^ I suppose I can appreciate why this album would have been considered daring/controversial upon its release, after all some of it is pretty near to the bone (particularly Where Life Begins!). I can imagine this must have been frustrating for Madonna who was clearly forward-thinking and liberated. It's a shame that attitudes of that time overshadowed the fact that this is actually a pretty strong album, and really well produced!

 

In This Life really caught my attention. It's such a tragic subject matter, but beautifully expressed. Pretty surprised to see a bunch of low scores given to it!

^ :wub: I really enjoyed Bedtime Stories! Out of her first 6 studio albums, I'd say that this is the most consistent overall listen. With the first few albums I think I'd rather pick and choose to hear to my favourite songs rather than listen from start to finish, but with this one I'd be happy to press play and hear it all the way through. The R&B production is lush, but it's still pop leaning.

I'm shocked it's taken you until now to hear the album in full! :o So pleased you enjoyed your listen though and yes to 'Sky Fits Heaven' being picked as a highlight! I'd place 'Skin' above it as my favourite album track but I think 'Sky Fits Heaven' would have been the best choice had they gone for a 6th single. Presumably it was considered as such as remixes were commissioned.

I wasn't anticipating Bedtime Stories to be as good as it is, mainly because I've never really noticed it being cited as one of her best! Having heard all of her albums now bar Madame X (a task for tomorrow :cool: ), I'd possibly say... 1. Confessions on a Dance Floor / 2. Ray of Light / 3. Bedtime Stories :o

Stick Like a Prayer third and that's my Madonna Top 4! :o

That's my top 2 followed by True Blue making it my top 3 ^_^
