Posted April 9, 20205 yr we'll be counting down all of Rachel and friends' singles from least to most successful in the chart, based on points. :cheer: Then don't forget afterwards to take part in the Rate of them all.
April 10, 20205 yr Author #21-27 RgF-gLM1vUU 21 11 08 S Club 8 – Don't Tell Me You're Sorry 4.5342 22 10 08 Rachel Stevens – So Good 4.1669 23 10 07 Rachel Stevens – Negotiate With Love 3.9768 24 19 07 I Dream – Dreaming (feat. Frankie & Calvin) 3.5201 25 12 08 Rachel Stevens – I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) 3.4825 26 13 06 Jo O'Meara – What Hurts The Most 3.4615 27 26 04 Rachel Stevens – Funky Dory 2.3600 Starting with the least successful of the lot - right at the bottom is 'Funky Dory' - the title track of Rachel Stevens' debut which only managed to spend one week top 40. Jo O'Meara's attempt at a solo career finishes 2nd-from-last, it was her only hit single and the album that followed bombed. Cascada would later cover the song and make it a bigger hit (note: the Jo version was also a cover). A few more Rachel tracks appear from her 2nd album where she was declining in popularity, alongside the sole I Dream hit and S Club 8's final chart hit.
April 10, 20205 yr Author #16-20 pRgI9cV71uY 16 02 13 S Club Juniors – New Direction 8.4176 17 04 14 S Club 8 – Sundown 6.8046 18 06 13 S Club Juniors – Puppy Love/Sleigh Ride 6.5067 19 03 11 Rachel Stevens – More More More 6.1394 20 04 11 S Club 8 – Fool No More 5.8860 A handful more S Club Juniors/8 tracks drop out including their third #2 hit plus the rest of their output as S Club 8 and the Christmas double A. Rachel Stevens' cover of 'More More More' also leaves at this stage (originally a disco hit by Andrea True Connection).
April 10, 20205 yr Author #11-15 L173wbF4g4c 11 02 13 Rachel Stevens – Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex 9.4114 12 02 11 S Club 7 – Two In A Million/You're My Number One 9.4015 13 05 19 S Club – Alive 9.2330 14 03 17 S Club 7 – Natural 9.0608 15 02 12 S Club – Say Goodbye/Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You 8.6350 S Club's final release, the double A goodbye single, ends up being their least successful single here. I guess that means it was the best time for them to call it a day? At least they left on somewhat of a high with it going to #2 and the GH album selling well. 'Alive' which led their least successful studio album also appears alongside 'Natural' which had the tough task of following up 'Reach', alongside their other double A which was their third release, and final of the 90s. Unfortunately for Rachel her debut solo single/Britney reject just misses this top 10 - I'm surprised, I thought it was a bit bigger. She does have one more track in the running however.
April 10, 20205 yr It's a travesty Fool No More is so low. It was pretty big over here and it's one of those songs I instantly recognise from childhood <3
April 10, 20205 yr Poor Funky Dory  Quite glad to see Natural fairly high, shame it missed the top ten though
April 10, 20205 yr Author #6-10 0QksO6P3Jgg 6 01 15 S Club 7 – Have You Ever 12.1590 7 02 18 S Club 7 – You 10.0989 8 02 14 S Club 7 – S Club Party 10.0870 9 02 13 Rachel Stevens – Some Girls 9.8276 10 02 16 S Club Juniors – Automatic High 9.6018 The 2nd-biggest track (as well as their 2nd release) for S Club Juniors commences the top 10 - they have one track remaining in the top five. Rachel's biggest single by the points metric turns out to be 'Some Girls', her 2nd and final #2 hit. Two other #2s from S Club 7 are also here including their second release 'S Club Party' which was surprisingly outperformed by 'You' despite being better remembered by some way now. 'Have You Ever' was their 4th and final #1, and also their least successful of those with the other three still to come. Top 5 A-Z: Bring It All Back Don't Stop Movin' One Step Closer Never Had A Dream Come True Reach
April 10, 20205 yr Author #5 GLQ0biK-ZgA 5 01 16 S Club 7 – Bring It All Back 12.5131 The group's debut single and theme to their TV show Miami 7, which entered straight at the top beating competition from Madonna with Beautiful Stranger and kicking off Baz Luhrmann's sunscreen song. It's one of their best remembered still and has the most streams of any of their songs on Spotify with 52 million. It sold 675k in the UK and is also platinum certified in Australia and New Zealand.
April 10, 20205 yr Author #4 I-s4ykK2Tgs 4 02 18 S Club Juniors – One Step Closer 12.5237 Surprisingly the S Club 7 debut is outperformed here by the debut of S Club Juniors by this metric. It missed out on #1 selling 73k to Sugababes 'Freak Like Me's 85k, and held on to #2 the following week when Holly Valance debuted at #1 with Kiss Kiss. It eventually went on to sell 250k. The group were formed on a reality show called S Club Search and two of the members in Frankie & Rochelle went on to be part of The Saturdays.
April 10, 20205 yr Author #3 50kP4S0peAs 3 02 18 S Club 7 – Reach 14.6819 One of the group's most recognisable hits, but not one of their #1s despite selling 124k first week, as it had the unfortunate timing of being released on the same week as Sonique's 'It Feels So Good', and spent 3 weeks at #2 behind it. It eventually sold over 600k. It also recently got a boost in the iTunes chart as people were being encouraged to dance to it on their doorstep during Lockdown.
April 10, 20205 yr Author #2 WB9_sf6oV1o 2 01 25 S Club 7 – Never Had A Dream Come True 14.8738 After a string of top three hits, S Club 7 finally got their 2nd #1 with this winter ballad, helped by it being the official BBC Children in Need song for 2000. It was also their only single to crossover to America where it peaked at #10. In the UK it was the 9th best selling single of the year with over 600k sold.
April 10, 20205 yr yasss Don't Stop Movin' is rightfully #1! Another HUGE song over here I remember very fondly.
April 10, 20205 yr Author #1 vm262cXxRrU 1 01 23 S Club 7 – Don't Stop Movin' 18.3157 It isn't even close here as 'Don't Stop Movin' leads by nearly 4 whole points. The single was their third #1, managing 2 weeks with its second being a return to #1 - dislodging Geri Halliwell 'It's Raining Men' which had kicked it off for 2 weeks. It became their biggest selling single with over 800k sold, being the 7th biggest seller of the year, and was double platinum certified in Australia. It also gave Michael Jackson another #1 if you count writing credits, as the bassline samples that of 'Billie Jean'. As my personal favourite of theirs I'm pleased this is easily #1 anyhow. April 10, 20205 yr Honestly wouldn't have expected anything different tbh. Don't Stop Movin' was massive back then! I'm kinda surprised Never Had A Dream Come True is above Reach though
April 10, 20205 yr No huge shocks! Of course Funky Dory had to be last :( comfortably the lowest charting S Club-related single and that's a massive shame. Interesting to see Two in a Million and S Club Party below You! Thanks so much for this Dan!!!
April 13, 20205 yr Unfortunately for Rachel her debut solo single/Britney reject just misses this top 10 - I'm surprised, I thought it was a bit bigger. She does have one more track in the running however. I recall that the physical of 'Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex' was deleted, which explains its rather swift descent in the chart after a strong opening month. Had they not done that I'm sure it would have held up better, but I think it was a label tactic to drive sales towards the album... which arguably didn't work considering Funky Dory had a bit of an underwhelming chart run. #4 4 02 18 S Club Juniors – One Step Closer 12.5237 It missed out on #1 selling 73k to Sugababes 'Freak Like Me's 85k It was actually a lot closer than that! :o According to the Music Week report from the time: "A keen fought battle for chart honours this week finished with the Sugababes' Freak Like Me narrowly retaining its early advantage over S Club Juniors' debut hit. Sugababes Freak Like Me eventually sold nearly 85,500 copies, about 1,000 more than their rivals' One Step Closer" http://scans.chartarchive.org/UK/2002/UK%2...02002.05.04.pdf It's interesting to see that One Step Closer had a better chart run than a lot of S Club 7 singles! Don't Stop Movin' is a great #1, such an impressive chart run and sales. Thanks for hosting this, Dan!
April 13, 20205 yr Author I wasn't sure what was true as Wiki gave two conflicting statements - the S Club Juniors/8 page had them selling 73k (vs 85k) but the page for the song had them as being separated by 1k, so just had to take a guess.
