Quite like 'Paradise', though it wasn't quite memorable enough to make my weekly chart it's better than most of what Nicky Romero does these days.

Glad you liked it, I need to keep my ears open for more Nicky this year!

Eurovision slaying!

Yes it is!

Hello Pete!

The comeback of another nostalgic Brit-indie outfit, this didn't really do much for me initially but it really blew up for me in the new year. Yes, the video is a bit (well, a lot) creepy but the chorus is incredibly catchy and I love the notion of bringing a lemon to a knife fight. I wholeheartedly prefer this to the much more acclaimed Cheetah Tongue, and whilst not as good as Turn it's still one of the songs of the year and certainly one I'll go back to.

Another funky bop from Lost Frequencies, he's still not lived up to the amazingness of Reality (how many times can I fit that song into my EOY? :P ) but it's a good shot. Here he is with The NGHBRS, who I've never heard of and will probably never hear of again, but they add decent vocals to this. It's not an in-your-face type of track and it took a while for me to actually remember how the chorus went but I knew I liked it and that's all that mattered. Nice touring music video as well.

Tropical house really did go downhill quickly didn't it. The first #1 of the new year, at the time it sort of felt like a non-#1 hence the ridiculously quick drop out of the charts but now I can see that this isn't the case. This is classic SeeB, the beats sounding amazing as usual and Skip's vocals work perfectly on it. This may possibly be the last time we saw decent SeeB though and I can now quite easily talk about the HORROR that is Grip ft. Bastille. I mean the song isn't horrendous but it's definitely not the artist I know on the track, and it's just an example of another once-decent artist tuning in to the horrendous future bass trend that is just nothing-y. Bye Bye SeeB until you release something different.

This replaced SeeB at the top and even spent two weeks there but when I think about my #1s this year I very often forget it even existed. It's a decent dance piece but due to it being instant I can't really see many memorable features present now. Since this Gromee released a Eurovision flop and seemingly went back into his hidey-hole for the rest of the year (although apparently he released a new song 4 months ago so I should probably check that out). Also as a side note, what was that chart run? Did my first taste of alcohol really ruin my senses that much?

Lemon To A Knife Fight is a great song. Love the irony established in the title, since bringing a lemon would most likely result in failing miserably.

This year, I managed to get a copy of Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life from my local Oxfam for just £3.99

Who has the ginger? I have no idea who does, or what the ginger is, and let's face it I probably don't want to know. What I do know is that this song was at #1 the week I released my video Top 100 (and probably the last one as YouTube continues to convince me that it's not a good thing by blocking every YouTube downloader in the UK.) This is another banger from the dynamic duo, and makes me wonder even more how a 40 year-old English DJ and a clearly much younger Nigerian solo singer came to be such good friends. (apparently they met in an American bar, which makes the story even more weird.) Anyway, it's another one to add to their almost-identical chart histories. And let's be honest - Fasta has as much of Riton on as all the others, regardless of whether he is credited.

Next up we have everyone's favourite slightly-quirky-world-music-influenced-nursery rhyme, featuring Kiesza (famous for Hideaway) and Chris Malinchak (famous for a song I've completely forgotten). Of course it's weird but that's what I love about it - it's a song that very easily gets stuck in your head and that you can really enjoy. I expected both of them to add a Christmas song to their chart history this winter, but they deleted the song I was hoping to hear and replaced it with a song which sounded pretty dull and had a euphemism as a title which is a real no-no for Pete.

The first of two Belle and Sebastian tracks to grace the Top 100, and yet another example of a song peaking low but spending absolutely ages in the Top 100. This funky piece didn't do much for me initially, but its main line 'poor boy, I could never live up to your imagination' was just so grabbing, it was always in my head and was a favourite from just after Easter, all the way through the Summer holidays and beyond. I really recommend you give this one a listen!

Well writing up Sigala's chart history took longer than expected. That's probably because he released a lot of songs in the period in which it was easier to get a Top 10 in my chart than it was for me to send a Facebook message. The new format has clearly taken its toll though, as this is the only song from him to make the EOY Top 100 this year (whilst Feels Like Home has the same peak I grew tired of it almost immediately and I think it spent about 5 weeks Top 40). I remember deliberately keeping this off the top spot in favour of Owl City's Lucid Dreams as I knew airplay would make me sick of it and I didn't want another These Days scenario. As it was I did grow tired of it hence the very quick drop-off but a lengthy Top 10 run gave it this high position!

a lot of ACR esque drops in those runs!

loving Lullaby (this will be even higher in my EOY) and Mother from that section, Ginger is great too (one of their best).

(I can send you the deleted Malinkiesza Xmas song if you want, though it's probably a bit late for that now!)

Don't recall that Gromee song, I quite liked 'Light Me Up' but moreso for being a rare dance entry to Eurovision, I wasn't too keen on it after Eurovision ended (and I see you weren't that keen on it either).

Seeb and Lost Frequencies have lost their spark for me, shame but tropical house has really got stale and whatever they're doing now isn't that great for me.

Wow @ The Wombats still making music, there's a throwback indeed.

Cruel World was quite good for its genre, I like Marley's vocals in it.

Ginger is a banger :music: much prefer that to Fake ID which whilst also good is a bit much with the weird production.

Mother was absolutely terrible though, WHAT on earth was that sample?!

Lullaby is a really good track once again from Sigala!

Absolutely adore Lullaby, my favourite Sigala song to date! Paloma's voice really elevates the track for me.
Haven't known or liked much so far oops, sorry for the lack of comments compared to you on mine :kink: Lullaby is a bop though, I wasn't sure Paloma would fit a Sigala song but I'd like to hear more from her like that actually!

Yeah, the start of the year was maybe a little... too accurate in terms of drops. I've softened it out a bit now even if it means songs stick around for a bit longer than I like them for sometimes. I'm going to hope that the Malinkiesza track will be saved until next Christmas and I can listen then! SeeB and Lost Frequencies for me are some of the few tropical house artists that can still release a good song, it's all the artists that are moving to horrendous future bass that turns me off. Without You was before Light Me Up and personally I thought it might have done better than it at Eurovision! Thanks Dan :D

So here's our offering from Klingande which *did* make the Top 100, and it's just outside the Top 50, and it's a collaboration with French singer Broken Back, who is interestingly enough named due to a vertebral displacement he has. Whilst the start of this song sounds a bit like an introduction to Madagascar, it goes on to be a really smooth song with a great melody and vocals. The drop from 4-11 is down to the Christmas influx, and only one Christmas song left the top 10 this week explaining why it hasn't climbed back in, although it's unlikely now with the New Year tracks.

As well as Boy Azooga (who we've already heard from) and Only Sun (who we're yet to see), this episode of Unknown Pleasures also delivered this beauty. It's a really powerful song and tackles something that is a very big issue nowadays - because of course, boys do cry (especially us ones on the autism spectrum). Whilst I was certain this lot were American, I was surprised to find out that this was in fact a British band :o But upon further research, I did find out that the lead singer was American. He looks a bit like a fish on that thumbnail as well.

And we land at yet ANOTHER Niceland BJSC bop. Before I begin, I must make it clear that I do NOT agree with the music video and that demons cannot be forced out of people by getting a Canadian band to sing in front of them them. Nor do they look like an ugly moving black liquid-y thing. Disclaimer over, this is an incredibly catchy indie piece which was not only an instant hit but also had an earworm-y chorus that was in my head for months. Hence I've bumped it into a prestigious Top 50 spot. Oh, and they had a more popular song with Sarah Jeffery later in the year but it was bland so let's ignore it.
