Three number ones in a row! Vera Blue's Regular Touch debuted atop the chart following it's appearance in Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2017 and would later be entered into BJSC. The song fell quickly out of my chart oops. She would later go on to claim a minor hit in All The Pretty Girls in early 2019, and score a second #1 with Flume on Rushing Back!

These 4 songs scream 2018 to me. From Justin Timberlakes' massive comeback album with it's pro's and con's to Panic! At The Disco finally earning themselves a long-awaited commercial hit, to a totally bizarre collaboration that just worked incredibly giving both Marshmello and Bastille more #1 singles on my chart, to finally one of my all-time favourite artists returning after a 4-ish year album break with some absolutely amazing music (and a podcast). Three of these songs come from artists who had multi-week #1 albums over the course of the year and Bastille have recently held the streak themselves with their 2019 album soaring to the top of my album chart.

I would also like to take this opportunity to mention the likes of Ariana Grande, Khalid, and Jon Bellion who equally had an incredible year on my chart. Jon Bellion held the entire Top 10 at one stage along with 3 back-to-back #1 singles, and Ariana Grande returned to full form after the Manchester Attack with No Tears Left To Cry followed by one (then another) fantastic album. Khalid holds the record for most weeks spent consecutively on my weekly chart - god only knows how many weeks exactly but I can confirm he has been present on my chart either through his own singles or features since way before Benny Blanco's Eastside was even released! Dean Lewis had his breakthrough worldwide hit in 2018 as Be Alright not only slayed the Australian charts spending what many people say was way too long at #1, but also made waves through Europe and in the US.

Oh my LORD I've never flopped doing something so much in my life. 2018 ended 16 months ago yet my EOY is still going on. Here we have Marshmello and Bastille teaming up for the BEST collaboration of 2018. Bastille are one of the most versatile bands out there and this song further proved that. This became Bastille's third #1 here after I Know You and Quarter Past Midnight, and it was also Marshmello's third following Silence and Friends. Unlike Marshmello, though, who hasn't had a #1 single since then, Bastille have had a string of #2 hits as well as two #1s in Bad Decisions and Another Place. Happier was such an uplifting-sounding song that really wasn't uplifting at all if you took note of the lyrics. That's something that Bastille have always had a knack of doing with their songs really, they can make the saddest lyrics sound positive and hopeful. The music video is pretty sad too with a dying dog and subtext that kinda makes you feel bad for domesticated dogs... featuring Miranda Cosgrove

And here we have it! Coming in at #2 in my Top 200 of 2018 is Justin Timberlake's huge comeback single Filthy! Fuelled by lots and lots of hype this debuted at #1 here and spent five non-consecutive weeks at the top of the chart. This wasn't everyones cup of tea when it was released - after promoting a "country sound" for his new album no one expected a single straight out of FutureSex/LoveSounds even produced by Timbaland but then here Filthy was and no one knew how to react! I was initially stumped and completely blindsided by the release but quickly the song grew on me and subsequently ended up at #1 the very week it came out. In reflection I don't know if I would rank this song this high. I loved it then and still love it now but I admit of all the songs on the album this is definitely NOT one I come back to much. Say Something likely should have been a #1 and at least in my Top 20 on the year considering how much I still play it to day. With that said, I do love this song and it was without a doubt my most played song of January/February 2018. The album itself was very underrated and this song deserves to be here if just to promote Man Of The Woods. I thoroughly enjoyed his departure in sound from Pop. He could have easily released another Can't Stop The Feeling or Mirrors and had an easy hit for an album of easy pop songs but instead he branch(:kink:)ed out and gave us Man Of The Woods. I am eagerly excited for whatever he brings next which I imagine will be in the pipeline for release after Trolls 2 is done with!

Finally we have the man of the year! George Ezra, yes the same George Ezra who released Budapest now 6 years ago, returned to the spotlight in 2018 with his latest album Staying At Tamara's preceeded by my favourite song of 2018 Paradise! It's honestly such a great song. Like, I don't have to tell anyone how great this song is. It's uplifting, it brings a smile to your face, it's a song that makes you want to jump up and shout along to the lyrics every single time it comes on. When this made it to #2 in the UK I was overjoyed, yes a #1 would've been better but it was obvious from the beginning of the week that he was unlikely to pull ahead of These Days and honestly this has held up better anyway  Staying At Tamara's stayed in my album chart for well over a year; Shotgun reached #1 in Winter; Hold My Girl spent three weeks at #1 over Christmas - George Ezra literally owned 2018 on my chart. I am shocked at how there is only a 1 point difference between this and Filthy when this is outright the better song that I will still be obsessed with in 20 years time. This will be one of those songs I play for my kids or grandkids when they ask me "grandad, what is your favourite song". I have nothing else to say other than: if you don't like this song, change your mind or get out x

AND IT'S OVER! I can't believe this took me so long. It's not even high quality or anything I literally just kept forgetting about it/more important things came up. I've known these results since probably October 2018 realistically so I'm glad I've finally been able to publish them here! I was using a third party website ran by a Buzzjack member to consolidate my charts and come up with the EOY as seen here however I got super behind (and don't even know if he's still around/active with the website) and I think the last chart on there is from March 2019 or something. Which mean I don't have data for a 2019 EOY - if I do decide to do one it will likely be made up data and I'll just order the songs myself. Which tbh might work out better, who knows.
