whole lot of fun and a classic.

SBIT however is a stone cold classic.

Step Back In Time has a party feel to it and on the other hand I Should Be So Lucky has a nostalgic feel to it when i hear or play it now.

I Should Be So Lucky is more classic.
