Posted September 4, 20186 yr Which sports related books have you read recently/do you intend to read in the future? I've recently bought a book on the Tour de France which I'm looking forward to reading soon. I also used to read the 'Football Records' annual until I realised it was the same thing every year with a few bits added on :P Another I've read recently is the 'Olympics Miscellany' book which was another interesting read!
September 4, 20186 yr Formula 1 Yearbook The Circuits of Formula One Racing Post Annual 2018. I've read quite a bit of sport books mostly to do with football, snooker, Formula One and horse racing.
September 5, 20186 yr Author I think I've got an old racing car book in my room actually! I think I read it MANY years ago when I was very into that sort of stuff.
September 5, 20186 yr 'All Played Out' by Pete Davies is the ultimate football book - he has inside access to the England team at Italia '90 and is a generally fascinating insight into football and English society at the time. Highly recommended.
September 5, 20186 yr I've had countless Sports reference books & encyclopedias down the years. The entire history of the World Cup is perhaps the most engaging read & certainly was the one I found hardest to put down as a youngster!
January 2, 20205 yr Author Bump! Bought myself 'Football's Strangest Matches' by Andrew Ward with a voucher I've had for over a year, hoping to get that read next! Also got Top Gear's '100 Dream Cars' and Ned Boulting's 'On the Road Bike' for Christmas to go with the other Ned Boulting book I've not touched as well as the Chris Froome autobiography I haven't started either :kink:
January 2, 20205 yr Got Ruby Walsh's autobiography. Along with Jake Humphreys book on F1 for Christmas. Plenty of sport books to keep entertained throughout the year.
January 2, 20205 yr I got 'The Secret Cyclist: Real Life as a Rider in the Professional Peloton' for Christmas and I'm very much looking forward to getting stuck into it. : )
January 2, 20205 yr I sort of preferred sport books to children's books when I was a child. I was told off by a teacher for bringing the Racing Post as a reading book at primary school. Certainly not for the gambling side to it. I could read it by the time I was 5.
February 14, 20205 yr Author Reading the Froome autobiography now, it's really interesting to read how he was the last choice in the Vuelta squad and only got in because another rider was ill, and he would have probably been kicked out of Sky if he didn't prove himself and suddenly he did his best performance ever and came second. I do for the most part believe he's a clean rider but that fact itself really does look a little suspicious...
March 20, 20205 yr Author Went into town today and picked up Howard Webb's autobiography from a charity shop. Probably the last chance I'll get to buy a book so thought I'd make the most of it.
March 21, 20205 yr Currently the autobiography of Frankie Dettori which was published in 2004. Good read.
January 7, 20214 yr Author Got a few more sporty books for Christmas! Peter Sagan's autobiography, which should certainly be interesting, plus Tour de France Miscellany. And I also picked up The Secret Footballer from a little free library so I've got that to read as well.
January 7, 20214 yr I got the Formula One Yearbook 2006, Winning At All Costs a book about sportsman are determined to win at all costs.
January 7, 20214 yr Of all the biographies I've read, Rudolf Caracciola's 'a racing driver's world' is one of the most incredible, jaw dropping, tragic and inspirational things I've ever come across. It was a different world of course but knowing that back then that something as seemingly innocuous as a strong gust of wind could cause a fatal accident really demonstrates how brave those drivers were Edited January 7, 20214 yr by Severin
December 30, 20213 yr Author Anoyone read any good books over the last year or got any for Christmas? I picked up Chris Hoy's autobiography in a charity shop over the summer which was a really good read, I'm not as into track cycling as road so it was interesting to see how that all worked. I also got a book for Christmas about a guy who cycled round the world with a cat which should be interesting!
December 30, 20213 yr Got the Jamie Carragher Greatest Games books last Xmas and it’s a really good read!
December 31, 20213 yr Author ^ Just looked that up, sounds very interesting! I imagine the personal element of the book (interviews etc.) would make it a good read. I've just picked up the autobiographies of Andrea Pirlo and Mo Farab from the Little Free Library in our woods, both should be interesting to read.
December 31, 20213 yr Got the Formula 1 Autobiography for Christmas, Frankie Dettori's new autobiography, A Year In The Life by Frankie Dettori, Desert Orchid by Jonathan Powell,
