27 years, blimey! I remember getting the album with my Christmas money the year it came out, first album I ever brought 😍

Where does the time go?

Christmas 1999, I got this along with

Steps - Steptacular

B*Witched - Awake & Breathe

Geri Halliwell - Schizophonic

Lolly - My First Album

My sister also bought me Pokemon: The First Movie Soundtrack for Christmas that year.

What a Christmas! What memories!

Here's my track by track review of their debut album (I've also done one for 'Seeing Double' in the justice for 'SD' thread)

1. Bring It All Back – 10/10

The band’s debut single and what a way to kick off the album with this undeniably catchy pop anthem. Driven by a bouncy bass arrangement, highly infectious melodies and a euphoric chorus that shines bright and perfectly setting the tone for not only this album, but for their entire sparkling careers.

2. You’re Ny Number One – 9/10

Featuring a fun retro 60’s pastiche sound, swinging rhythms and a joyful chorus that soars above the entire production. Incredibly charming, sweet, catchy and wholesome. A fun pop song that highlights their vocal harmonies effectively well.

3. Two in a Million – 10/10

A stunningly mellow and glowing mid-tempo pop ballad that showcases a lighter and more vulnerable side of the group. Awash with shimmering orchestral-tinged production and melodies that glide effortlessly throughout Jo’s stunning lead vocal. One of their most beautiful and underrated ballads of their careers.

4. S Club Party – 10/10

One of their many signature hits that not only acts as an introduction to the group, but it is also a brilliant pop song and a banging party anthem to boot. With its energetic production, addictive beats and catchy hooks this is an undeniable pop masterpiece for the ages.

5. Everybody Wants Ya – 6/10

This does feel a little generic when compared to the first 4 tracks, but it’s likeable and catchy enough to keep the momentum going. A fun and cute little album filler moment.

6. Viva La Fiesta – 7/10

A campy and upbeat moment on the album packed with energetic acoustic guitars, horns, party chants and a fun Latin pop flavour that feels very much of its time.

7. Gonna Change the World – 8/10

A warm and nice mid-tempo offering that gives the boys a time to shine vocally. Fuelled by an uplifting gospel inspired production and acoustic guitars, this offers a nice change of pace for the album.

8. I Really Miss You – 8/10

Another nice ballad where this time it’s led by the girls’ vocals. A pleasant and well produced track with tight harmonies and a gentle swaying sound.

9. Friday Night – 9/10

Fun, bouncy and brimming with energy. This is a solid standout moment on here that benefits from slick beats, funky disco bassline and catchy grooves.

10. It’s a Feel-Good Thing – 7/10

A Hyper-energetic and fast paced bubblegum pop song that’s brimming with joy and life. Not groundbreaking in the least, but it’s a nice moment that injects some life into the latter half of the album.

11. Hope for the Future – 8/10

This is a stunning album closer with a nice slow build to a dramatic chorus and theatrical melodies wrapped in gorgeous strings. This acts perfectly as an album closer and a curtain call to their first era.
