9. Bazzi - Mine

It's just so replayable. I didn't understand where or how this song took off & on paper it shouldn't have been my thing at all. However the unusual relative shortness of the song actually added to its appeal, and THAT hook is so damn melodic! I didn't think much of the follow-up hit 'Beautiful' at all so methinks this is just a diamond in the rough.

8. ZieZie - Fine Girl

LOVE this song so much, it probably should be higher (but I made the chart a month ago & I'm not rearranging anything now). One of the very best tracks at capturing the essence of the ridiculously hot but otherwise feelgood Summer of '18. Some rather unusual lyrics in this but it's the absolute definition of an earworm that I couldn't stop replaying.

7. The Chainsmokers - Sick Boy

Now this sure was a surprise! I really felt 'Roses' would forever remain their one true gem but now it has a challenger. I'm a big fan in particular of the harsh, dramatic-sounding production & for once, Taggart's vocals, which complement the sound very well (although I did eventually grow fond of his efforts in 'Closer'). For sure, a song of theirs I'll be revisiting frequently in the future.

After hearing some of Chainsmokers' new songs like Sick Boy and Somebody, I'm gradually starting to get used to their vocals (mainly Taggart's); I wasn't so keen on them last year.

Mine and Fine Girl are okay.

Barking and Fine Girl are both fun tunes, and amongst the few rap songs to make my Y/E Hot 100! Shame Barking had to be held off by Eminem's disappointing River.

Hey Dobbo!

Have to catch up on your countdown, since I couldn't do it before because of my sickness.

Really like "God's Plan", "High Hopes", "Barking", "Mine" and "Sick Boy"!

Great countdown so far!

Likewise, they're better equipped at the more aggressive style of sound they go for sometimes - on a laidback song such as 'Paris' I thought his singing was terrible on that.

I had forgotten Barking had also been denied by River as well as God's Plan. Even more reason to dislike it!

No problem! Glad you're still finding many tracks you like.

6. Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises

Still not tired on me one bit this. Interestingly it did the opposite to 'One Kiss' in that I wasn't keen at first but now as you can see it grew into one of my faves of the whole year. 'One Kiss' meanwhile doesn't even make this chart. There is just such a smooth, effortless vibe to the song and it's among the best vocals Sam has ever put out. It very narrowly misses out on being my favourite official #1 of the year.

great to see 'Promises' nice and high here! won't be quite as high in mine due to my points system more than anything, though I did prefer 'One Kiss' by some way (which could potentially be my EOY #1). another brilliant Calvin tune.
Not ashamed to say I really quite like Freaky Friday, it's plenty of fun! Sick Boy really surprised me, Drew's vocals sound the best they ever have and it's comfortably my favourite Chainsmokers track this year.

Barking is ok but has been so forgettable for me.

Great to see Fine Girl here. That and Ay Caramba really soundtracked my holiday to Spain this year.

I was surprised One Kiss beat God's Plan to the official #1 of the year but looking at the full list it's hardly looks an accurate representation

Yeah I can't even name any of their other singles this year off hand! More like this one in the future hopefully.

I've only recently got into Ay Caramba! Very late to the party on that one.

5. Dave (feat. Fredo) - Funky Friday

Much like the last song, this was a true grower! I didn't think much of it to start with but there was definitely something memorable about the production. A few weeks later & I was nigh-on rapping the full song. Ultimately, it ends up being my favourite official #1 of the year narrowly ahead of 'Promises' which was kind enough to relinquish the top spot for that one week. This is also the highest non-dance song in the countdown. 1-6, GAME!

4. M-22 (feat. Medina) - First Time

In a year sparse of big commercial dance hits the odd few were always going to stand out for any reason. Thankfully, we were blessed with a song as fantastic as this. Improbably scaling the heights for a relatively unheard of dance act, it was always a pleasure hearing this every week on the Chart Show. The vocals are what really sets this apart from songs of its ilk, bang on the money.

Well I think I know what the order is based on your dance awards votes! :P

Funky Friday and First Time are both great anyhow, though they missed my Y/E Hot 100. The former was so good for its genre, a real game changer for Dave too who I expect will have a big 2019. Was great seeing First Time become a big surprise hit too.

Promises really grabbed me on first listen which is really rare for a modern Calvin track! First Time was nice enough but not something I go back to often sadly.
Funky Friday definitely did grow on me! Was very surprised when it went to number one and wasn't too impressed but I really like it now!
Great to see Funky Friday so high here. Certainly one of the chart moments of the year when that made #1.
