One of my favourite artist discoveries of this year, Orla really blew it out of the park with this quite minimal but still very grabbing track. There is only really a guitar playing throughout but I think that actually defines the song and the lyrics are really meaningful as well. I think I sent it to a song contest and it probably came near the bottom but that's not what I remember it for. This paved the way for a number of really good singles from her to enter my chart and I hope her popularity continues to rise.

In late 2018/early 2019, Coldplay had that short era where they ditched the alternative persona and became Los Unidades. They released a small little album, however it was this world music-y collab with Stormzy and others that really grabbed me. I was surprised to find that E-Lo was pushed as the single as this seemed so obviously like the lead single from the pack. It was just so good, and held up well throughout the Christmas season into this year where it stuck around enough to be fairly high up here.

that was one of my faves from this years eurovision!

not surprised to read he is swedish actually considering it sounds rather Avicii influenced.

I hadn't really thought of the Avicii connection before but I guess it does yeah with the guitar-y/piano dance style - thanks Dan!

A discovery from BJSC Pride (although not the highest song from that particular contest in this countdown), this was a real earworm-y indie piece that was incredibly catchy and fun, taking me back to a time when music was so much more simple. The lyrics were certainly *questionable* which led to various gains and drops in my chart as I contemplated whether or not I should actually be listen to the song, before I quickly decided to chuck it out my chart. Either way it certainly finished too low in Pride.

This year marked Metronomy's return, and they came back with some really fun tunes. First off was Lately, which didn't really do much to me for a few weeks until it absolutely took off in my head and became a real long-runner in my chart. Then they came back with this, which initially didn't hit me as much as Lately, but it very quickly grabbed me, and I've never gone off it really. With quirky lyrics such as 'she's happy like my birthday' and 'she's the sting in my nettle', complete with a computer-esque beat and comic video it's almost tailor-made for me and a track I encourage you all to listen to!

The first worship song in my countdown, when I heard this just before Christmas I thought that this might be a good year for Christian songs that absolutely blew my mind away. Unfortunately that wasn't the case but this remains a really positive track, taking on the subject of mental health from a Christian perspective and just being an incredibly encouraging and uplifting piece. It led a series of very decent singles from this year.

Let's face it, you're only reading this because you couldn't just scroll past that video thumbnail :P Anyway, this tune ended Electric Guest's Top 10 drought with a tune that takes a while to get into but is incredibly catchy. Of course it's nowhere near as fabulous as 'This Head I Hold' which will certainly be in my EOD if I get round to doing one but it's still very good in its own right.

This is a very simple song, with the same melody and guitar backing basically throughout the track, however it felt perfect for the winter season and I very quickly fell in love with it. It has elements of the summer-y tropical house, but done in a very mellow way, making it quite a beautiful track.

Probably the rock-iest song in my entire Top 100, Feeder released some more new material this year (I was convinced Eskimo charted in my Personal Chart but apparently not), beginning with this absolute smash. Evertyhing in it just makes me love it so much, from his accent to the melody to all the guitars. Feeder haven't lost anything and have arguably improved from their hayday.

The last song under 1000 points, this was Wallows' only big hit in my chart this year, seeing quite a steep drop from when they were safely in the Top 10 last year. This is still a very catchy song though, some very quirky lyrics in true Wallows style and a very good feature by Clairo who bagged her first Top 40 hit with this, however it does lack what These Days did so well a little bit.

From the start of the year to right at the end, this is the debut chart entry for American pair X Lovers who enter my chart with a bang, bringing a song which feels quite minimal but in a way that makes me nostalgic for the 00s again. Before compiling this countdown, I genuinely forgot this song (and the mysterious 'jens' for that matter) was even a thing, but it is a very funky pop song that took a while to fully get into but a stalwart in my Top 40 for quite a while. Certainly one for the male pop fans on here.

The second of two entries from James Blunt and the first of two from Alle Farben, this ended up peaking higher than Faded but sadly ends up considerably lower, however we're certainly getting into the region of songs that I do genuinely love as hearing this back feels so good, however I feel the same about practically every song above it as well! Another great feature from Blunt as well, maybe I might actually like his older stuff instead of taking everyone else's word that it's rubbish (I mean they're all wrong about Lukas Graham aren't they :kink:). Also no bonus points for spotting the week Eurovision happened in this chart run.

We kick off our Top 60 with a song some people might actually have heard of for a change (I have considered knocking some more well known songs down a few pegs in an attempt to get some more comments before thinking better of it). Keane made their grand return this year (although it feels like they never went away now) and this was their first song, a really punchy song which certainly made their comeback known. It only just scraped the Top 10 in a time when the Top 10 was actually hotly contested, and wasn't as amazing as their follow-up, however it's a wonderful song in its own right.

A second #1 in a row and a song that would have been a worthy redemption for Niceland in BJSC had someone else not so rudely snatched it from under my grasp. It's a very poignant song from French DJ Cerrone, not only having a very good melody but also a very strong message about the current state of our planet. It's also (probably) the closest to an instrumental that's in this year's countdown.
