March 3, 20205 yr Results 50. Alvin Stardust - My Coo Ca Choo 46 pts Stopped by : Gary Glitter - I Love You Love Me Love Top points - Achabaan 23,Suedehead 10,AH Gold 8 Born as Bernard Jewry,Alvin already had six hit singles under his belt from 1961-62 under the name Shane Fenton and the Fentones with none of them charting any higher than number 19. 'My Coo Ca Choo' from 1973 was actually sung by its writer Peter Shelley under the name Alvin Stardust but when it became a hit he decided he didn't want to be known under that name so he got Shane Fenton to lip sync the song on television. Shane (the new Alvin Stardust) did sing the vocals on his subsequent records. Peter Shelley went on to have two top 5 hits under his own name with 'Gee Baby' and 'Love Me Love My Dog'. One of Alvin Stardust's sons is Adam F whose top 20 single from 1997,'Circles',was not so long ago entered by Jade into the BJSC Another son is head teacher at Reigate Grammar School - a school whose former pupils (under different head teachers) include David Walliams, Norman Cook, Keir Starmer and my brother. The last three were all there at the same time.
