'Ray Of Light' is based on a song from 1971 called 'Sepheryn' by the English folk music duo Curtiss Maldoon. Clive Maldoon's niece,Christine Leach,recorded her version of the song in 1996. Later on,it was combined with William Orbit's backing track. Madonna took a liking to the demo after hearing it and recorded her version with William Orbit producing.

This song actually tied with 'The Joker' in the first of its two weeks at number 2 but the rule at the time was that the single with the biggest increase in sales would be given the higher chart position. It features contributions from Bootsy Collins and Q-Tip and samples from 'Bring Down The Birds' by Herbie Hancock and 'Get Up' by Vernon Burch. Deee-Lite had only one more top 40 single.

 

Classic! One of the best songs of the early 90s.

Pompeii is the epitome of a modern anthem.

 

Groove Is In The Heart is a big tune but not one of my 90s faves. Much prefer The Joker so glad the coin landed on its side.

Omg I thought Mark Ronson's other #2 was Stop Me. :( But I do like NBLAH so it isn't a travesty. :lol: Pompeii is ridiculously high!! But then I never loved the song lol. Can't wait to see what is left.

Ray Of Light - it's never been one of my favourite Madonna songs but I get why people love it.

Pompeii - probably the best song in the Top 20 so far :wub:

 

Agreed that NBLAH is a bit too high, it's a great song but there's a few classics that should have finished above it.
