If you drop sales for 3 weeks in a row and are within the 10 week period are they still moved into ACR just to clarify?

Close To Me is 100% on ACR, but I think Ruin My Life has escaped it.

@Popchartfreak, it should be noted that 'Feliz Navidad' is actually in the top 40 on sales (one of only a small handful of Christmas songs there) for some reason so it can't be that much of an obscurity.

I see cheers - so basically you can be up and down on sales as long as it's not lost the 10th week!

I feel like this week we may get the rare occurrence of songs climbing up the charts the week they hit ACR, something that I think has only happened with Mi Gente before? (and Three Lions but that was more of a technicality as the rules changed that week)

I think any song that was a holiday freeze casualty would have either gained in spots or at least re-peaked without the Xmas songs. Unfortunately this means the OCC have the grounds to change the rules regarding the old Xmas songs again due to there being more casualties than usual (1999, Polaroid, When The Party’s Over, Without Me even though that peaked already, Ruin My Life possibly, Close To Me).

They'll just readjust the ratios I think! They preferably want 5-6 Xmas songs and that's it!

Gotta be all or nothing for me. Or else they'll just choose the same songs that are eligible to chart every year...

Yeh well most likely the songs most popular/near the top of playlists but I don't think they should all be banned especially if they are hugely popular throughout 2/3 weeks in December.

Thanks Bre, yes just noticed that - I can only put it down to the numbers of Spanish-speaking people living in the UK (I hear it often when I'm in Spain pre-christmas) or people like me hearing it in Spain or the USA, cos trust me it was utterly unknown until the last few years in the UK - like never played on the radio or any UK charts or any TV, movies etc - but his version of Light My Fire was quite well known as a top 10 UK hit! I think he's worked with Jules Holland which may have helped too in recent years.....

 

 

Well I think they are working on getting a "playlist ratio" of sorts, someone said in another thread, so passive listens of curated playlists won't count as heavily towards the chart.

 

Of course, that wouldn't just affect Christmas songs but also the Hot Hits UK effect.

 

I don't think that would reduce the impact of Christmas songs in the chart enough for the OCC's liking so I imagine when they release the "playlist ratio" rules they'll also come up with a new lower ratio for old songs.

 

I don't think the OCC wish to remove Christmas songs entirely otherwise they would have done it already, but they definitely made the new rules in response to last year's Christmas chart, and this year we've had even more Christmas songs in the chart despite their new rules.

 

As for 'Feliz Navidad' I think that's definitely got a fair bit more popular here, it's not just the Spotify playlists (though they have helped get it more known), I heard it on Radio 2 this month and it wouldn't have been on R2 say 5 years ago.

I would say that Wizzard vinyl would cost a bit now!

 

Ooh yes, it would be at least a tenner as a new pressing! It cost 50p which doesnt sound much but that's what I got paid for an evening of babysitting duties (RAF camp, lots of kids in lots of young families, and I was very reliable and sensible :lol: )

 

That was about 15 bags of crisps, 10 American comics, a couple of trips to an RAF cinema, or a bus ticket to Gloucester including entry fee to see Blazing Saddles or Jesus Christ Superstar.

TBH I’d rather just have them readjust the ratios rather than not have any Xmas songs at all. The 6 or so classics are pretty much holiday chart staples and it will give some other priority to more recent holiday songs that would have been swept under the rug otherwise. There’s potential for another One More Sleep/Santa Tell Me magnitude holiday classic within the large pool of holiday songs from the past two years.
