Posted September 10, 20195 yr What would you say is your favourite ever single year of Sport in your lifetime? For me it would undoubtedly be 2008. Best ever F1 season in my opinion, literally half of the races were classics. Best ever Wimbledon tournament with Murray's rise and the greatest men's match ever witnessed. And to top it all off Manchester United won the Premier League & Champions League double. The only letdown was an England-less Euro 2008. Shout-outs go to 2018 with England's ride to the World Cup Semis & 2010 which also featured one of my fave F1 seasons. Edited September 10, 20195 yr by dobbo
September 10, 20195 yr 2012 olympics without a doubt being a volunteer bit impartial but still probs one of the biggest sporting moments our lifetime like???
September 10, 20195 yr Author Oh absolutely. I'm not an avid watcher of the Olympics but it definitely felt pretty special as hosts. On my part though I was volunteering in Africa that Summer so missed the majority of it!
September 10, 20195 yr Football wise last year was close, although it felt too easy but 1990 and 1996 stand out as times when the country came together beyond all expectations '96 probably edges it
September 10, 20195 yr I'd agree with 2012, the Olympics and Paralympics - so many great sporting achievements and moments and I feel like it truly brought the country together and inspired a generation.. ; ) it was also the first year that a British cyclist won the Tour de France and Andy Murray won the US Open beating Novak Djokovic, I remember being on night shift and listening to that iconic final on shift until 3 or 4 am or whenever it finished. Either 2005 or 2003 for second place. 2005 for that amazing UEFA Champions League Final with Liverpool coming back and for that Ashes series. 2003 for the England Rugby World Cup win and Paula Radcliffe's Marathon record.
September 11, 20195 yr Oh absolutely. I'm not an avid watcher of the Olympics but it definitely felt pretty special as hosts. On my part though I was volunteering in Africa that Summer so missed the majority of it! Where were u in Africa boi!! ??
September 11, 20195 yr Favourite year in sport would be 2012 for because of the Olympics, Paralympics. will never forget carrying the Olympic Torch through my home town that was a thrilling experience that I'll never forget. Wiggins winning the Tour de France, Murray winning the US Open. That climax to the Premier League for that season. Europe's fight back in the Ryder Cup. Frankel becoming the greatest Flat horse I've ever seen and remaining unbeaten, that photo finish in the Grand National, that swimmer who disrupted the Boat Race which ruined what was a great Boat Race.
September 11, 20195 yr Avoiding also saying 2012, I'd have to go with 2014, even if it is on more of a personal level. It was the first time I ever watched the Winter Olympics and the Tour de France, both of which I have been obsessed with ever since. The Tour starting in Yorkshire was just a brilliant thing and whilst I didn't go out to see it, seeing all those riders going through places I knew was brilliant (let's avoid the fact that Nibali won by the biggest time gap of the modern era). And of course the World Cup as well, who can forget that match between Germany and Brazil!
September 11, 20195 yr Oh yes, Germany v Brazil. I remember that well watched this with my old man. He went to loo at 1-0 to Germany and came back when Germany made it 5-0!!. That still one of the most extraordinary World Cup matches I've seen.
September 11, 20195 yr Author Where were u in Africa boi!! ?? South Africa, Eswatini (as it's now known) & Mozambique. I actually sat next to one of the South African's beach volleyball Olympic team on the flight back (or so he claimed, must have been running very late lol).
December 15, 20195 yr Mine would be the 1994 World Cup watching Ireland and euro 1996 was a great tournament!
March 22, 20205 yr Author 2020 2010 was pretty decent right? Most unpredictable F1 season in years, PL football kept throwing up weird & wacky results. Had the Isner-Mahut match @ Wimbledon. Grand National was good fun too.
