It's a shame they didn't do Wembley in 2008 although their 14 consecutive run of o2 shows was pretty iconic in itself.

Maybe schizo_spice meant in summer 2008!

Mentioning Wembley in regards to 2008 does make me wonder whether Victoria might have avoided becoming disillusioned about performing, had they done some stadiums i.e. less dates. Perhaps 47 dates took away some of the appeal for her.

With them selling O2 Arena 17 times, I assume they could have pulled off a few Wembley dates back then. Honestly them originally only announcing 3 O2 arena dates and nothing else for the UK was stupidly overcautious.

But the set and show was made for arenas too it would have been a logistical challenge to change it for a stadium too.

I was thinking that just the other day. They totally should have done more shows in the UK - they all sold out pretty quickly. 17 nights sold out at the 02 is a pretty mean feat! Apart from Prince, no other act has ever topped that right?

Nonetheless, they smashed Wembley every time they have done it and you just know that they could have done a few more last year and probably as well back in 1998 too and a couple in 2008.

Their biggest faux pas when it comes to Wembley is that they never done it as a 5 piece! It wont happen now, ever, but damn as a 5 piece they would probably be able to do a full month there :teresa:

Yes the biggest tours/residencies to come to the 02 arena in terms of the amount of shows are -

Prince - The Earth Tour (21 shows)

Spice Girls - The Return of the Spice Girls Tour (17 shows)

Although he sadly was unable to do the dates due to his death, Michael Jackson sold out 50 dates completely dwarfing Prince and Spice Girls :o

Yeah fair dues, 50 dates is quite a massive number hey? I would say that actually if you make the maths:

17 dates at the 02 back in 2007/2008 = 256,647 tickets sold

50 dates at 02 = 754,844 tickets

They sold 690,000 tickets last year over across 13 dates and there was clearly demand for more - even the bookers last year said so. Maybe they could have pulled off a good 50 dates at the 02 too :teresa: :cheer: The way that the 17 dates sold out over like 2 days as well, as well as the tour last year mostly sold out too over that one weekend (not counting with Cardiff and Dublin which also sold out later) seems to indicate that too!

I put this together today and it seems our girls are the ONLY British act to have sold out as many shows with one tour

‪Biggest concert residencies at London’s 02 Arena‬

‪Prince - The Earth Tour (21 shows)‬

‪Spice Girls - TROTSG (17 shows)‬

‪Bon Jovi - Circle Tour (12 shows)‬

‪Beyoncé - The Mrs. Carter Show (12 shows) ‬

What a list! From contemporary pop acts, only Take That seems to have the strenght in recent years to top that success (they sold out Wembley 8 nights on the same tour after 8 nights in Manchester and multiple across the country). I bet if it was the 5of them, they could top TT's Progress Tour I think :yahoo:

Take That would have appeared on this list but most of their tours since 2007 at the 02 Arena has ranged from 6-9 shows.

Looking back I think it’s absolutely amazing that the girls sold out 17 nights and they could have easily have done more 👏

That tour was massive, their biggest ever. If you look at their wiki page, it stated that over 1.8 million people attended and it grossed over £180,000million just in the UK leg of 29 dates in stadiums across the UK

That isnt even counting the dates in Europe (6 dates in Stadiums in North Europe and one in Italy)...

IMAGINE! It's seen as one of the most successful tours ever in Europe I think.

Now imagine what the Spice Girls could do if they had carried on last year into the Summer and to other territories as well... I think with Victoria they could easily match it, and most probably top Take That's tour ;)

I really hope they carry on touring. Not so that I can attend, but just because the rest of the world deserves it.

As Sammy mentioned in another thread, the first date of this tour was 2 years ago today :o

Omg  I can't believe it has been two years already, SUCH exciting time to be a fan.

Because the lockdown has been on and off for over a year and the fact that 2020 weirdly went really fast it feels longer than 2 years. Take me back
