I hold Some Kind of Bliss in high regard.

When released i did feel it wouldn't do hugely well for Kylie but thought a safe Top 20 entry.

Some Kind of Bliss missing the Top 20 was a big shock to everyone and was a strong indication the Impossible Princess era would underperform.

I was gutted and shocked SKIB going in at 22 but I think it was 16 in the first midweeks and I was expecting top 5 or 10.The way it dropped down the chart so quick was as bad. I loved it but in a different way to pop kylie as I was a big manic st preachers fan aswell.

Some Kind Of Bliss was the sound no one expected as it was so far removed from pop. As different as Confide In Me was, it had a pop element to the song.

Despite Some Kind Of Bliss flopping it did once again help people see Kylie differently as it was 2 lead singles in a row that were very far removed from her days at PWL.

The Manic Street Preachers were a big band with credibility and working with Kylie partially helped Kylie with some credibility to those who just saw Kylie as a product of the PWL machine.

IP did bring her credibility and equally nearly ended her music career but boy did she bounce back bigger than ever.

IP from a career perspective alone is strange, it was the album Kylie needed to make for herself and also to make her realise that pop is where she belongs.

In general her album with less pop have not performed as strongly.

If IP had been a huge success what do you think kylie would have done next?

I don’t think she would have continued with the same sound - she never does, I would imagine her doing something similar to KM94.

Hard to predict as Kylie was going through a high quest for experimentation during those years.

A rock album could have followed.

If IP had become a greater success i think Kylie could have worked more closely with more indie related people.

I'd have thought at the time choosing SKOB would have made perfect sense because the Manic Street Preachers were massive, probably even at their peak in the commercial stakes.

Agreed, I can see why they went for it as the lead from a commercial point of view, even if I think 'Limbo' would have represented the album better. It's easy to say they made the wrong choice now we know it flopped, but perhaps nothing from this era was destined to do well?

I believe it is likely the era was destined not to do well.

The material was strong but it wasn't the material people wanted from Kylie.

Her popularity was in a continuous decline in the second half of the 90s so it prob would have made no difference but thankfully it paved the way for the huge success that followed.
