Finally a much needed refresh for the aesthetic/opening titles. Given the shorter run time and vast character changes it's no surprise the opening has been made short and sweet. I assume it's Chester being depicted, Queens Park Bridge?

Eep at tonight's ending, guess there'll be a fire. I had read somewhere the McQueens were going to be moving and their house return to being a business of some sorts so I guess this is paving way for that.

 

Tomorrow is going to be a very quick wrap up of everything? It's the final episode of the week and the time jump happens on Monday.

I couldn't wait until later.

 

 

What. The. f***. Probably one of the best and most realistic stunt weeks they've ever had (especially when you compare it to tornado day only a few years ago :lol:

 

Suzanne dead. Marie dead. James and Ste dead. Jack's fate unknown. Robbie killing Dave. The Abe reveal and Cleo's disappearance. The effects this will have and it's almost such a shame we are jumping one year ahead next week as it would've been fab to see some raw reactions as a result.

I’m not sure Marie is actually dead, I feel like Abe is lying to Cleo maybe. However the synopsis for next week says the Lomaxes are at a grave so I’m not sure who else would be dead for them to go and see. I think Leela is one of the ones who is pregnant from the trailer and maybe they go to see Noah so it’s a nice little emotional thing. I guess they did nothing with Marie to be fair, I really thought with the rumours Diane were leaving thst they were gonna have Marie with Tony in the time jump.

 

There is also a controversial relationship within the Lomaxes as the synopsis say and I can only see it being Peri with someone, maybe it is Marie and Tony and Diane has died quite recently or left and it’s too quick for the kids or something. A lot of people are saying Peri and Abe but surely Abe can’t be around after the time jump.

 

Ste definitely isn’t dead as they confirmed he’s in the time jump so I’m thinking he is the one in a coma that Tony is visiting. James I assume will be. I wish Warren had died as to be honest I can’t be arsed with him inevitably somehow coming back.

I agree, they should have just killed James off of the brain tumour in the time skip, it’s absolutely insane that someone would survive that. I don’t think the fans particularly care about the pairing either from what I’ve seen, so idk why they had to the whole pretend they’ll be fine and then kill James off fake out.

 

But then that’s Hollyoaks, I just think there’s enough going on and I am excited for the time jump and think there’s enough to keep us interested without two stunts coming out of nowhere for the sake of it :lol: unless the explosion somehow kills someone else you wouldn’t expect, maybe Diane. I definitely think there will be like 3 or 4 deaths but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one or two that died during the year we don’t see, like I’m convinced Diane will be gone and I think it’d be good to have kind of a “mystery” thing at first where we don’t know what’s going on and where she is or what’s happened, they’re skirting around it and then it comes out. They could do that with quite a few characters to be fair and I think even that is going to be interesting to see what they do.

 

I’m predicting:

 

- Liberty or Maxine and Jez together, they’ve kind of teased it with Liberty I think it will happen either way sadly, Maxine would be a gross jump the shark moment to be honest

- Diane will be dead, I think with them centring the promo/trailer around Tony it will be something big happening for him personally, a new era for the longest standing character

- I don’t think Marie is actually dead, I could see Abe lying to make Cleo feel bad but then I don’t know what will have happened in the time skip with those two, unless Abe like kidnapped her somewhere and she comes back as we pick up in the time skip, as we saw Sally come back and Cleo was gone. I can’t see Abe still being there, Marie I equally could see just dying if that’s the case as they never did anything with her anyway but I kind of thought they were kind of teasing her and Tony, so if Diane was gone that could be an interesting route

- If Cleo was present for the year we missed, why can I see her and Leela both being pregnant with Joel’s babies, Joel possibly dead of an overdose as a lot of people are speculating he’ll be one of the ones exiting

God the themetune has always been rancid! The modt receny opening credits were the best I suppose, but all sucked. The shor of Chester is far more demure and classy

Fuming at Abe still being there, as great as Nadine is in this storyline it feels like it’s been really dragged out and a time jump was the perfect time to resolve it. I thought maybe he would have kidnapped her and done a runner so they’d both not be there but I cba seeing him still traipsing around and just constantly wondering when he’ll get caught out, especially if he starts doing the same to Peri. As nice as it is to have Peri having a storyline potentially, idk I think it’s just dragged out too much.

 

I’m a bit disappointed at there not being any shock deaths, and also that Diane is still there lowkey. I wonder if it’s Lucas in Young Offenders and what happened, also where Charlie is? I guess he could have gone to uni and moved away and Leah might go and join him if he’s leaving but why would she leave her dad after being in a coma for a year and losing his husband? Imagine waking up from a year long coma to your husband being dead, your daughter having a baby and your son in young offenders :lol:

 

Thrilled at Vicky coming through as a leading lady, she has so much potential and has barely been used thus far.

I actually can’t cope with just how shortened these epidsodes are.

As much as there’s something different and exciting.. at the same time, I feel very much like I did when Brookside was winding down. I give it a couple of years before what feels like the inevitable will happen.

 

As a side note - I hope they now use much more leela. She’s felt like such an underused character for years

Half the episode being Ste waking up was kind of annoying, with shorter episodes and only 3 a week I do worry it’s going to be hard to pace the show. Hopefully this is just tying up the crash cliffhangers and pacing will get better when we’re fully “in” the future without it being tied to what happened a year ago we can focus a bit more on the new relationships and new developments rather than Ste who I’ve never been arsed about. Although extra Leela is always appreciated, they seem to be going all in in making her one of the big matriarchs which I am absolutely here for.

Really feels like this is winding down now. Even that one year later montage felt like a series finale.

Absolutely screaming at Leah pissing off to uni and leaving her dad who’s fresh out of a year long coma with a baby :lol:

 

I’ve got a horrible feeling the baby is Dillon’s, they made a point of the baby’s dark hair and he seemed really overprotective over her when she went into labour. I don’t really care about him and Lucas as a couple but there’s just no need to do that really and if Leah is leaving to go to uni anyway, they didn’t even need it as a plot device for her to go or anything, so it serves no purpose than to add more trouble and misery to a family who have lost James, Lucas is in jail and Ste is fresh out of a coma.

 

I am cautiously optimistic about this new format though, we have to remember Brookside was 20 years ago and it was either you’re on prime time TV or not. Hollyoaks is more youth focused, which fits a streaming first model and the shorter episodes even are easier to digest for this digital focus it’s going for. The show is definitely finding its feet with this new shorter runtime but I think once the remaining exits due to the cuts are done and the last little mysteries and loose ends from the time jump are tied up, it will work better. They’ve kept some strong family units and there’s lots of interesting things for them in store and currently happening to keep the show going.

Ste surviving that CAR EXPLOSION WITHOUT A SCRATCH is high clsss, Eastenders-style camp!!! If you don't want yin blown to bits ... don't put hin in the middle of a bomb?

Michael has a point. Yes it's been a year but to have no scars/burns is farfetched. If you want us to believe that Ste survived without a scratch then the shot of the car completely engulfed in flames shouldn't have been shown. It was a bomb at the end of it all and neither of them would've realistically survived so make Ste's survivable as believable as possible eh? Who am I kidding, it's Hollyoaks they don't care about this stuff :lol:

 

Marie alive! Abe needs to be f***ing gone ASAP. This story is crazy
