But the way, a small official Spotify Playlist with Alicia Keys, Travis and more. Melanie on the cover:

I think the user is talking about this playlist. It's amazing to see her at the top

I can't post a link because I'm a newbie. The playlist is called: The Gold List

No offense but that playlist is lame. It has like 2,000 listeners to it and it does sod all. I think it's really bad cos it's used as an excuse for Spotify not including acts like Melanie and Kylie in their main playlists...

Totally agree but it's still great to see her somewhere on Spotify lol.

Thank you :D

It’s unfortunate that it’ll have minimal impact, but I suppose every little helps

Melanie is the guest on Jools Holland on November 6th! From previous episodes, there will be about 25 mins of interview with her.

FINALLY!! Does this mean she wont perform though? But good that she has that interview lined up anyway :w00t:

I think people are being a bit harsh to Sammy in here tbh, at no point does he say that "Melanie should give up recording" or "Melanie hasn't made any improvement" simply that the bulk of her sales come from physical sales and if she wants to keep selling she needs to be promoted by radio 2 to keep those album sales ticking along. A lot of people are putting words into his mouth in this thread.
She isn't and won't ever be a streaming artist. 1.2m monthly listeners is low, very very low. Her fanbase does stream her music it is just to make any impact on streaming the general public need to be streaming your music or you need a massive fan Base.

Melanie C will always sell more cds than get streaming sales and her best way to get casual sales of cds is for airplay from radio 2.

I never said she will be a streaming artist, but she has to try and adapt with the times in order to grow her fan base. Relying on Radio 2 airplay to get a few casual album sales is not a sustainable strategy in 2020. Selling 10,000 - 12,000 copies in total of an album is nothing.

Especially when you're an independent artist who has to pay for everything out of your own pocket. The bottom line is Melanie is not going to grow her fan base by using old music industry strategies from the 90's.

This harsh truth tho...

I don't think there's much she can do at this point. I'm sure she's okay with the position she's in her career right now. It's a privilige to have a moderate solo career and be a part of something legendary. I'm sure this has been disscussed and stated millions times before but yeah, she's super lucky to have this kinda dedicated fan base.

Exactly she is pushing 50 and they have done a similar album release strategy to say Little Mix.

4 pre album videos/singles was a complete waste imo, the album should have gone up for pre-order when Who I am was released and released when BIOM was released. I'm sure she would have still scored a top 10 due to the million formats and then would have had the radio 2 airplay of IAOOL and Overload (both with videos, Fearless should never have even made the album). Then her biggest promotion to the demographic who buy cd albums would be at full use to try and sell more albums after the initial fan purchases on release week.

Jay has posted showing that radio 2 drop her singles from being played the moment they leave the playlist so those singles exposure and airplay really needs to coincide with the album being for sale.

For anyone wondering, I contacted the Mel C Online Store for a replacement - apparently I'll be sent another violet signed vinyl. I won't jump the gun until I see it in my hands!

Self Love has suddenly REALLY clicked with me, think this would be a great single now with the deluxe album being sent to supermarkets and put on Spotify!

Ah lovely, such a shame it wasn't this week to try help keep the album in the top 200, but every sale helps at this stage and this will help to push more sales of the album.

So she is on Jools Holland but not performing? I'm confused does he do interviews now?

He has always done interviews in his programmes.

I have to confess I've never watched his show all through just the odd performance from it on YouTube. I thought he just had people on to sing.
