Welcome to Round 12 of Madonna's GHV2 survivor poll, and finishing in 4th place is Don't Tell Me which received 6 votes. Which means that we're left with a trio of 'ROL' singles left in the running and its gonna be brutal. The last round was a pretty close race with 'The Power of Good-Bye' gaining the 2nd highest amount of votes with 4, while 'Frozen' picked up 3 (after 10 rounds of no more than 1), then finally 'Ray Of Light' gained a single vote.

'Don't Tell Me', released in November 2000 as the 2nd single from her 8th studio album 'Music'. Madonna co-wrote and co-produced the track with Mirwais Ahmadzaï, with additional writing from her brother-in-law, Joe Henry. Henry originally conceived it as a tango-styled torch song called "Stop"; the demo was later sent to Madonna, who then proceeded to change its musical composition, turning it into a country-dance song. Lyrically, Madonna asks her lover not to control her. Upon release the song became a critical and commercial success reaching the top of the record charts in Canada, Italy and New Zealand, as well as the top five in several regions. In the United States, "Don't Tell Me" reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100, tying her with the Beatles as the artist with the second-most top-ten singles in the Hot 100 history.

'Don't Tell Me' was probably cited at the time as the most unlikely follow up to the massive lead single with its stop-and-go guitar riffs, an atypical structure and peculiar lyrics, but funnily enough it totally works, with Madonna at her most soulful while at the same time giving a forceful vocal performance. Its just a great song and definitely one her greatest from the 2000's, and even this far into her career she can still create a unique thoughtful little gem that became a well deserved smash hit. Its ranking here is the same position it reached in the UK and USA charts, quite amusing.

Right then we are down to our final 3 now and they're all from the 'ROL' era, same rules apply just vote for your least fave and the one with the most will bow out before the final.

I assumed TPOG would be out a lot earlier . What a lovely song.
I went for The Power of Goodbye but that and Frozen rank pretty closely to me and they often switch around.
