Even that's debatable tbh. None of the Joanne singles were playlisted after Perfect Illusion which never progressed above the C-list (although they did later surprise us by B-listing The Cure). Her R1 days are definitely numbered.

True but the success of The Star is Born may put her in a better position to be playlisted when she releases her next studio album, even if Radio 1 won't touch anything from this soundtrack.

I don't get it, it's clearly a popular track from a popular movie, it's a ballad but it's not a super super slow one, it's no different from Lost without you/Be alright

What kind of nonsense is this? Since when is Radio 1 restricted to certein genres? They often playlist rap trash that doesn't resonate with the public.

 

Shallow is popular with the masses. It's a hit on all metrics and it should be playlisted. Period.

The playlist is as slow as the charts at the moment, becoming really disillusioned with it all - was really looking forward to the new breakfast show but every time I tune in it's just wall-to-wall repetitive hits and not much Greg. I'm sure it was much more varied a couple of years ago. Have found myself listening to more and more Radio 2 just for more variety even though that means hearing 70s MOR hits first thing in the morning!

Come on let's get real here.... GAGA is well into her 30's and Bradley Cooper is middle-aged; that's not R1's demographic, this track is R2 territory - it's not going to happen on R1, let it go... Jeez, you'll be campaigning for Susan Boyle's Christmas song to be playlisted next.

 

Besides, 'Shallow' is MOR soft rock dirge - there's a case for it not being played at all.
