I never thought 3 Nights would go top three! Was really happy just for it to go top 40, so watching it climb a little every week has been great.

That week Senorita dropped to No2, due to Eds album release, breaking its no1 run really annoys my OCD, so pointless lol.

I'm really glad that week happened though, I'd have been so gutted if Beautiful People was now spending a fifth consecutive week at number two.

Biography

Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media coverage. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. She signed with label Big Machine Records and became the youngest artist ever signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. Her 2006 self-titled debut album was the longest-charting album of the 2000s in the US, where it peaked at number five. The album's third single, "Our Song", made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Hot Country Songs chart. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the success of pop crossover singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 in the US. The album won four Grammy Awards, with Swift becoming the youngest Album of the Year winner.

Swift was the sole writer of her 2010 album, Speak Now. It debuted at number one in the US and the single "Mean" won two Grammy Awards. Her fourth album, Red (2012), yielded the successful singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble". For her fifth album, the pop-focused 1989 (2014), she received three Grammys and became the first woman and fifth act overall to win Album of the Year twice. Its singles "Shake It Off", "Blank Space", and "Bad Blood" reached number one in the US, Australia, and Canada. Swift's sixth album, Reputation (2017), and its lead single, "Look What You Made Me Do", topped the UK and US charts; with Reputation, she became the first act to have four albums sell one million copies within one week in the US. Her upcoming seventh album, Lover (2019), spawned two US top-five singles, "Me!" and "You Need to Calm Down".

Swift is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 50 million albums—including 32.7 million in the US—and 150 million single downloads. As a songwriter, she has received awards from the Nashville Songwriters Association and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was included in Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time in 2015. She is the recipient of various other accolades such as 10 Grammys, one Emmy, 23 Billboard Music Awards, 23 American Music Awards, and 12 Country Music Association Awards, and holds six Guinness World Records. She has appeared in Time's 100 most influential people in the world three times (2010, 2015, 2019) and Forbes' list of top-earning women in music (2011–2015). She also ranked first in the Forbes Celebrity 100 (2016 and 2019), and was the youngest to be featured in the magazine's listing of the 100 most powerful women (2015). - Wikipedia

Biography

Miley Ray Hemsworth (née Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus; November 23, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. After playing minor roles in the television series Doc and the film Big Fish as a child, she became a teen idol in 2006, starring in the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana as the character Miley Stewart. Her father, musician Billy Ray Cyrus, also starred in the series, which aired for four seasons until 2011.

Cyrus has earned three number-one albums on the US Billboard 200 with Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), Breakout (2008), and Bangerz (2013). Her releases The Time of Our Lives (2009), Can't Be Tamed (2010), and Younger Now (2017) debuted in the top-five in the United States, while her album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz (2015) was released for free online streaming on SoundCloud. Further, Cyrus has attained an additional two number-one and three top-ten soundtracks credited as Hannah Montana. She has also earned nine top-ten entries on the US Billboard Hot 100: "See You Again", "7 Things", "The Climb", "He Could Be the One" (as Hannah Montana), "Party in the U.S.A.", "Can't Be Tamed", "We Can't Stop", "Malibu" and the chart-topping "Wrecking Ball".

Cyrus launched her film career as a voice actress in the animated film Bolt (2008). She starred in the feature films Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) and The Last Song (2010). On television, she was the host of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and has hosted Saturday Night Live three times since 2011. Cyrus has been featured as a coach on the singing competition television series The Voice; she has appeared in two seasons of the show since her debut in 2016.

Cyrus has earned numerous awards and nominations, was recognized as "Artist of the Year" by MTV in 2013, and was included on the annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in 2008 and 2014, respectively. Her image has been the subject of significant media commentary and public controversy, as she changed it in the early 2010s from wholesome to a highly sexual persona. Cyrus is an outspoken animal rights advocate, and adopted a vegan lifestyle in 2014. That year, she founded the non-profit Happy Hippie Foundation, which focuses on youth homelessness and the LGBT community. - Wikipedia

Dominic Fike's climb reminds me of how Gangnam Style kept climbing up every week until it got to it's peak. Since streaming got included in the chart these kind of things hardly happen now.

Is it not more likely now with streaming? Streams build and build over time. 29 of the current top 40 have climbed to their peak positions!

I never thought 3 Nights would go top three! Was really happy just for it to go top 40, so watching it climb a little every week has been great.

I've always been a fan of slow rises and quicker falls in the chart rather than instant entries at no1 due to name or being held back so this chart run is great.

One thing about this era though is the rises can be VERY slow and the falls VERY slow which isn't great compared to the 1980s when it would generally be 39-26-15-7-2-4-8-14-19-28-40 for a hit single. Only rarely did a song rise like nowadays back then such as 'Relax' by Frankie Goes to Hollywood or 'Blue Monday' by New Order and these occurred due to specific conditions/promo.

Senorita is overrated in my opinion but when you see the names involved in the song it's no surprise it's doing so well.

I'm really glad that week happened though, I'd have been so gutted if Beautiful People was now spending a fifth consecutive week at number two.

I guess when you look at it like that. Its like the Alice Dee Jay debate. But did BP DESERVE to be no1 or was it just there that week due to the album release? Its hard to say. No doubt its a huge hit this summer no matter what.

Oh yeah that's true, I must be mixing it up with songs that stay in certain positions within the top 10 for many consecutive weeks due to streaming.

The album release is what got it up to number one for sure, but having spent seven consecutive weeks in the top three now I think it's sold enough to deserve to be a number one.

Its true to say but the biggest names enter automatically in the top 10/5 these days because of name alone a lot of the time which isn't good imo.

Like Taylors 2 top 5 singles this summer - Huge entries in their release weeks but for this era they both fell away quite quickly overall in the top 40.

The album release is what got it up to number one for sure, but having spent seven consecutive weeks in the top three now I think it's sold enough to deserve to be a number one.

Absolutely, definitely not a so called 'Non-Number 1'.

OCD is a really serious condition, you shouldn't be referring to it so flippantly.

Anyway, I prefer to call it CDO as then the letters are in the correct order.

I know it is and I wasn't meaning to be flippant about it. Apologies if it came across that way by me adding lol at the end.
