Let It Be was the last Beatles single to be released before Paul McCartney announced he was leaving the group. The song would eventually be a no.1 single for Ferry Aid (which included McCartney) in 1987,raising money for victims of the Zeebrugge ferry disaster.

From 1984,the song that relaunched Queen after their badly received change of musical direction on their 1982 album 'Hot Space'. Roger Taylor wrote the song after hearing his 3 year old son utter the words "radio ca ca" after hearing a song he didn't like played on the radio.

Suzanne Vega originally wrote 'Tom's Diner' in 1982 based on her times sitting in Tom's Restaurant in New York. Released as a single in 1987,it only got to number 58. This 1990 remix by Nick Batt and Neal Slateford uses the bassline from Keep On Movin' by Soul II Soul.

Pleasantly surprised to see Kylie with 3 songs in the top 50! I was convinced she would have lost at least one by now. (Unless I've missed it.)

This was voted as the UK's favourite no.2 single in a 2012 poll run by Radio 2 and the Official Charts Company and it is my personal favourite but the good folk of Buzzjack have found 46 no.2 singles that are better than this one. It was memorably kept off the top of the chart by a novelty song as well as the death of John Lennon but the blame here really goes to the record company,Chrysalis. The Vienna album was released six months earlier and they decided to release 'Sleepwalk' and 'Passing Strangers' as the first two singles which charted at no.29 and no.57 respectively. They considered 'Vienna',the song,to be too slow and long and it was only put out as a single after the band insisted on its release.

Steve Winwood's original version of this song reached number 13 in the UK in 1986 but it was an American number 1 and won a Grammy award for Record Of The Year. Whitney Houston's cover version was a bonus track on the Japanese edition of her 1990 album 'I'm Your Baby Tonight'. Norwegian producer Kygo's rework of her recording spent nine weeks in the top 40 last year before reaching its chart peak.

'Higher Love' being higher than some of these classics makes me feel slightly ill x

Lol tell me about it! I like HL but I feel like it - and probably many other newer songs - has an advantage over the golden oldies.

The title track from Katy Perry's third album. It was her eighth top 40 single.

For someone who's a massive PSB fan, 'What Have I Done To Deserve This' isn't one of my favourites and it certainly shouldn't have finished higher than 'Go West'.

Agreed that 'Higher Love' shouldn't be above so many classics either but more recent songs have the advantage of still being in people's minds.

'Let It Be' should have finished much higher, that's easily one of the defining Beatles songs.

I really like Higher Love and I'm glad it's finished in the top 50 but I was hoping Vienna would finish higher!

'Higher Love' being ahead of 'Vienna' is the definition of :deadbanana:

However, that's not a bad result for 'Vienna' really compared again to the rest of the results.

Higher Love should have been much higher imo.

Well, some people like only old classics but they don't like Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston is classic now in 2020.

They can't tell this is another lazy remix/cover version of an old hit. Kygo's production is brilliant. It is practically a new song. Also only Whitney's fanatic fans knew her rendition of Higher Love before this Kygo remix of it.
