3 Words

All this elimination game has done is remind me how she perhaps has the worst pop discography of anyone ever.

The Angel of the North has one of the best singles discographies of any British Female!!!

(I have to support my fellow Geordies though)

Under The Sun to go.

I’ve voted for it since round 2.

3 words leading is terrible! Literally one of her best and one of the more interesting pop collaborations for me. Definitely not a rent a rapper like collab the way Crazy Stupid Love was.

Promise This in the BAD category with all these songs? C'mon now, at least put it in OK. But I agree with everything else, although I have to admit, I Don't Care is my guilty pleasure

I don't see any likeable qualities in 'Promise This'. I'll be targetting that once '3 Words' goes.

Check out the Adele cover, made me like the song more

I like most of Cheryl's singles, I think her discography gets a hard time! Heartbreaker has never been a favourite of mine and I can't say I return to The Flood / Under the Sun much but the rest are all really solid (3 Words has aged very well in particular).

That's what got me into it too. An example of a cover being better than the original!

3 Words still sounds fresh today. Never understood the hate for it.

Went for Promise This as the production sounds cheap. Would love a remaster

I've always found 3 Words (the song) to be a really interesting listen. The production has a very mesmerising and ethereal quality to it! I find Cheryl's vocal delivery to be kind of icy, which suits the soundscape. I think the lyrics are the weakest element of the song, there's not much to them. 3 Words is almost 10 years old and to me it doesn't sound dated, it's not at all indicative of the most popular sounds of the late 00s. I can't actually think of another song like it, certainly not anything that was a commercial hit!

I'm pleasantly surprised it's made it this far into the results because it tends to be targeted quite early on... I would have predicted an earlier exit. It's clearly a divisive song, so it's fitting that it's looking likely to end up being the middle song in the results.

I totally forgot that it was randomly a huge hit in Australia, #5 peak and Platinum!

Add me to the list of people who understand why '3 Words' is so hated. It's so unusual among her discography and definitely feels like it would have been a risk as single #2. If it had been released now then people would be applauding it for being so different for Cheryl, I'm sure.

THIS.

3 Words is so ungeneric, is different, showed a different side of both her and will, had a good and interesting visual too.

A lot of people criticise Cheryl for like not doing everything in there ^.

I'm pleasantly surprised '3 Words' is still in (I hadn't checked in a few rounds), as I'm used to it regularly getting negative comments. I tend to assume that's because it's so unlike a typical Cheryl or Girls Aloud song, with no big pop chorus, and the appeal lying more in the subtle, icy production that builds throughout. So it makes sense if it appeals to an entirely different set of people.

Agreed! The one song I think of as comparable is Rihanna's 'Photographs', which is pretty much a counterpart to '3 Words' to which most of the same descriptors (and polarised reception, probably) can be applied. (Also one of my favourite Rihanna songs.)

It's probably will.i.am's presence and production that got them to try pushing it here, which they hadn't really done with 'Fight For This Love' (I might've seen it mentioned online at the time, but I'm pretty sure '3 Words' was the first I heard from her; the #54 peak 'Fight For This Love' got was 3 months after '3 Words', as an attempted follow-up). Or any Girls Aloud song in a while, for that matter, as the last time they charted here was 'The Show' in mid-2006 (yes, 2006, after 'Biology'). I'm not sure why the same didn't amount for 'Call My Name' and Calvin's similar momentum - maybe they didn't go hard enough on iTunes discounts and front page promotion (which had major effects in 2012), as it did get decent airplay. I remember thinking it should be released in the US as 'Calvin Harris feat. Cheryl'

I like all of the songs left (and all her singles for that matter, except 'The Flood', which I'm not really familiar with anyway), but 'I Don't Care' seems like the least essential.

What's going on? This should've been closed long time ago! 3 words been leading the poll for a whole week. Don't tell me the OP is waiting for another song to catch up?

No. If you look back at previous rounds, they’ve mostly been open for around a week. That’s typically when we get around to making a new round, but there’s no strict time limit.

You could have just asked when the next round is due instead of insinuating things?

I’m on my phone at the moment and I hate doing polls on here, it’s fiddly. Next round will be up when I’m next on the computer.

Oh sorry. Not familiar with these kind of rates, just finished my first one on Gaga's forum and that one went really fast and now I'm doing rates on other artists forums and this one is the only one that's not moving as fast so I overreacted a bit.
