Today marks 30 years since the release of 'Hand On Your Heart'. The cheery pop track was the perfect lead to Kylie's second album Enjoy Yourself, building upon the sound established the year prior but with a notable, new confidence. It became a huge hit around the world, including the UK where it became her third number one and stands as her 4th best selling single to date with half a million copies sold.

What's everyone's thoughts and memories of 'Hand On Your Heart'?

I remember that I liked it back then, but I didn't love it. Today I'm not listening to it much anymore. The only song from the Enjoy Yourself era that's still on my playlist is I'm Over Dreaming Over You.

One of my least favourite Kylie singles if I’m honest, usually skip, never too late and wouldn’t change a thing are far superior

It's not awful or anything, but it's arguably the lead single of hers I probably listen the least to after Flower.
Loved it then and still love it now - remember getting bought a 7” copy of it as one of my birthday presents :P

Was never a big fan of this for some reason but I've come round to liking it now. Happy sing-along pop that feels a lot more polished than her debut.

Gorgeous cheese. Brings back so many happy childhood memories for me.

Those naively melancholic lyrics, contrasted with pure pop froth... How can it not make you smile?

This! I totally love it for what it is and the time period it’s from - perfect pop.

It is perfect pop, i always enjoy the studio version/single version.

That said, as a tour song i feel it is one of Kylie's weakest performances as it never sound as good as many other of hits live.

Random chart fact - on the WK Ending 6 May 1989:

"Hand on your heart" was the third single from a female soloist to debut at No.2 (the other two were "The Loco-motion" and Madonna's "Like a prayer"). "Especially for you" doesn't count because Jason Donovan was featured.

It 'technically' sold 78,000 copies that week, and would've easily debuted at No.1. But it had 11,000 sales discounted because PWL had the cassingle at £1.99 rp, lower than BPI rules at the time.

So because of the cock up sales were reduced to 67,000, against The Bangles "Eternal Flame" selling 69,000 copies in it's fourth and final week at No.1. Kylie hit the top spot the following week with 103,000 copies.

Only for the mess up hand on your heart would have had 2 weeks at number 1. I didnt know this before so it's good to know.

That was a big blunder with it costing them number 1 that week.

Back then a number 1 was a big thing so i would think someone got in serious trouble over the mistake.

At least it did eventually make number 1.

Incredible that back then selling a cassette for £1.99 got you sales removed whereas now 59p iTunes downloads and free streams all count

Shows how much the industry has changed since then.

I miss the the days when we got 2 cd singles per single, 12 inch vinyl and dvd for some singles.

^^ I love my old school Kylie collection and the days of CD1, CD2, 7” and 12” vinyl, Casette and DVD single!
