For the second year in a row, Jay ensures that a Girls Aloud song that would have been just an AQ without his votes gets to go to the semi-finals as Untouchable joins The Promise there. We get another 36th place being the second nominated song to go further as Ignorance also rids itself of the injustice that was it coming 36th last year and ends in 19th. Big improvement for Battlefield too, while Just Dance sees a huge improvement to make the top 10 70% filled with acts beginning with 'L'. Which it also was last year. It always is.

2009's round is always less of a question of who will win and more, how many points has Bad Romance won by this time? It remains the only song to have ever won the 2009 round and this time it has won by a larger margin than I think it has ever done before, by almost two hundred points ahead of its everpresent nearest rival, The Fear. What does that mean for its chances to win the whole thing this time? Poker Face and Release Me also go straight to the final this time, edging out the La Roux x2 dominance that band had last year.

Erm. Whatever the demographic change this year causing these shifts was, can it please not happen in future rounds? Almost uniformly all the worst songs are up and all my favourites are down. Mess. (WTF happened to 'End Credits' and 'Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)' in particular???)

 

Agnes and Paramore are the only saving graces here. Paramore is at least a very good one I guess.
