Hmm, I hope so! But I get the impression this year will be all about her memoirs... although it would be fitting to see the 30th anniversary celebrations culminate in a new single.

I've been enjoying #MC30  There's lots of old remixes that have been made available on streaming/download sites. The Daydream era remixes went up this week, my favourite era! I'm hoping that her B Sides/other rarities are forthcoming.

A stunning vocal performance of Open Arms on Top of the Pops in 1996!

As far as I'm aware the footage used in this remix video hasn't been seen before? I'm really liking this version of Anytime You Need a Friend. :music:

The holy grail for Mariah fans is the unreleased music video for Underneath the Stars, which Mariah teased on social media the other day! Back in 2012 she tweeted that she didn't know where the footage was, so it's great that it's been found. It's been in the vaults for 24 years!

Apparently 'The Rarities' is being announced on Good Morning America on Friday, which will include a duet with Lauryn Hill called 'Save the Day' :o :w00t:

The Rarities will be a double CD, with CD2 being audio of her Tokyo Dome concert from 1996! The Japanese release will also include a Blu-Ray of this concert (I will need this version!)

Lauryn Hill 😍 Really looking forward to hearing that
They say Save The Day contains a sample of Killing Me Softly by The Fugees, so maybe it's Lauryn's original singing...

Apparently Loverboy with its originally intended Firecracker sample is going to be one of the tracks :cheeseblock: :cheeseblock:

‘Save The Day’ is VERY Lauryn/fugees... and legit the best thing Mariah has released in YEARS!

I’m gonna be playing this on loop for the rest of today... ta-ra!

Edited by .MIKE.

Like it, too, but I also liked her Caution album, so it's not the best she did in years for me, but I'm looking forward to listen to it a lot.

Really liking this. I would've preferred a proper collaboration rather just sampling, but those melodies at the end

Save The Day is SO good!! So much better than I was expecting, but I don't really know what I was expecting
I feel like it's a bit of a reach to say "Save The Day" features Lauryn Hill since it's just a sample, so I feel a bit let down in that sense, but the song is decent so I'll let her off.

I quite agree.... i notice Spotify has removed the 'with Lauryn Hill' from the title of the song.

I can barely make out Lauryn in the song if I'm honest. It's a nice song but can see why it was kept to bside status... Was it recorded around 'Memoirs'?

I am incredibly excited to hear the original version of Loverboy! It's been a long time coming!

Here's the story behind the Firecracker sample controversy:

Throughout 2000, Carey had already been writing and recording material for Glitter. During this period, she developed the concept for the album's lead single, "Loverboy". Originally, Carey had sampled the melody and hook from the 1978

, using an interpolation of it throughout the chorus and introduction. In early theatrical trailers for Glitter, the original version of "Loverboy" was still featured.

As Carey had ended her contract with Columbia Records, Jennifer Lopez was signed by Tommy Mottola, and had begun recording material for her album, J.Lo (2001). According to The Inc.'s Irv Gotti, Mottola, head of Columbia and Carey's ex-husband, knew of Carey's usage of the "Firecracker" sample, and attempted to have Lopez use the same sample before her. At the time, Carey had become increasingly paranoid over outside executives being informed about Glitter, especially following news of Mottola's "theft" of the song. When the music publishers for "Firecracker" were questioned, they admitted Carey had licensed usage of the sample first, and Lopez's team had signed for it over one month later, under Mottola's arrangement.

Following the scandal, Carey was not able to use the original sample, as Lopez's album was to be released far earlier than Glitter. She subsequently changed the composition of "Loverboy", and incorporated a new sample, "Candy" by Cameo. The "Firecracker" sample was eventually used by Lopez on her song "I'm Real", from her album J.Lo. The remix of Mariah's "Loverboy" featured rapper Da Brat singing a pointed message about "bitches emulating [her] daily", to the melody from "Firecracker".

With the exception of Glitter, all of Mariah's studio albums (and MTV Unplugged) are being repressed on vinyl - or in the case of The Elusive Chanteuse & The Rarities, pressed for the first time! An expensive time to be a Lamb! :kink:

Most of the Amazon UK links aren't live yet, but judging by the US release dates, the Sony albums will be out on 6th November and the Def Jam albums will follow on 22nd January.

Oddly it seems that the only colour variant that's making its way to the UK is the clear version of Emancipation. For now it appears that all the other colours are exclusive to the US.

Emancipation's track list has been expanded to include bonus tracks Don't Forget About Us, Making It Last All Night, Sprung, Secret Love and the We Belong Together remix, but the other albums are all the original standard versions. Note that a gold version of Daydream was released in the US via Vinyl Me Please in 2019, that's why there's no colour variant amongst these upcoming releases.

I'm keen to buy Daydream, Butterfly and The Emancipation of Mimi, and possibly E=MC2, but I'm not sure about the others yet! I intend to just get the black versions, it would be way too expensive to order the colour versions from the US, even though they look very nice...
