Posted December 29, 20186 yr Well basically should Airplay be included towards counting the chart, do you think this is the best way forward or killing it. I just thought I put this up for discussion. Personally the answer is no as it will become like a billboard chart and even slower and I probably lose faith in the charts altogether. The best way is probably to cap playlists it might just even out and less Xmas tracks will appear in the chart around December.
December 29, 20186 yr Well if you want to make the chart even slower and more manipulated than it already is, go for it!
December 29, 20186 yr Hell to the no. The OCC will kill any remaining credibility they have left if they ever include airplay.
December 29, 20186 yr I kind of feel like with how Spotify works, we're pretty much there with doing that anyway. I think now YouTube is included, I'm past caring what else they throw into the mix.
December 29, 20186 yr wouldn't that help Mariah and Xmas songs in general, which get huge airplay? I think thats the last thing the occ would want, more Xmas songs the chart/Mariah at #1
December 29, 20186 yr This would be an absolutely atrocious idea, I really hope the OCC never go down this route as it's far from being a true method of consumption. Say what you like about Spotify playlists, but listeners choose their playlist and have skip options where necessary. Still way more choice than radio offers. The last thing we need is something like Capital actively contributing to the chart when a hits station won't go near songs like Shotgun or Paradise with a barge pole.
December 29, 20186 yr They may have skip options, but I bet most don't skip within 30 seconds before it counts as a stream. I've actually given songs 'streams' this way when I've been preoccupied with other tasks.
December 29, 20186 yr What I absolutely love about the Official Chart compared to others is that it's entirely down to the public! This sometimes allows us to get tracks that radio stations wouldn't want to play into the chart and thus making them play it (although since it stopped being a show that played the full top 40 that's slightly less exciting), rather than giving them another excuse to play the ones they already inflict on listeners too much! If they include airplay I'll stop caring, it's the worst move they could possibly make.
December 29, 20186 yr Yes airplays addition would put control even further into the hands of the radio playlisters!!
December 29, 20186 yr It already feels like an airplay chart. I wouldn’t normally be for it but my interest in this already artificial chart has almost completely fizzled out.
December 29, 20186 yr I kind of feel like with how Spotify works, we're pretty much there with doing that anyway. I think now YouTube is included, I'm past caring what else they throw into the mix. This is how I feel about it too. The way most people use streaming services to just listen to curated playlists doesn't feel very far removed from radio airplay to me, we're already past the point where it's a reflection of what people are buying/choosing.
