April 12, 20205 yr I remember seeing the Weakest Link for the first time and being taken aback about how rude Anne was to the contestants! My friend from school appeared on it in about 2012. He got voted out in a round where he was the strongest link.
April 12, 20205 yr Omg I forgot how annoyed I got when they didn't bank when they had like 5 seconds left and definitely couldn't answer the final question.I remember seeing the Weakest Link for the first time and being taken aback about how rude Anne was to the contestants! My friend from school appeared on it in about 2012. He got voted out in a round where he was the strongest link. She's so savage, even the condescending tone when telling them the correct answer when they get one wrong. Or the dismissal in the classic "you are the weakest link, goodbye". It's weird watching an early one, in the 2001 one I posted she breaks character and laughs at something one of them says at one point. Also Belgium had franks. :o Gutting, victim of tactics. :(
April 13, 20205 yr LOST (2004-2010) Lost was an absolute phenomenon and helped to change the landscape of TV. It followed a huge ensemble cast who were survivors of an airplane crash on a mysterious island. We are first introduced to the cast in the immediate aftermath of the crash in the most expensive pilot at that time (the cost caused someone to be sacked I think??). The cast have to work together to survive but they know nothing of each other's past. The viewer is instead allowed a glimpse into their pasts through flashbacks, each character having their own set of flashbacks in each episode. This wasn't the only selling point of the show as there is a whole mythology around it, rarely seen on network TV before. Viewers examined every tiny bit as to clues as to what the island was and the secrets behind it. Mysteries included the Smoke Monster, random polar bears, 4 8 15 16 23 42, a mysterious hatch in the ground and another group called The Others. In Season 2, the group have opened up the hatch which requires a programme to be activated every 108 minutes. The reason is said to be to prevent a catastrophic event from occurring. Over the remaining seasons, we discover more about the Others and the end of Season 3 suffers an absolute game-changing twist (one of the best in any TV series!). From there on in, it's relentless and continues to open up the world and the possibilities wider than ever until we reach a controversial final episode. However, it's not about the endgame (contrary to what people may think) but the journey of the characters and the way that the series drew you in with all its mysteries. Many shows tried to replicate the success afterwards but nothing has never really had the same cultural impact! vX1Q2zIgwOY  Thinking about this show makes me emotional. It's what started my love for film and tv. I was scarily obsessed with it, as were my whole family. On 2 separate TVs I would record the episode live when it moved to Sky and my aunt and neighbour would collect the VHSs on Sunday night at 10pm after the episode aired so they could watch it straight after. They don't capture audiences like this anymore. Also this tweet: @1247577841174102016
April 13, 20205 yr vrDsWfXn4VY DUN DUN DUN DUN. A CLASSIC. The theme tune. The SAVAGERY. The questions. The TACTICAL VOTING. Non stop drama on the best mildly trashy quiz show to ever exist. Had a phase of watching it more of less every day after school at one point. Peak 5pm weekday. First one to break the banking chain is WEAK. Banking too early in the nice easy early rounds is WEAKER, shows you have no confidence in your ability to answer questions. IT MULTIPLIES, much better to wait for a bigger bank. Not getting £1000 in the first round is a massive failure. :o But being too arrogant to bank for safety in the more difficult later rounds is even worse. :o :o :o Omg this bitch was such a coldhearted savage as well. :cheeseblock: The tactics in this are amazing. Do you increase your chances of winning by voting out the strong ones? Do you increase the prize bij keeping them a lil' longer?
April 13, 20205 yr Author I feel I was too young to appreciate the series when it first aired so even though my dad was watching it, I'm glad I didn't watch along with him. I watched all the derivative shows that followed though like The Event and Flashforward oops. I think I did my watch of Lost a year or so after it ended and it's definitely something I want to rewatch in time!
April 13, 20205 yr the weakest link was amazing! probably still one of my favourite quiz shows just for how brutal it was  I’ve also never seen lost! I might finally get round to watching it in lockdown
April 13, 20205 yr What got me the first time was Anne telling the runner up your leave with nothing!’ Almost gloating!
April 13, 20205 yr Author LITTLE BRITAIN (2003-2005) One of the most memorable comedies of the decade was Little Britain which is looked back still with love by some and also dislike for others due to some of the more racist characters. It ran for three TV series, some specials as well as one US TV series. The show was narrated by Tom Baker and starred Matt Lucas and David Walliams, helping to propel them to the success they see today. Some of the notable characters/sketches included Lou and Andy (Andy was in a wheelchair and got his carer to do everything for him despite Andy's ability to do stuff himself), Vicky Pollard (a paradoy of chavs with the catchphrase 'yeah but no but yeah but no..'), Dafydd Thomas (the only gay in the village), Marjorie Dawes (a woman running a branch of Fat Fighters who is rude to its members), the one that computer says no and Emily Howard (with the catchphrase 'I'm a lady' - yeh it feels a bit odd, writing in today's climate!!). It recently returned for a Brexit-themed radio episode and there were talks about it returning for a full series (not sure if radio or TV). Walliams and Lucas have spoken about their regret over some of the characters and the changes they would make if it were to return today. rxCPj40eFNc
April 13, 20205 yr Author THE CATHERINE TATE SHOW (2004-2007) The Catherine Tate Show was a sketch show that ran for three series. It success has spun off full-length episodes for Nan from 2009-2015, who will also star in her own feature film coming this year (?) as well as a stage show that ran a couple of years ago as well as many Comic Relief sketches, including one with actual Prime Minister Tony Blair! The most memorable characters include Lauren Cooper ('am I bovvered'), Nan (a foul-mouthed grandmother), Derek (Gay dear? Me dear? No dear?), Ally (has to dig herself out of holes), Bernie (vulgar nurse), Paul and Sam (telling stories of their mundane life). I absolutely loved this series and it's one of those rare sketch shows where nearly sketch can make you laugh out loud. We've seen that Catherine can be a stellar series actress but I'd love to see her flex her comedy skills even more. QNKn5ykP9PU WvukPc2fIX8
April 13, 20205 yr omg the catherine tate show!!!!! i want to go and rewatch that now. random clips pop up on my FB all the time and it still cracks me up
April 13, 20205 yr Goodness Gracious Me is my favourite of the British sketch show world but it's one for the 90s. Could never get into Little Britain ~
April 13, 20205 yr Little Britain has most definitely NOT aged well at all, Catherine Tate was by far and away the best of that flood of mid 00s sketch shows which we've (I would argue thankfully) left behind - these characters were my highlight! YUNssEtAwr8
April 13, 20205 yr Author we’re in.... TOTTENHAM OMG I FORGOT ABOUT GOOSEBERRY AND CINNAMON YOGHURTS. That is actually my favourite sketch from the show
April 13, 20205 yr Omg the gooseberry and cinnamon yogurt sketch Haha I love that one so much I remember we used to play that a lot on plug
April 13, 20205 yr Fergus, would you like a gooseberry and cinnamon yoghurt? The Catherine Tate Show is just true comedy genius  (besides Nan, I've never found that to be one of the best sketches, and most of them annoy me for how long they go on compared to others, oops) Little Britain, I don't find myself enjoying that as much as I used to when I first watched it, but it still has its golden nuggets, but not because the comedy isn't suited to where we are in the world now. It's just, once you've seen it once, twice or three times it gets old. The Weakest Link is amazing too, I sometimes find myself watching episodes of that on YouTube when I'm bored. I used to watch it with my grandparents whenever I was at their house and Anne Robinson is just such a savage.
April 13, 20205 yr Without the weakest link we would never have had this incredible moment zQdnqahSEX4 And it's disappeared from YouTube but I swear there was also a drag queen special featuring a lot of end of the pier/old school queens and it was the campest thing ever!

I enevr would've guessed that question as horoscope lmaooooo
April 13, 20205 yr It was worded pretty confusingly tbh! That moment never fails to make me howl though
April 13, 20205 yr Author GAVIN & STACEY (2007-2010) Gavin & Stacey was a sitcom written by James Corden and Ruth Jones about two families, one from Essex and one from Wales. The two combine as Gavin & Stacy start dating, starting a relationship, getting engaged, moving in together and reach other relationship milestones. The two are actually the least funny of the series though as its all about the supporting characters and particularly Pam who has become a quotable meme many years later! 'it's the drama, i just love it'. It's a clash of the two families who, along the way, become one big family. There's a lot of heart to the show which has helped contribute to its success. It started off on BBC Three and was ignored on the first showing. It wasn't until a repeat that it managed to grow in popularity and, with its third series, aired on BBC One. It returned for a Christmas special in 2019 where it was the most viewed non-sporting event of the 2010s! Just don't mention what happened on the fishing trip! 6tZT0Ekse7E
