Need You Tonight only got to no.58 in 1987 but reached no.2 the following year after INXS had become better known. Four songs by Steps received votes in the first round but none of them have gone through to the semi-finals. The Killing Of Georgie occupied both sides of Rod Stewart's single and is probably his finest song. An eclectic list also includes well known songs by The Who and Petula Clark.

Two songs by S Club 7 received votes in the first round and they have also been eliminated. John Legend's huge worldwide hit goes out as well.

A further six singles have a score of 24 points. Four of them received votes from 2 people and the other two had 3 votes. These songs all go through to the semi-finals on a most votes tie-break. The eight songs above all received 24 points from one person so they all leave the contest.

There will be 201 no.2 singles in the semi-finals so one semi will have 51 songs in it. 'Before You Go' by Lewis Capaldi will automatically go into that one in case it has to be withdrawn if it reaches no.1.

I nearly voted for Somebody To Love but went for another Queen song instead.

I'm not a fan of Rod Stewart at all but The Killing Of Goergie is a great song so it got points from me. A song about a homophobic attack (although the word homophobic was not used at the time) was pretty revolutionary when it came out, particularly for a singer of his standing.
