Might as well just post the Spotify Christmas playlist in the order they play them :lol: The idea that people are choosing to stream xmas oldies that never charted when they came out and obscurities like Feliz Navidad are suddenly top of teenagers streaming choices is just confirmation that the chart is made up by passive playlist streaming nowadays, but especially so at christmas. On the chart facts side: The big 3 1973 xmas hits are now reversed, Elton is top 10, having taken 45 years to peak at last, and just ahead of Wizzard and Slade, which my brother and I bought at the time to help them peak at 4 and 1 respectively. I bought Wizzard, gatefold fold-out christmas sleeve on vinyl and it cost the equivalent of at least £5 in today's money.  Chris Rea hits a new peak. Lots of Phil Spector tracks chart 55 years on, and White Christmas extends it's chart run (had there been charts back then) to 76 years and takes the record from The Wizard Of Oz Wicked Witch track as oldest record to chart (in total years, though not the earliest recording, there are a few from the 30's that have charted). Odds on Mariah Carey topping the chart next year at last must be getting shorter as streaming gets even bigger. Leona Lewis is the main genuine recent xmas classic of a new song - Buble is oldies, and Ariana is big at the mo, in contrast with Justin Bieber not being much of a thing this year. Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton charts belatedly hooray! Great track. The Jackson 5 finally make the top 40 46 years after peaking at 43, and are joined by the xmas record that spearheaded the rebirth of the xmas pop genre that year, John & Yoko. That record topped my chart xmas of 1972 and is the most-charted record in my personal charts in terms of calendar years charted, starting with 1972 through 1975, 1980 and onwards. Meanwhile former 70's xmas faves from Boney M and Mud make the top 40 for the first time since they presided over the UK charts for my 21st birthday and 17th birthday respectively. I would love to have someone asking me if all my christmas faves would be charting in the far futuristic world of 2018 with this thing called the internet and streaming as I hit 21 at Uni. Nobody had predicted any such thing would exist, not the impact it would have on the planet (I would have said it sounded like science fiction!) Â
December 29, 20187 yr Author Ideally the OCC should be able to differentiate between 'passive streams' from curated Christmas playlists (which no doubt make up a large chunk of streaming points for Christmas songs) and active streams and give separate ratios to both, and then remove the 3 year old rule. I love how the Christmas songs come back in the chart every year however, so I hope the OCC don't simply decide to remove them entirely or put them on a silly low ratio. I imagine this is something the OCC cannot do at the moment, hence the arbitrary rules designed to kick Christmas songs down, but as more people replace radio with streaming playlists we may as well have included airplay in the chart (hell, they may even add actual airplay to hinder the chart positions of le evil urban music), so hopefully some method of differentiation can happen soon. The Katy Perry track doing so well is no doubt due to Amazon shoving it in the face of everyone who asks Alexa to play Christmas music for example and god knows how that John Williams song went top 75 (especially when Carol of the Bells did so much better on Spotify and is surely the more recognisable song?). It is annoying that Mariah has been denied #1 this way anyhow, but I imagine she had a lot of passive streams, so perhaps she'd be denied #1 based on a system favouring active streams. As for Sia, I imagine her track will only grow in popularity over time (as it has done this year), so she should be able to make the top 75 at least when she falls to ACR (unless the OCC mess around with the 3 year old songs ratio further which I think is rather likely unfortunately).

December 29, 20187 yr Are there any non-Xmas hits that would otherwise be climbing this week which have unfortunately hit ACR just at the wrong time so will instead be falling? I know this most recent chart people have said everything will be back to normal next week - but NOT if this last week was the final chance for a song to avoid ACR!
December 29, 20187 yr Author I'm not sure what's going to ACR next week but we could potentially see Without Me, Ruin My Life and Close To Me all do it (and a few others). And rather unfortunately Billie Eilish went to ACR this week which caused her 39-OUT run (she'll be back next week of course but probably not in the top 40).

Might as well just post the Spotify Christmas playlist in the order they play them :lol: The idea that people are choosing to stream xmas oldies that never charted when they came out and obscurities like Feliz Navidad are suddenly top of teenagers streaming choices is just confirmation that the chart is made up by passive playlist streaming nowadays, but especially so at christmas. On the chart facts side: The big 3 1973 xmas hits are now reversed, Elton is top 10, having taken 45 years to peak at last, and just ahead of Wizzard and Slade, which my brother and I bought at the time to help them peak at 4 and 1 respectively. I bought Wizzard, gatefold fold-out christmas sleeve on vinyl and it cost the equivalent of at least £5 in today's money.  Chris Rea hits a new peak. Lots of Phil Spector tracks chart 55 years on, and White Christmas extends it's chart run (had there been charts back then) to 76 years and takes the record from The Wizard Of Oz Wicked Witch track as oldest record to chart (in total years, though not the earliest recording, there are a few from the 30's that have charted). Odds on Mariah Carey topping the chart next year at last must be getting shorter as streaming gets even bigger. Leona Lewis is the main genuine recent xmas classic of a new song - Buble is oldies, and Ariana is big at the mo, in contrast with Justin Bieber not being much of a thing this year. Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton charts belatedly hooray! Great track. The Jackson 5 finally make the top 40 46 years after peaking at 43, and are joined by the xmas record that spearheaded the rebirth of the xmas pop genre that year, John & Yoko. That record topped my chart xmas of 1972 and is the most-charted record in my personal charts in terms of calendar years charted, starting with 1972 through 1975, 1980 and onwards. Meanwhile former 70's xmas faves from Boney M and Mud make the top 40 for the first time since they presided over the UK charts for my 21st birthday and 17th birthday respectively. I would love to have someone asking me if all my christmas faves would be charting in the far futuristic world of 2018 with this thing called the internet and streaming as I hit 21 at Uni. Nobody had predicted any such thing would exist, not the impact it would have on the planet (I would have said it sounded like science fiction!) I would say that Wizzard vinyl would cost a bit now!
