36 Greyson Chance - Summertrain | 2011 | EOY Peak: xx

The second highest Greyson song is an album track from his debut, Hold On 'Til the Night. Summertrain was the instant highlight from an album that surpassed my expectations. The production actually quite brilliantly emulates a train chugging along, and the lyrics are among the most mature on the album - considering Greyson was 13 when the album came out! Still a very strong song, and Greyson agrees - he called it the best song on the album recently, high praise when he's shunned most of it :')

35 Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ign - Work from Home | 2016 | EOY Peak: 5

I definitely enjoyed Fifth Harmony's debut album - all three singles hit the top 10 in my chart, including the #1 hit BO$$. However, I wasn't expecting anything more than another fun bop from album 2's lead single. Work from Home went above and beyond expectations, though. Not only is the song top notch (and by far their best), the video is iconic too. Every aspect was spot on, and it was so exciting to watch it becoming such a gigantic hit globally!

34 Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together | 2012 | EOY Peak: 4

I truly became a Taylor fan throughout 2012 when I checked out her albums - I remember giving Speak Now a listen on the beach on holiday! Therefore, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was the first new track she put out after, and my hype was bound to be high. The new pop sound really works, and I love how the track's jam-packed with personality. I remember listening to it 100 times on day 1, and another 100 on day 2, both while I was blitzing my bedroom  It's held up as a truly great track for me

33 Greyson Chance - shut up | 2019 | EOY Peak: 4

When shut up was released, it had been roughly six and a half years since his last #1 single (Sunshine & City Lights). He'd had a few hits in 2016, but other than that, his chart history had become patchy and inconsistent. shut up was a return to form - it debuted at #3, already his highest position since 2012, and went on to become his third #1 single, setting up the portraits era for greatness. It's Greyson's highest track, and extremely worthy of being my favourite Greyson song

32 Why Don't We - 8 Letters | 2018 | EOY Peak: 4

2018 was the year Why Don't We truly dominated my chart, and 8 Letters was the fourth consecutive #1 they achieved that year. The track brought a more emotional vibe to the table after the album of the same name's previous singles were very much uptempo. It hit #1 in its first full week in my chart and finished as their second highest song in my 2018 EOY - where they had a record four of my top 10!

31 Joel Adams - Please Don't Go | 2016 | EOY Peak: 3

Recommended to me by our own Oricon in late 2015, Joel Adams's Please Don't Go became my first BJSC entry of 2016. Annoyingly, it failed to qualify - shame on you guys! The track, with some heavy payola I'm sure, somehow became a #50 hit in the UK and a top 10 hit in Sweden...! It's now certified gold over here, pretty impressive, though it's a shame his management at the time simply used the track to promote themselves. Joel's since released some great songs with new management - worth more than his one-hit wonder status for sure!

30 Kygo & Whitney Houston - Higher Love | 2019 | EOY Peak: 3

I'd never have expected the incredible Whitney Houston to have one of my favourite tracks of 2019, but it was so amazing to hear her vocals in the chart again. Higher Love is of course a very famous song, but Whitney's version, remixed by Kygo, is my favourite for sure. Kygo's production, while typical for him, perfectly complements Whitney who remains at the core of the track. Seeing it become so big in the UK was very much welcomed, and I never expected Kygo to better Firestone but he really did with this!

29 froy - sideswipe | 2018 | EOY Peak: 2

Best known as an actor, Teen Wolf star Froy Gutierrez launched his music career with sideswipe in 2018, intended to be the lead single from an EP of the same name. I wasn't sure quite what to expect but I ended up loving the track, and it spent five non-consecutive weeks at #1 in my chart, spurred on by meeting Froy at Teen Wolf convention WereWolfCon that October! It was the first of three #1s for Froy, and though he removed it from streaming when he released Fix Me in 2019, I still have the MP3 to enjoy it whenever I want.

28 One Direction - Drag Me Down | 2015 | EOY Peak: 2

Coming out of nowhere, Drag Me Down was a surprise release in August 2015. I remember waking up, with the intention of sleeping again, but I saw it had been released so I stayed up and played it on repeat! It holds up as one of the best 1D songs for me - their second best, in fact. 27 Tom Odell - Real Love | 2014 | EOY Peak: 11

I'd really enjoyed most of the John Lewis advert songs by 2014, so I was keen to see who'd be following my favourite two yet from Gabrielle Aplin and Lily Allen. When it was announced to be Tom Odell, I was even more excited. It was the first new material from him after his debut album, which I truly loved. Real Love is a gorgeous cover (perhaps helped by the fact I don't know the original? Who knows), and it's made even sweeter by the advert it accompanies with the adorably cute Monty and Mabel penguins. It still makes me emotional  Its late release in 2014 meant it only reached an EOY position of #11 - safe to say it would be higher if I re-did that EOY list!

26 Harry Styles - Lights Up | 2019 | EOY Peak: 2

My second favourite track of 2020 ends up at a very respectable 26th place, especially considering its recency! Lights Up was a superb comeback for Harry, complete with an exceptional video packed with strong visuals and memorable moments. The perfect introduction to the groundbreaking Fine Line era. Harry still has one more song to come of course (plus one with 1D!).

When Wish U Were Here first came out, it was a track on Cody's Preview to Paradise EP - a four track sneak preview of his debut album, called Paradise of course, due out just months later. It was an instant highlight, making my low top 10 just off that alone, but with an eventual single push, the song peaked at #1 in my chart and became Cody's biggest hit. This track is also responsible for some of my favourite moments with Buzzjack member Haus - it basically kickstarted our entire friendship

24 Tom Odell - Another Love | 2013 | EOY Peak: 5

Mathematically speaking, the #21-30 section should, on average, be filled with tracks that finished 3rd in my EOYs. Therefore, Another Love is really overperforming, by about 20 places! Tom Odell's breakout hit was the first track I heard from him, while I was waiting for Paloma Faith at the O2 for her Fall to Grace tour! I instantly really liked it and it peaked at #3 in my personal chart, becoming not only the biggest #3 hit my chart's seen, but also one of the biggest non-#1 tracks altogether. It took Tom over a year to finally achieve a #1, following two #2 hits in Grow Old With Me and I Know, with Real Love!

23 Alec Benjamin - Let Me Down Slowly | 2018 | EOY Peak: 10

Talking of overperformers, here's one that's about 70 places higher than it was forecast to land...! Let Me Down Slowly was Alec Benjamin's breakout hit, but it came about two years after I first discovered him. It was a pretty huge moment even from first play, though - I truly loved it, and it became an instant #1 in my chart. Seeing it go top 40 almost a whole year later was completely unexpected, but an extremely proud moment. The track was a big hit in 2018, landing itself at #10 in my EOY, but it actually more than doubled its chart-run in 2019, getting back up as far as #5! I opted not to include it again in my EOY, but it's clear that #10 now seems a bit under-representative for a song that created so many amazing memories.

22 Kate Nash - Do-Wah-Doo | 2010 | EOY Peak: xx

Interestingly, the highest song of 2010 is only at #22 - it looks pretty underwhelming but that's more a reflection of how much 2010 really had an impact on my decade in music, and it was absolutely the least impactful year. However, Kate Nash was the shining star throughout. Her sophomore album My Best Friend Is You was one of my most-anticipated albums EVER (naturally, considering it's the follow-up to my all-time favourite album!), and Do-Wah-Doo was the lead single. I always loved it - it's so effortlessly catchy, and even though it perhaps could do with a little fleshing out, I still really truly love it. It's got the classic Kate Nash lyricisms, with a dash of humour, and the chorus is one of her very best.

21 Lily Allen - Hard Out Here | 2013 | EOY Peak: 18

Another pretty significant overperformer here. In fact, based on the EOY position, this would have been projected to finish between #171 and #180...!!! Hard Out Here's EOY position is highly deceiving though. I must have been very harsh on it due to its relative newness at the time - it came out quite late in 2013 after all. However, it spent 5 weeks at #1 from debut, and has cemented itself as my favourite Lily track. I love how she's calling out the use of the word "bitch" and it's a song that's still so relevant today, you only have to look at hip-hop as a genre to know this. Sheezus was an era of ups and downs, but Hard Out Here made it worthy of its crown.

20 Conrad Sewell - Hold Me Up | 2015 | EOY Peak: 1

Quite interestingly, my EOY #1 2015 only finishes at #20 here! Conrad Sewell's Hold Me Up was my song of the summer 2015, spending a record-breaking six consecutive weeks at the top (matched by Rita Ora's Anywhere since). He also became the first ever artist to lock out the top 3 with Kygo collaboration Firestone and solo track Start Again. So why is Hold Me Up not firmly in the top 10? Simply, it's not one I revisit as much these days. I still love it a lot when I play it, but it's actually not even ended up as my highest 2015 song - Benjamin's Young and Restless (EOY #3) has overtaken both this and 1D's Drag Me Down for top track honour! Nevertheless, I still love Hold Me Up, and I'm so sad it never got a proper chance to smash with some Radio 1 playlisting after promising early signs.

19 Shawn Mendes - Stitches | 2016 | EOY Peak: 2

An unlucky #2 in 2016's EOY, Stitches was something of a sleeper hit both in my chart and in the official chart. When I first heard it as an album track, I quite liked it, but didn't start paying it much attention until its single push later in 2015. It originally peaked at #15 before dropping out. It later re-entered, climbed to #3 and dropped back down, though it hung around in the lower regions of my chart - enough for a #22 position in 2015's EOY! Of course, it exploded in early 2016, re-entering the top 10 and climbing to a new peak of #1 - Shawn's second chart topper. It spent three weeks at the top, in weeks 20-22 of its chart run. Insane! It really set the tone for my Shawn stanning that's happened since, and following its progress to the UK #1 spot was so satisfying too.

18 Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - Live It Up | 2013 | EOY Peak: 3

Flashback to 2013 when Mr Worldwide, RedOne and the beautiful Jennifer Lopez came back for a threepeat. On the Floor and Dance Again were both huge tunes, but Live It Up actually became my favourite of them all (and my fave J-Lo song overall). It's just so much fun, and defined summer 2013 for sure. Pitbull's rap is iconic, as is "make love, don't fight, let's fook tonight x". It remains J-Lo's only #1 in my chart, holding the spot for three weeks and ending up at #3 in my EOY, behind double Ulrik Munther (both songs are still to come so clearly its position was representative!).

17 Matteo Markus Bok - In the Middle | 2018 | EOY Peak: 3

One of my favourite discoveries in recent years, Italian popstar Matteo Markus Bok had been building some steam in my chart by the time In the Middle came out. Just One Lie was his breakthrough hit, reaching #3 at the very end of 2017 and into January 2018, while El Ritmo gave him a #1 hit in September that same year. Less than two months later, enter In the Middle. It was Matteo's second #1 (he's now had five, the joint most from a single studio album with The Vamps' Meet the Vamps), sticking around for four weeks at the top, and cemented itself as the third biggest hit of 2018 - though it's actually the second highest in my EOY!

16 Nemo Schiffman - I Don't Mind | 2017 | EOY Peak: 2

It was our very own Rob S who linked me to this song at the very end of 2016, and instantly, I LOVED it. French popstar turned actor Nemo Schiffman is a two-hit wonder in my chart, and I Don't Mind was a chart-topping track, finishing 2nd in my 2017 EOY (behind Sign of the Times, so it had tough competition!). The production of the track building as the first verse, bridge and chorus continue is second-to-none - I wish I could recreate the adrenaline rush that brought on first play!

15 The Saturdays - All Fired Up | 2011 | EOY Peak: xx

2011 saw The Saturdays at their peak. On Your Radar was an incredible album, helped very much by it containing their best two tracks. More on Notorious later, but All Fired Up was such a grower. I actually really disliked on first play, but it quickly won me round and I ADORE the production. It's packed full of hooks too, and it's easily their best single artwork. This was one of the first songs I really followed in the chart too - I basically owe my Buzzjack journey to this song!
