I just like how you quoted and replied to yourself in the same post

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a teenage chart more that it’s a lazy persons chart, in which just click Spotify and play most played, rather than taking the effort to go find and discover new music, we just play what’s their

What are you talking about?

Is this because Westlife aren't really relevant anymore in the singles chart? Their single would have charted even lower if it weren't for the OCC's newest rules.

Please justify why they would chart lower... Although i doubt there is a justification...

And yes the new Ariana #1 is a shame...

Because less people are listening to them. If Ava Max is getting 400,000 plays a day and Westlife are getting 80,000, why should Westlife be ranked higher in the chart?

I'm guessing it's because there are songs higher up the Spotify chart that are on ACR, so they are actually getting marked down (penalised) for having been out longer.

If that rule wasn't there, they would all be ahead of Westlife.

I get that it is lazy in most people choose a playlist now rather than hunt for specific artists, but this is no different to people tuning into a radio station they like and relying on them to introduce music. Very few actively seek out music themselves. The big difference is people no longer have to make a conscious decision to invest money into a single/album where they can now just get everything for free

Which is because not as many people have been watching, listening to and buying Westlife's song. Overall, Westlife just haven't been as popular as other songs, regardless of how well they did on one specific platform.

OCC turned UK charts into a teenage chart... Anyone enjoys it this way?

There are a lot of things in your article that are only half true and also shows that you haven't really understood how the UK singles chart work and what the UK singles chart is.

It is not a teenage chart and also not an adult chart or fan chart or a chart with the most popular songs. It is a consumption chart after all, you like it or not. The UK singles chart just shows what the UK people consume from the music market. IT was once a sales chart but in our times consumption is not just buying something, but also streaming. The sales of songs in the UK are dramatically falling and more and more are replaced by streaming. I personally don't want to see a chart that has a number 1 with less than 10.000 copies and that's the point the UK singles chart reached already a year ago.

5-6 years ago weekly 2-1million songs were bought on the online shops and music stores. The last year we haven't seen a week (if I remember well) with more than 1 million sales, but rather less than 900.000 sales. So in my opinion the OCC reacted in time and well to the new consumptions habits of the customers.

On the other side the customers of the non classical music market came mostly from the younger audience, that hasn't changed much today either. So that the UK chart is a teenage chart is not a valid argument. :)

When Spice Girls were number one, their singles were mainly bought by adults for themselves. I miss those times :/

Were they? Their fans were teenagers at the time surely?

who was buying Kylie and Jason back in the day? :D

I thought your blog came just out of bitterness instead of research, which is what not should have been, you really haven't had any interest in the charts in the last 109 years and it shows that you really cannot grasp how it goes

the charts have always been dynamic, formats change, streaming has not been the first big change, actually the change from CD singles to downloads changed the charts completely and many artists fort example big fan fase acts like Manic Street Preachers that had no trouble having hit after hits thanks to loyal fans buying CD singles, stopped having hits like before in the downloads era. Rock and indie suffered the most probably.

And same now with streams. But these are changes that need to be made. You criticise but don't offer a solution, what do you want? revert to sales only? You know how many downloads are sold every day? The #1 does 1-2K max nowadays, with the song at #100 selling 10 copies a day. Do you want a chart based on that? a chart where 10 people buy a song and it charts...

Please justify why they would chart lower... Although i doubt there is a justification...

?

You have to stop blaming the charts. Westlife are an old, extinct act when it comes to the singles chart, it's nothing to do with "OCC tampering to make a teenage chart". They've done way better than pretty much anyone would have expected (apart from you, it seems).

And I just looked at the official untampered top 200 without ACR and Westlife would have charted 10 places lower at #23 so you should be thankful for the new chart rules.

Update to come in a few hours but Sub Focus has cracked the top 200! :cheer:

We also have yet another new xxxtentacion song which is just outside top 100

Mabel up to 14 should please a few and Calvin is now top five!

When Spice Girls were number one, their singles were mainly bought by adults for themselves. I miss those times :/

i'd have said it was mainly kids...?

Big difference is radio didnt dictate the chart you still had to actively find the music for it to contribute to the charts, in the case of major playlist these do dictate the charts with the odd exception
