'Piece Of Your Heart' is really a bargain basement Disciples song but it's grown on me quite a bit now. It is catchy xx

'bad guy' also proving to be a big grower, zombie bop ~ I really wish R1 would play the outro though, it's literally the best part of the song

Biography

Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi began creating a buzz in early 2017 with the release of his debut single, "Bruises," a brooding exploration of a failed relationship that introduced his intimate piano and vocal sound. On the strength of his lone single, the Bathgate native sold out legendary Glasgow club King Tut's and notched millions of streams before dropping his follow-up single, the equally stark "Lost on You," later that summer. After signing with Virgin Records, Capaldi included both songs on his debut EP, Bloom, and capped off his banner year with a Scottish Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The front half of 2018 was spent touring in North America and Europe in advance of his next single, "Rush," featuring Jessie Reyez. "Tough" followed a few months later. - iTunes

Lil Nas X

Old Town Road

170x0w.jpg

1st single from first studio album

Released: 3rd December 2018

Label: Columbia Records

The TikTok-spawned phenomenon marries Brothers Osborne and Travis Scott for a country-trap bop fit for Stagecoach and Rolling Loud. “Old Town Road” arrives on the spurs of the video game Red Dead Redemption 2 (which the video directly references), colliding with hip-hop culture and genre-adjacent memes throughout the saloon-ready tune. Lil Nas X showcases a rumbling yet buttery vocal delivery and pairs it with cheeky lyrics that play into the tropes of contemporary hip-hop. - iTunes

Biography

Madonna

Madonna Louise Ciccone (/tʃɪˈkoʊni/; born August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, actress and businesswoman. Referred to as the "Queen of Pop" since the 1980s, Madonna is known for pushing the boundaries of songwriting in mainstream popular music and for the imagery she uses onstage and in music videos. She has frequently reinvented her music and image while maintaining autonomy within the recording industry. Although having sparked controversy, her works have been praised by music critics. Madonna is often cited as an influence by other artists.

Born and raised in Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing as a drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in the rock bands Breakfast Club and Emmy, Madonna signed with Sire Records in 1982 and released her eponymous debut album the next year. She followed it with a series of successful albums, including global bestsellers Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986) and Grammy Award winners Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Many of her songs have reached the top of record charts worldwide, including "Like a Virgin", "La Isla Bonita", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Take a Bow", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up", and "4 Minutes".

Madonna's popularity was further enhanced by her roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), A League of Their Own (1992), and Evita (1996). While Evita earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, many of her other films received poor reviews. As a businesswoman, Madonna founded an entertainment company called Maverick (including the label Maverick Records) in 1992. Her other ventures include fashion design, children's books, health clubs, and filmmaking. She contributes to various charities, having founded Ray of Light Foundation in 1998 and Raising Malawi in 2006.

Having sold more than 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is noted as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) listed her as the second highest-certified female artist in the U.S., with 64.5 million album units. According to Billboard, Madonna is the most successful solo artist in its Hot 100 chart history. She is also the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time, accumulating U.S. $1.4 billion from her concert tickets. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility, Madonna topped VH1's countdown of 100 Greatest Women in Music. Additionally, Rolling Stone listed her among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. - Wikipedia

Maluma

Maluma is the pseudonym for Juan Luis Londoño Arias, a Colombian reggaeton singer known for his sweet tenor voice and streetwise yet romantic delivery. His early singles, "Obsesión" and "Miss Independent," resonated with listeners because Maluma's style celebrated the beginning of reggaeton's genre pop-ification.

Maluma gained early fame as a teenager. He originally pursued football as a vocation, and was gifted enough to attract the notice of the media in his native Medellin. He sang simply for pleasure. Given the rise of the internet, YouTube, and television singing competitions, however, he was pulled toward music. In 2011, at the age of 17, Maluma cut his first single, "Farandulera," independently. Due to its internet popularity and emergent radio airplay, the song gained the attention of Sony Music. The following year, Maluma released Magia, his debut album. Several of its singles -- "Obsesión," "Loco," and "Miss Independent" -- received consistent airplay and hit the charts in Colombia and Latin America. His next single, "La Temperatura," entered the North American charts and earned him a Latin Grammy nomination in 2013.

In 2014, he was the featured vocalist on Elvis Crespo's hit "Ole Brazil," recorded for the World Cup tournament. Maluma returned in early 2015. His first release was PB DB. The Mixtape, a compilation of hits with two new singles, "Me Gustas Tanto" and "Climax." These tracks charted and set the stage for a brand-new album, Pretty Boy Dirty Boy, which appeared in the fall. The recording was produced by Walter Kolm. In 2016, Maluma released a collaborative track with fellow Colombian star Shakira, "Chantage," and the video became massively popular, racking up over one billion views online within five months. The track "Cuatro Babys," which reflected him as a swaggering Lothario with a rotating cast of women in and out of his bedroom, sparked a backlash when offended listeners called out the song's objectifying message. Some circulated a petition to have it removed from digital platforms. (It wasn't, but Maluma apologized.) In 2017, Maluma was named "Artist of the Year" at the Premios Lo Nuestro, a Latin music awards show presented by Spanish-language television network Univision. That same year, he began working on his next album, writing songs in English as well as Spanish. In November 2017, he delivered an initial pre-release single "Corazon," featuring Brazilian singer Nego do Borel that peaked at number five at Hot Latin Songs. In May, he released the full-length F.A.M.E., produced mainly by the artist's Medellin camp including Édgar "Edge" Barrera and "Rude Boyz" Kevin ADG & Chan el Genio, with further duet contributions by Timbaland ("Mi Declaracion"), Prince Royce ("Hangover"), and Jason Derulo on the bilingual "La Ex." The album reached the top spot on the Latin Albums chart and number 37 on the Hot 200. Early 2019 saw Maluma release a remix of the single "Mala Mia," which featured contributions from Anitta and Becky G. - iTunes

Biography

Kygo

Kygo turned the dance-music world on its ear in the simplest way possible: by slowing down. The Norwegian producer (born Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll in 1991) cut his teeth crafting bootleg remixes of songs like Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” and James Blake’s “The Wilhelm Scream”, fleshing out the originals with contrasting touches: EDM drops inspired by his fondness for Avicii and ruminative melodies reflective of his childhood piano studies. In 2013, layering an a cappella of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” over dancing marimbas and a teasingly measured 4/4 beat, he hit upon his slow-motion signature. The following year, he was called up to replace an ailing Avicii on Tomorrowland’s main stage, and his relaxed, sunny vibe stopped EDM’s harder-faster-louder ethos in its tracks. Kygo’s dreamy, pioneering tropical house—encapsulated in singles like the lilting “Firestone” and his even-more-weightless remix of a-ha’s “Take On Me”—cast its influence across the pop music landscape, reaching as far as Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber’s smash, “Where Are Ü Now”, and securing Kygo collabs with Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Miguel and Imagine Dragons. - iTunes

Rita Ora

With her soulful vocals and joyful energy, British-Albanian pop singer Rita Ora made her debut in the late 2000s, quickly rising to the top of the U.K. charts with her debut album Ora. Even after years of label issues threatened to halt her career, she remained on the charts and issued the triumphant sophomore effort Phoenix in 2018.

Born Rita Sahatçiu in Pristina, Kosovo to Albanian parents, she fled the former Yugoslavia with her family in 1991, relocating to England, where she was raised in Notting Hill. An attendee of the famous Sylvia Young Theater School, she sang from an early age and honed her skills singing in pubs and at open mikes. In 2007, she made her first official appearance, guesting on Craig David's single "Awkward"; the next year, she joined Tinchy Stryder on his single "Where's Your Love." Her big break arrived in 2009, when an open mic performance attended by one of Jay-Z's A&R men landed her a deal with the rapper's label, Roc Nation. While working on her debut album, she provided the vocals for DJ Fresh's 2012 drum'n'bass hit "Hot Right Now," which topped the charts in the U.K. She returned to the number one spot that same year with her debut solo single, "R.I.P.," the first taste of her first full-length, Ora, which went straight to the number one spot on the U.K. album charts.

Six years would pass before a proper sophomore follow-up, as Ora remained mired in label issues (eventually leading to a messy split with Roc Nation in 2016). Yet she remained on the charts with a consistent string of singles and collaborations, notably 2014's "Black Widow" with Iggy Azalea (her first Top 10 in the U.S.); 2015's "Poison"; 2017's Top 10 hit "Your Song," and 2018's "For You," a duet with Liam Payne for the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack that topped charts across Europe and was a modest hit in the U.S. Her official sophomore full-length, the aptly-titled Phoenix, finally arrived in late 2018 on Atlantic Records. Along with a star-studded list of producers -- including Alesso, Avicii, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat -- Ora also recruited Julia Michaels ("Keep Talking"), Rudimental ("Summer Love"), and Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, and Charli XCX on the single "Girls." - iTunes

Biography

Fast like Twista but hilarious like the Lonely Island crew, actor and writer David Burd became rapper Lil Dicky in 2013 when he dropped the megahit "Ex-Boyfriend." Busting out of the Philadelphia suburbs, Burd graduated from the Richmond Robins School of Business in 2010 at the top of his class. A move to San Francisco came next, then he began working on Lil Dicky, writing rhymes, cutting demos, and storyboarding videos for two years before he showed them to the public. He first saw rapping as a way to transfer musical success into television and film writing success, but when he posted "Ex-Boyfriend" and reached a million views within the week, hip-hop lover Burd realized his hip-hop dream was already a reality. The 2013 hit landed on the So Hard mixtape that same year, while "White Crime" ("Walk into the movie with my pants full/Twix, bag of chips, plus a Snapple") dropped in 2014. "Classic Male Pregame" landed a year later, along with Dicky's debut album, Professional Rapper, which featured guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Fetty Wap, Hannibal Buress, and more, as well as the single "$ave Dat Money" with Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan. The effort debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 and topped the Top Rap, Comedy, and Independent Albums charts, becoming one of the biggest indie releases of the year. Following a 2017 EP from his side project Brain, Lil Dicky returned with 2018's "Freaky Friday," a collaboration with Chris Brown. - iTunes

Rather spectacular that 6.5 years after Billboard made those awfully pointless genre charts, they've inadvertedly been directly responsible for a #1 hit around the world (even though the new version still isn't on the country chart ~), Lil Nas X the king :cheer:

I knew there was a reason I tuned in this week *. YES Lil Nas X saving us from eternal blandness, I think I enjoy the context and his response to getting excluded from Billboard more than the actual song (and Billy Ray Cyrus really make an effort which is amazing), but still it's a nice oddity to have.

Very pleased to see CHVRCHES in the top 10 also, even if it did take their worst ever song to do it with -_-

Really pleased that 'Old Town Road' has hit #1, it's such a wholesome story of people rebelling against Billboard's ambiguous racism (and a good song xx). Genuinely sounds wayyy more like a country song than half of the pop with a southern accent masquerading as country that fills up Billboard's country charts. He doesn't need them anyway xx

Jonas Blue up to #43. I wonder if he will get another UK top 40 next week.

Ellie Goulding at #50 only. She is not showing her chart power these days. :(

Well r1 have playlisted her song so it should help her into the top 40 next week
