This round we say goodbye to Band Aid 20 and their - in my opinion - redundant cover of DTKIC? I get that Bob Geldof and co wanted to commemorate 20 years since the huge success of the original with a new generation of artists but maybe the idea was more appealing than the result? On a side-note, I wonder what a Band Aid 25 would've sounded like if one was released in 2009..?

(I couldn't find a BA20 gif so here's a more fondly remembered Christmas moment from 2004 :gaycat:)

Definitely Evergreen - Hallelujah is in the top 3 here!

I've chosen Amarillo. I remember being annoyed by it being everywhere back in 2005 and time has not erased this feeling. Also these days I can't help thinking of a certain Jimmy whenever I hear the song. :puke:

Shocked to see Hallelujah at risk this early on. :o

I’ve gone for Amarillo. It’s fine and all but not really a 00s classic being originally released MUCH earlier!
Amarillo.

Can someone tell me why that song was the best selling song of 2005?!!

It was re-released as a Charity Single for Comic Relief and was fronted by Peter Kay who was basically the most famous comedian in the UK at the time.

Evergreen reached the dizzying heights of 64 in my personal charts of the time. Will's later stuff is way better.

Amarillo went top 20 back in 1971 top 10 in 2005 for me. Still a pub karaoke regular and Evergreen, errrr, isn't.

So Evergreen then :)

Will someone please join me on the "Crazy" train soon, it's such an awful, screechy vocal :drama:

But it's the best song here

time for me to go over to the Will Young duo.

Amarillo.

As well as Sandra's comment there weren't really any huge mammoth singles in 2005. Basically all 1-week #1s until Amarillos 7. You're Beautiful & Axel F afterwards were big but nowhere near as much.
