52. Claire Richards - Shame on You

Is this the highest Claire has achieved with any singles from the album?

I'm pretty sure 'On My Own' was on the cusp of the top 20?

I don't feel like RNB man is as big a name as Dua Lipa or Sam Smith, so I'm not so sure.

Imo Calvin himself is as big as the features on his records now so he is the pull and the 2 releases last year got to no1 because the songs were great too!

I think the general consensus was at the time Dua Lipa featuring on his song was a big deal and that her name had more clout than his, which helped restore him to the heights he was at previously.

(What I mean is, before that came along people spoke about him as if he'd passed his peak commercially and his name didn't have the same power behind it as it used to)

Calvin's a big name but he's never guaranteed hits - look at Nuh Ready Nuh Ready just a year ago :') it's generally the star power of both his name and a big name feature that sees him getting such hype. Of course, the quality of One Kiss and Promises helped them in the long term though.
to me, thats selling nothing specially when you consider the R1 support they get

but R1 always does the same, if you're a talented artist like Lana del Rey or Lorde, they'll playlist you for 5 minutes then drop you cos you're too old

while idiotic bands making idiotic music like BMTH or The 1975 keep being supported for eternity and beyond, they should apply higher standards or at least use the same standards for everybody

I love how you weren't criticising Weiss' "Feel My Needs" for not becoming a hit after heavy radio support but just because you hate BMTH they're a completely different story ~

Tell me how The 1975 are "idiotic" compared to Lana? I'm sure if they got 6Music rotation or had the same fanbase as your favourites you'd have a different opinion. You've said some ignorant things about artists in the past, but this takes it for me. Unbelievable.

Yeh true I def think the song is everything for those types of artist!

What happened to this threat today lol I felt people were on the wind up comparing BMTH and Fleur lol, I mean BMTH are a metal band and will likely challenge for he no1 album when it comes out. They have their own fanbase and radio 1 take in other things than sales and chart position into consideration when playlisting bands like that. Capital are the chart based station whereas radio 1 consider boosting British bands (as was said above), they consider the sales & chart position, fans ticket sales, the genre - as they have to have a decent variety of genres/bands/groups/genders and they consider whether other BBC stations are supporting them.

As for Lorde as someone said above was insta added and one of their most played tracks of the year it was released.

It probably all boils down to The 1975 having yOunG fans that succumb to the evil wrath of Payola!1! How dare they not listen to similarly MOR and accessible music eh >:(

We’ve had a billion songs within the last year that sounded like Nuh Ready Nuh Ready. That was just a victim of oversaturation. Sure the hype helped the most recent two releases (which explains why Faking It never gained any traction) but still.
Calvin Harris is the same as Rihanna, the general public are open to them if the song is what they want. What I mean is the GP will check out a song by them if it's good it will smash if not they will leave it and look out for their next song.

I really like Fleur's new song! I hope it can become a hit for her. Glad to see her manage #3 on iTunes - was expecting it to barely scratch the top 20.

Kinda loving "Play". Wasn't too keen at first but after a few listens I'm hooked. I hope it'll be a big hit!

So next Friday is - Calvin big Collaboration, Sam Smith Duet, and Westlife comeback single. Hello 2019!
Westlife comeback single. Hello 2019!

Personally I really can't see it doing that well. Most comeback singles tend to sink like hell

Why do I get the feeling new Westlife will do just as well as the Steps singles?

There's also a new Dua Lipa track from a movie out in 2 weeks.

I like Westlife, but I feel like there's no hype for their comeback. They should've performed on The X Factor final or held it until BGT, it would've been amazing.

A Graham Norton performance won't do any harm for it on the day of release tbf but it'll do nothing on streaming so it'll chart at no37 if it does well on itunes!
Without sounding rude, it feels like they passed their sell by date, in the day they had masses of fans I can't see them coming back in droves, I probably have to eat humble pie after posting this :(
