Winner revealed in 19th September.

Possible contenders:

IDLES

Fontaines D.C.

Anna Calvi

Dave

Little Simz

Loyle Carner

Slowthai

Kate Tempest

Black Midi

Thom Yorke

Villagers

The 1975 (not sure though, since the album already won a BRIT Award)

Lewis Capaldi (at least one commercial success album)

The Comet Is Coming/Ezra Collective

James Blake

Paul Weller

The Twilight Sad

Personal wishlist: Foals, Sleaford Mods, Ex:Re, The Specials, The Good The Bad And The Queen, The Prodigy, Hot Chip, Blood Orange, Jungle, Teleman, The Chemical Brothers, Thom Yorke's Suspiria (if a soundtrack album gets nominated like in 2012. If not, then i would love for AMINA to make it)

listening to Ex:Re right now but don't think it has a chance, best UK album of the last months but Daughter were never nominated if I remember well

and this is a very low-key side-project

from your list I really like James Blake and Villagers

hopefully not Capaldi or the 1975 :(

I'd be very surprised if The 1975 aren't nominated, big contender to win as well. (Unless Mercury do have something against Brit winners :P )

I'd like to see Foals and Fontaines DC as well.

My predictions:

- Foals

- The 1975

- Little Simz

- Loyle Carner

- Dave

- The Chemical Brothers

- Slowthai

- Fontaines D.C.

Sadly I don’t think Skepta’s latest album is strong enough to get him nominated again, certainly not when better ‘rap’ albums like Dave and slowthai are out.

last year the Mercury got lots of criticism cos they gave the prize to Alice Wolf which are super mainstream + terrible, so a total mess of a winner and 1000% undeserved... so pretty sure this year it's gonna go to someone more alternative

hope not The 1975, for me, the worst band around, zero original, every song is a carbon-copy of something else, banal stupid lyrics, cannot think of anything worst

The album's predecessor already won the prize, so I don't know if IIB would make it to the list.

The last time a winning album's successor got a nomination for the prize was in 2011 with Elbow's Build A Rocket Boys (winning album being The Seldom Seen Kid).

Hoping for a Self Esteem nomination 🙌🏼

some personal wishes-

Idles (winning contender surely?)

Black Midi (this should be an easy nominee but i don't really trust the panel x)

Foals

The Comet Is Coming

The Chemical Brothers

The Twilight Sad

Snapped Ankles

Gazelle Twin (not in a million years but a live performance would be the greatest thing ever)

The list has been revealed.

Anna Calvi - Hunter

Black Midi - Schlagenheim

Cate Le Bon - Reward

Dave - Psychodrama

Foals - Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1 (*inhales* YAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!)

Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel

IDLES - Joy As An Act Of Resistance

Little Simz - GREY Area

NAO - Saturn

SEED Ensemble - Driftglass

Slowthai - Nothing Great About Britain

The 1975 - A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships

Sad that James Blake, Thom Yorke, The Comet Is Coming and Hot Chip didn't make it, but still a great list.

fdahhhfgh Black Midi yesss *.*

pleased for Foals and Idles too (Comet should really be on there though)

Disappointed that Loyle Carner’s latest wasn’t included, feels like a big step up in quality to me; contrary to reviews.

Of these acts, I think I’d most like Fontaines D.C. to win - incredible debut (though last song could’ve been dropped).

I'd really like it to go to Dave or Foals. Wouldn't mind Black Midi either.

Great to see slowthai on there and my entirely uninformed inkling is he has a decent chance of winning it? IDLES and Little Simz probably being contenders too (and maaaaybe Dave but I feel like if they're gonna go for one of the rap albums the other ones seem more like Mercury's inclination).

James Blake not making the cut is a bit disappointing but of course he has already won it once so he doesn't need any more Mercury validation.

Had a quick peep at the bookies and I see slowthai and IDLES are indeed the early favourites along with Dave.
