Robbie Williams to launch own wine range

Hot on the heels of former bandmate Gary Barlow, and despite being sober, the ‘Let Me Entertain You’ star has filed a trademark application for a new drinks range.

Robbie Williams is set to take on former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow in a battle of the wines, as he applies to trademark the name Rude Rise for a selection of drinks. Despite being sober for the last 20 years, the drinks business can reveal that Williams filed an application with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office earlier this month to be able to market wines, alcopops and spirits under the Rude Rise banner.

A nod to his hit song ‘Rudebox’, the brand name will be valid for 10 years if the pop star gets the go-ahead.

Williams has long embraced a teetotal life, and has previously revealed that he has had several stints in rehab for addiction treatment. “I have mainly been a sober person for a majority of my life,” he has said. In 2020, he reportedly branded the UK “delusional” over its drink and drugs culture during an Instagram Live.

“The thing about drugs and drink is the delusion. In the UK and many places, it’s as natural as breathing,” he said during the broadcast. “That paradigm that you get your entertainment and you deal with life from numbing yourself… I’m just finding it interesting as a sober person, we didn’t need to do that. It was just the route the river was taking you.”

Williams’ bid to launch a wine collection follows the success of Gary Barlow’s wine venture, in partnership with Benchmark Drinks. Barlow recently revealed that his wine collection has sold half a million bottles in its first year, celebrating with a lavish party at London department store Harvey Nichols. He said that the wines had benefited from listings in Morrison’s and Asda supermarkets, “with more to come”, and revealed that the current range, which comprises a white, red and rosé, would be extended in the near future.

Robbie Williams reveals he sees himself in Harry Styles

The singer also reflected on leaving Take That and his relationship with Gary Barlow.

Robbie Williams has said he sees “a lot” of himself in pop sensation Harry Styles.

The 48-year-old found fame as a member of hit boyband Take That before going on to forge a successful solo career after the release of his debut album Life Thru A Lens.

Speaking to friend and presenter Scott Mills in celebration of the album, which features hit Angels, Williams was told by Mills, 49, that he sees similarities between the two performers. Williams replied: “Absolutely. I see a lot. This is inconsequential but the algorithm on my YouTube threw up a video of Harry Styles talking in between songs and what he was talking about was a bit of nonsense, like I talk about, just a bit of banter.

“It was like, I see what he’s doing. He’s trying to fill a space… That stage is massive and it’s a lonely place. “You’d better throw some shapes or you’re just going to feel awkward.”

During the conversation, which took place on Robbie Williams: My Life Thru A Lens on BBC Radio 2, Williams also discussed his initial departure from Take That and the impact on his relationship with former bandmate Gary Barlow. “All the information going into the computer had made the computer overload … So it felt like I was in some sort of burning building and I needed to get out. “That’s how it felt at the time. Then I was like, ‘okay, I’ll do this tour and then I’ll leave’. And they actually went, ‘Actually, if you’re going to leave, can you go now?’”

Williams left the band, which at the time consisted of Williams, Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Jason Orange, in 1995 before temporarily rejoining in 2010. “I think that I was in the middle of a nervous breakdown, my first of many,” Williams said of leaving the band. Williams revealed he later “made sure” there was chart rivalry between himself and Barlow, 51, telling Mills: “Because that’s what the 90s was about. This is what was happening in my camp – I say my camp, I mean my head – it’s like wrestling or boxing.

“It’s your tribe against their tribe, and my tribe was me and their tribe was Gary Barlow, and I was all up for that kind of conflict because I got some sort of kick from it.

“Unfortunately Gary didn’t feel the same way and he didn’t get a kick from it, because he was a well-rounded grown-up that didn’t need that sort of inflammation in his life. I so badly wanted him to respond but, like I say, he’s a well-rounded grown up.”

Williams said he and Barlow have since repaired their relationship, adding: “Look, we are family. It’s like blood family for all the good, and all the bad, and we are intrinsically locked together on this journey on the planet. “All of us – me, Jay, Howard, Mark and Gaz. I will always be the younger brother and he will always be the older brother. And I did things that I’m not proud of, and said things I’m not proud of as a reaction to things that I hope he’s not that proud of either. That being said, taking the mickey out of Gary, he didn’t deserve that.”

Robbie Williams: My Life Thru a Lens is available on BBC Sounds from December 30 and airs on BBC Radio 2 on January 1 at 5pm.

Southern California’s weird and wild real estate market: The priciest home sales of 2022

For months, rumors swirled on where Drake — perhaps the world’s biggest hip-hop star — would buy a home. The rapper toured the finest estates of Southern California but eventually settled for something off-market, quietly paying $75 million for a Beverly Crest mansion owned by fellow music star Robbie Williams.

The 20,000-square-foot home includes 10 bedrooms, 22 bathrooms, a tennis court and mosaic-tile pool.

REAL ESTATE

Drake’s new place is comically large, clocking in at more than 20,000 square feet on more than 20 acres — a rarity for the area. Across those 20,000 square feet, it manages to squeeze in 10 bedrooms and a staggering 22 bathrooms, as well as an elevator, wine cellar, gym, game room and 11-car garage.

Robbie Williams to create energy drink brand after Prime Hydration stripped off shelves

Singer's range would appear under the label Rude Pump and include a 'powdered nutritional supplement energy drink mix'

Robbie Williams is reportedly preparing to release his own brand of energy drinks following the rush to buy Prime Hydration, a drink created by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul. The Mirror reports that patent applications filed last month show Robbie, who allegedly used to drink 20 cans of Red Bull a day, applied to trademark a selection of his own energy drink products. His bid included a “powdered nutritional supplement energy drink mix”, “electrolyte drinks for medicinal purposes” and “medicated mineral drinks”. The venture could be a huge money-spinner for the former Take That star, 48, who is already worth around £200million.

A source said: “The success of Prime hasn’t gone unnoticed by other showbiz folk. Drinks are big business, especially when they can go viral on the internet.”

Robbie’s drinks range would appear under the label Rude Pump – a nod to the singer’s 2006 album Rudebox. The patent application lodged with the Intellectual Property Office will remain in place for 10 years if it is approved. He has similar cover in place for gym gear and diet drinks.

Robbie has spoken openly in the past about his struggle with drugs and compulsive behaviour around energy drinks and food. Other stars to launch their own energy drinks include Hollywood actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and rapper 50 Cent.

Heard your question Alex B-)

What always strikes me when I listen to stuff like this is how grounded he is.

He looks very "LA" and flaky but actually has his feet completely on the ground and is as self aware as always.
