'Let me entertain you': HUGE name locked in for GF entertainment

Robbie Williams will headline the Telstra Pre-match entertainment at the 2022 Toyota AFL Grand Final

By Callum Twomey

GLOBAL superstar Robbie Williams is set to entertain footy fans after being locked in as the Telstra pre-game entertainment at this year's Toyota AFL Grand Final.

The Angels, Rock DJ and Let Me Entertain You singer has been confirmed as the headline act of this year's premiership decider, which returns to the MCG for the first time since 2019.

Williams, who has sold 80 million records worldwide in a solo career spanning 25 years, will open the Grand Final in front of a capacity MCG crowd. He will also pick his band for the performance, which will feature Australian musicians.

"I am so excited to be performing for all the fans, on the hallowed turf of the MCG, for the biggest game of the year," Williams said.

"I'm really looking forward to performing with a cast of very talented local Australian musicians and I can't wait to see you all on that last Saturday in September.

"If it goes well, I might even put my hand up to be the next CEO of the AFL."

Williams has been a favourite of Australian fans over more than two decades with countless tours whilst also recording 13 No.1 albums in the UK as well as 14 No.1 singles.

He is a huge get for the AFL's biggest day, with outgoing boss Gillon McLachlan saying Williams would put on a show befitting the event.

"We are back at the MCG, back in front of 100,000 fans and no better performer than Robbie Williams to help amplify the atmosphere ahead of the biggest sporting event in the country," McLachlan said.

Williams' set of worldwide hits will make for a performance to register with an array of fans, with Kids, Feel, Millennium and Monsoon among his other major songs likely to be considered for his setlist.

The League's manager of commercial and customer Kylie Rogers said a number of Australian acts would also be involved in the pre-game entertainment.

"Robbie Williams is considered one of the world’s greatest showmen and to have him perform in the Telstra pre-game entertainment, along a with a cast of Australian acts to be announced shortly, will be the perfect way to open the 2022 Toyota AFL Grand Final," Rogers said.

Mushroom Group CEO Matt Gudinski said his team were working to produce "one of the greatest Grand Final pre-game spectacles of all time", with a half-time show involving homegrown talent also being devised.

Robbie Williams to collaborate with J.Lindeberg on golf collection

J.Lindeberg has revealed that it will be launching a golf apparel collection with music star Robbie Williams, with looks made for both on and off the course.

Dropping July 14, the collection will launch during an event that coincides with the 150th anniversary of The Open, held at St. Andrews course, Scotland, running from July 10 to 17, with attendance from notable international golfers.

According to Neil Lewty, head of design at the brand, Williams drew inspiration from an image from the late ‘90s of brand founder Johan Lindeberg, in which he is seen on a golf course wearing an argyle slipover.

In a release, Lewty said: “Robbie saw that picture on one of our first calls and immediately said, ‘Let’s do everything in bright pink’. He loves what we’re doing as a brand – the attitude, the colours, the fashion sensibility – and we jumped at the opportunity to work with such a British icon.”

The singer, who is set to tour this autumn, created a series of looks for both men and women, merging his fashion sense with J.Lindeberg’s design values. The result is a series of contemporary pieces, such as polo shirts, cardigans and accessories, like bucket hats, each with modern twists.

Alongside staple pink hues used throughout the line, the collection also features a pattern made by merging the J.Lindeberg and Robbie Williams logos.

“I love golf and I love fashion. J.Lindeberg are on the cutting edge of both, so when I was asked to collaborate with such an iconic brand it was a definite yes,” Williams said. “I’ve really enjoyed working on the pieces for the collection with them, and it will be so incredibly special to launch the range at the home of golf – St. Andrews – in July at the 150th Open.”

We have had all the big names in golf here for the Adare Manor Pro-Am which is just out the road from this city ( huge charity event ) , they are all heading to Scotland this weekend for the Open starting Sunday so I expect the Lindeberg/Williams collection will be launched then.

The bits of the collection we have seen so far looks impressive , will be great to see Robs designs again .. the Port Vale jersey was impressive & a big favourite with fans of the club

Plus -he's really good (and serious) about playing it -so it's not just for show

He really seems to be enjoying his art/designing at the moment
