December 15, 20204 yr I mean the fact the has been top 20 since it’s release and expected to rise to two more spots in #15 due to an recent sale and certified silver while in the holidays no less... it will sell well in the next year Single or not
December 15, 20204 yr mmm I wouldn't be so sure, their album is the kind that sells well in the pre-christmas run but after Xmas, if they don't push more singles from the album, it's gonna be difficult don't think they'll have another hit from the album, basically cos Spotify does not support post-album singlres but the label should keep releasing singles and sending them at least to R2 so that it generates some sales...
December 15, 20204 yr Again, “Thrill” sold very well with just one successful single and rest of the singles tanked, let’s see what happens in the new year, I have faith in Sam
December 15, 20204 yr things have changed though, it's 2020 now, you cannot compare with 3 years ago, it's a lifetime ago in terms of how the charts have changed to have continuous sales you need to do a Mabel and make a fake playlist/album
December 15, 20204 yr I think they should move on from this album now. I can't see there being another hit and it's clear Sam has already been thinking about the next record.
December 15, 20204 yr Its too soon to move on from the album and its holding up fairly ok, i think the album has a good few more sales left in it.
December 15, 20204 yr 'The Thrill of It All' was #4 on the streaming chart on its 6th week (with, as mentioned, just one hit), compared to #27 for 'Love Goes'. I don't think the album will suddenly start plummeting after Christmas (and I imagine it'll see a small rise on Valentine's Day and Mother's Day) but I'm not convinced it's going to stay afloat like it has so far. I can see why people think the album has done well but I do think it's been a big fall from grace that cannot solely be explained by the album market decrease. The album was expected to be one of the main selling albums this Q4, yet it's going to be nowhere near the Top 40 YEC.
December 15, 20204 yr The absolute high standard... I mean, it is Christmas and in the pandemic, it’s silver like Ariana (who’s album isn’t doing that either), Little Mix and Kylie, I honestly think it’s doing decently even the circumstances, It had hits, top 2 and already certified in a month span, what more do you want? The media has been coming for Sam more often, but I don’t think it’s an decline worth saying “fall from grace” when it’s literally ahead of Positions & Disco in the albums chart Edited December 15, 20204 yr by Yog
December 15, 20204 yr Yeh I forgot about ‘Positions’ it seems to have fallen away quite quickly! It’s literally at #26 nearing leaving the top 30 (keep in mind, is ahead in steaming and has an single in the top 5) while Love Goes hasn’t left the top 20 and projected to rise back up. But apparently Sam is the quintessential example of falling grace Edited December 15, 20204 yr by Yog
December 15, 20204 yr You say that as if people haven't also been calling Ariana's album an underperformance... :P This album has done ok but it's certainly a big step back from their last album which was itself a big step back from the first, commercially.
December 15, 20204 yr Ariana's album can't compete with the height of the physical selling period (especially with 0 vinyl format) when her fanbase is largely streaming oriented - she'll be back up there in the new year when Christmas is done and dusted :P
December 15, 20204 yr Right and Ari had two recent hit singles, her album shouldn’t be doing this bad, but Sam saying is falling from grace is kind of stretch IMO, Sam didn’t want to put out an album in the first place but it did it for the fans Edited December 15, 20204 yr by Yog
December 15, 20204 yr Ariana has never been a big physical seller like Sam so I'm not too surprised they are ahead at this stage, although like Bre says it's been noted that Ariana hasn't performed as expected either. This isn't an attack on Sam or anything, I've already said I can see why people think the album has been a success and, looking at the figures alone, it has been. When compared to their previous album however, it seems to me that the decline has been much steeper than being in line with the album market decline.
December 15, 20204 yr So, Sam is automatically supposed to beat all odds and straight up smash like their two album so deep into this pandemic, are you serious?
December 15, 20204 yr I didn’t mean this to be a Sam vs Ariana debate 😅! Yeh ‘Positions’ should be top 5 again when sales fall in January but it was a bit of an oversight not to release physicals such as vinyl more considering its Q4.
December 15, 20204 yr You seem to be taking this much more seriously than it needs to be. It's just a general observation I've made. The pandemic has affected the whole album market, yes, but that wouldn't have any bearing on individual positions. I think it was expected that Sam could achieve a consistent run in the Top 10 at least, plus those first week sales weren't great, pandemic or no pandemic. I do think the album has done well to level out in the Top 20 considering its initial performance, although it remains to be seen if it can keep it up outside the Christmas market.
December 15, 20204 yr I’m just saying don’t make it sound like Sam is doing really bad compared to their peers (I mean look at Shawn Mendes tank album) when their clearly not, The era was utter mess since 2019, remember we’re supposed to get the album in July when it got delayed with only ONE month of preorder for the relaunch and I’m surprised it’s doing this well even with the circumstances Edited December 16, 20204 yr by Yog
