Wow I'm surprised you rated my song so highly, Jade :o Thanks!

8 – Q

7 – Terra Avium | Jonathan Young - Phantom Of The Opera (feat. Malinda Kathleen Reese)

6 – Q

well I couldn’t see shit bc of my shitty internet but it was a mistake following results, so much for trying to avoid a DNQ streak

maybe I should take a break bc I don’t know where to go from here

Use your DNQ's to your advantage and experiment!

Thanks for hosting the results,Kye.

I lost five of mine. Considering, only eight songs failed to qualify, that's a lot.

12 - Seyetana

10 - Q

8 - Niceland

7 - Q

6 - Q

5 - Tartford

4 - Land of DW

3 - Skall

2 - Q

1 - Q

It might have judging by how poorly all the other rock songs in this semi (minus Rolloland which is different) did :kink:

tbh I only stuck around because I wanted to avoid a DNQ streak but that’s all out the window so I have no ties to the contest now

unless I should aim for the record DNQ streak like dandy suggested a while ago but I would go insane

guess Cor lupus is now one of the flop countries, the Magic is just gone now </3

thanks kye for the results and good luck with the final! make sure you win and host again so that I can qualify in your contest this time

Ooooops at Cor Lupus DNQing again. This is kind of like when FSR Rontvia followed their still-record streak of 54 qualifiers with three straight DNQs. Or indeed when Cor Lupus themselves had 3 DNQs in 5 contests immediately before their long streak. The DNQs seem to clump together around these long streaks x

I've had four other DNQ streaks since that one too

I think they're quite common because DNQ'ing after a long Q streak can go a number of ways. You either think 'f*ck it, I've got nothing to lose now' and send something off the wall which you'd have never risked on a long q streak...but it ends up being too bizarre and also fails (a little bit like when I followed up Castle In The Snow with Dior or Dream with Sadziedami).

Or you send something great but niche in the hopes that it will 12 its way into the final with strong pockets of support, but that doesn't always work (like when I followed up Mary Keanes Introduction with Imali, but at least they both redeemed themselves in TBO that year *.*).

Or alternatively you maybe try too hard to get back into the final with a 'safe' sounding entry, which is in fact often something that plays it so safe that it doesn't stand out and DNQs because it fades into the background too much (like when I followed Du & Jeg with Bad Boys Cry).

It can mentally feel like a big climb back into the final somehow after a DNQ weirdly, even if it feels like you've got a big hit on your hands, off the back of two or three DNQs it's difficult to feel confident about it.

my revenge after a DNQ is that I comment even less :kink:

Yassssss Olivia getting her revenge! Overall really happy with the results - a lot of great songs through, so much pop!

it’s just hard to stay invested when you’re out of the final and then don’t get that extra fix of adrenaline from just being there. it’s like “now what”? you’re not a part of it and I’m probably gonna be in a jury vote so neither will my votes so why stay interested?

is this what it feels like to have a BJSC slump? aeroche can’t relate

Yeah that makes sense - some of my most niche entries have been ones that I sent immediately after a DNQ, usually after them being a potential for a while beforehand (Mikael Seifu, Saor and Heilung out of recent-ish examples). I try not to let my streak affect my entry choices too much but there is definitely a certain feeling of freeing when a streak ends and I know I can send something weird and risky and not worry about it ending the streak. As of yet, since my 3 DNQs in a row in BJSCs 54-56, I've always managed to bounce back from a DNQ but I know one of these days I will push the boat out too far with something a little too niche and the strategy will finally fail, I've been lucky xx

Remember your anniversary contest is 2 months away Cody hen xox
and I STILL haven’t picked a song for that yet :P

love that there’s so much pop in this contest. anyone would think i’d just disregarded all of your votes + put all the pop through :kink:

I've never won and I have more non qualifers than I do qualifiers and been a part on and off throughout. Just send what you truly love, and I enjoy people making genuine discoveries out of songs I really love that they wouldn't have necessary otherwise heard. It's nice to do well, but it's not the end all and be all of the contest.

While I do get that and occasionally feel that way myself after an entry I really like goes out, I always say that at least you can still discover some great music, and personally I find it better DNQing than painfully watching your surprise Q languishing in 38th the whole evening.

As for what I do in these situations, a DNQ is a good time to just leave a sound behind and try something new. It may not always work but you'd at least expand your horizons a bit and you may find some unexpected fans.
