Mr X you have hit the nail on the head. Emma has never built a live audience. She really should do a ton of festivals and gay pride events to build up her fanbase. Releasing a solid best of compilation would probably do well if she built up her live audience first.

I'll always be so confused by her attempts at becoming associated with Christmas, without doing the one thing that could help make that happen, a Christmas album! As you say "My Happy Christmas" (be it a re-release or its own thing) was such a no brainer! And if she'd done that in 2019, it would have now had 6 Christmases to build up streams - and who knows, perhaps a song from it would have found its way onto popular playlists over those years and done something. Missed opportunities! Only doing a release of 2 songs just seemed rather halfhearted.

The Royal Albert Hall Christmas show, and the Christmas tour, was kind of like running before you can walk  Someone such as Leona can do a Christmas tour more convincingly due to having an actual Christmas hit, and a Christmas album, so the association is there. It isn't really there at all for Ms Bunton! :arrr:

Plus Leona Lewis is known to be a phenomenal vocalist and had actually toured in the past unlike Emma who (although we know her to be a very good vocalist) is seen as part of a group of girls who "couldn't sing" and had never done anything to build up a touring audience before this point.

The lack of "My Happy Christmas" was such a mis-step, especially since she actually had a Christmas show at The Royal Albert Hall. Never considered it as part of a My Happy Place re-release but, that would have been a good idea indeed, something like Girls Aloud's Chemistry double CD with the Christmas disc with the Christmas songs she performed at the concert and Coming Home for Christmas. She will have recorded them anyway for a backing track so might as well make use of the recordings and all...

Yes, exactly this.

She was with BMG at the time, and they could have easily included her covers in Spotify/Apple playlists, like they did with some of the covers on My Happy Place, and it would have done much better, in my opinion, to broaden her streaming range and tap properly into the Christmas market

But also, she didn't promote it at all. A Couple of interviews on didn't really do it justice, she should have done some live TV performances... It was all very baffling to be honest.

I would LOVE/KILL to know the updated sales from My Happy Place ^_^

As far as we know, it got a new print last year both on vinyl (the magenta edition) and on CD as it is still available in shops so it must have sold ok overall for BMG to bother doing that?

If the UK sales were on 13k by November 2020, it must be nearing the 20k by now?....

I reckon it's probably not quite on 20k but surely it's over 15k with a re-released vinyl? I'd love an update of all their salels, would be so interesting to know.

Urgh I would hope that it is a bit more than 15k after so many years  And with international we are probably looking at 40k overall maybe?... :arrr:

god these numbers aren't cute anyway lol I wonder what Mel C's album is at at the moment as well :teresa: they probably both sold similar numbers with their latest albums :o
