September 16, 20186 yr And then people lie and are like all sanguine saying, ooh these songs ate fantastic this month! Buut do you EEVER hear them.mentioned ot get plays on plug again like vintage entries? Nope. we can't play every great entry as if it's a classic! i do feel like you're talking about argument points for the sake of argument points because A. the contest is created for people to pick the best song of a list of roughly 60 songs entered on a monthly basis, not create a bohemian rhapsody-style legacy and B. none of the situations mentioned actually seem to relate to any of your entries' success which is usually your point of disdain in this contest if you're just generally separating your success from the quality of contest entries these days then that's fine, but if your taste is to find the next big chart hit then BJSC shouldn't be your source because of the reasons bre mentioned. you can watch HITS TV or w/e. our jobs as mods in fact is to actively prevent these situations occurring if we can see it impacting its performance unfairly.
September 16, 20186 yr Honestly, though, the best part of this contest is finding the discoveries rather than having real chart success. The real chart success would merely be a nice thing to have. Also, take it from somebody who barely Q's and yes at times felt like quitting if you are still getting something out of it then I'd say continue if you don't then up to you if you want to leave.
September 16, 20186 yr i don't get this connection with BJSC having to have future hits / a representation of the real world's UK taste. we're not trying to find buzzjack's next major label A&R recruit. i think chart music atm is dreadful and i'm thankful that i get to hear music that is a reflection of close online friends, instead of destiny-anne down the road who faceplants a mince round and beans for dinner every night.
September 17, 20186 yr Doing well in the charts isn't a sign of quality, just look at the fact that Drake was #1 for 9 weeks with God's Plan.... There's so much in BJSC that wouldn't, never did or never will get a look in with the charts, but that's the whole point. As Lew said, there's so much shite in the charts rn and it's great to have an avenue to hear new stuff from genres outside of future bass, watered down Spotify pop/EDM and worst of all tuneless trap/rap! I couldn't care less if a song will go on to be a hit, if I love it I'll listen to it. Whinging about not doing well enough when you send misguided entries or moaning that the contest isn't analogous to a Future Hits playlist on Spotify isn't the way to go about it, I've had periods where I felt disillusioned from the contest or couldn't be bothered and just ducked out for a bit. Nobody is forcing you to enter  Besides, when you have sent real world hits, it's been in as said a Latin market, that's one corner and not one that really matches Buzzjack's tastes. Sending something that did well in one sphere doesn't, never has and never will guarantee success in another. A song could be #1 for 18 weeks in Kazakhstan but that doesn't mean it's smashing records here by default. Buzzjack likes what it likes, and it doesn't like what it doesn't, and it's never and has never been about xyz sending it or it being played on plug daily or whatever else. At the end of it all, BJSC is about finding and sharing music that otherwise people wouldn't come across. It shouldn't be about scrambling to do well or making excuses if you don't (and sure, it is really frustrating sometimes when you don't) or constantly bemoaning what does do well.

September 17, 20186 yr I mean honestly at LEAST have the decency to try Ethopia or Mauritius instead... not before jessie j has a go, even in desperate times i always think of the less fortunate
September 17, 20186 yr If we somehow entered a future top 40 (60), half of us would be bitching that this is the shittiest contest ever (and it would be true). As said before, bjsc is mainly about discovery, I'm the happiest if the semi thread comes up and I know <5 entries, so I have a better chance to find something awesome that I'm going to listen to many-many times in the future.

Certainly not as much. There are a lot more artists getting moderate success arguably but that doesn't really reflect in the charts much. BJSC is a great alternative with lots of new songs to discover each month, and out of 60~ songs everyone will usually come away with at least a handful of new discoveries they're glad they found. These days after a month in the charts quite often it'll be largely full of lots of the same songs, it just feels stale. They tend to be a watered down version of a collective taste of the country so near enough everything there is designed to appeal to as broad a market as possible meaning lots of songs are musically inoffensive, watered down and bland whereas BJSC represents the taste of around 60 different individuals- much more interesting and loads more variety.
September 17, 20186 yr Drake was number one because he releases good quality bangers xYou only like it bc trash attracts trash.

Then why when I played a mellow violin led female vocalist traditional Chinese song on plug EVEERYONE LAUGHED. Brer sent one almost IDENTICAL to that and it got TOP. FIVE. I send novelty, it flops. Others qualify. People then say, oh, songs work differently depending on the person. WHAT!!! I send Indian trance. Flops. Pete sends an almost identical song, mine was a bit better tbh but they were veery similar, one contest later and WINS. You can see why I'd be casually side eyeing the entire contest after all this, and those are just a few examples off the top of me heed.
September 17, 20186 yr You clearly didn't listen properly to Broken Love if you think it was Indian trance
September 17, 20186 yr Freya was such a fluke really, it's the type of song that would have done well in 2011 perhaps, both in BJSC and the charts, but there was nothing to suggest that it would ever blow up in either in 2018. So proud of her though <3 Back to the point though, I think BJSC is more important than ever now it is nothing like what's in the charts. Music discovery is the primary reason I continue to participate and I'm discovering more new music than ever through the contest now. There has always been unknown gems but now nearly everything is unknown (and much of it is gems), whereas at its worst, which admittedly is nearly a decade ago now, it would be a blessing to find four or five discoveries in amongst all the upcoming releases that people entered for an easy hit. September 17, 20186 yr I should never have entered this when I saw the dates really, as unfortunately was never going to have enough free time last week. I tried but only got round to listening to 15/28. Shall definitely be voting in the final though.
