It's wild that this album was the best selling album in USA 1997. Sometimes, one needs a reminder of how huge they were! It's crazy!

Just like the Greatest Hits, it looks like Spice25 is getting a repress in June! https://shop.universalmusic.it/products/spice-girls-spice-25th-anniversary-box-doppio-cd

That pretty much sums up HMV pricing, online it is £17.99 as well, 3 different prices for the same product.

I can’t be sure but I think there was another copy for that price as well

Today's date (8th July) marks 24 years since the UK release of 'Wannabe' :cheer:

Crazy that it's almost quarter of a century old. Well I guess it is as it was recorded in 1995.

Crazy indeed! Who would have thought 24 years ago that it would become one of the most iconic pop songs ever?

Forever an iconic song, video, era!

Wannabe is definitely a genius song, that came to define a moment in pop culture that marked a distinctive shift towards more progressive understandings of what pop music might have been. It literally defined the decade, and its impact in mainstream culture and understandings of modern (at the time) feminism, are undeniable.

Not many musicians can genuinely say they changed the cultural conversation even beyond its chart success. They can. Wannabe is partly responsible for that, and many many millions of young women, LGBTQ+ and working class communities felt they had a voice for the first time in a long time. They grew up with it and its inclusive message.

No-one can take that from them!

Forever an iconic song, video, era!

Reading this almost made me emotional! The impact these five girls (back then) have had is still incredible.

I remember listening to all of the radio stations in 2016 and all the stuff online to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Can’t quite believe Wannabe will be 25 next July 😯

It’s been 24 years since the release of Say You’ll Be There!

This was such an important song in their career, proving that they weren’t going to be a one hit wonder. This single selling over 300,000 copies first week in the UK was truly phenomenal! At the time it felt like a very cool song to like (and I think it holds up very well today). It has one of their very best music videos too. All in all, a triumph! (The only aspect of this release I’m less keen on is the artwork... a great picture, but I dislike the sepia filter.

I agree that 'Say You'll Be There' is one of their best music videos... in fact probably my overall favourite! They took the concept of those fun characters and really ran with it. The song is one of their best too. The weak link is certainly the artwork as you say :kink: I remember owning it as a poster (I think it came with the cardboard packaged single or something?) but never actually put it on my wall, a giant Pepsi poster of the girls got that honour instead!
Best song , video and b side !!!

For me, their best single ever! What an iconic second single, that really cemented them as a group worth investing in and not just a one-hit wonder.

It was a really clever move of them to go with this one and I am so glad.

Personally, the only fault is that they have never really been able to match the magic of it live, in my opinion. It always lacks something, for me. Last year's take was ok, I guess, and also Istanbul. But it never lives up to the magic of the studio recording and the video...

Every week on Jo Whiley's show on Radio 2 she picks a vinyl and plays songs from it and this week she has gone with Spice!

Wannabe was played tonight, another 3 tracks to come this week

Ooh that's cool! Nice for Spice to get some exposure on Radio 2, just in time for its 24th anniversary.

'Spice' was released 24 years ago today in the UK (and I assume elsewhere in Europe too?) [i only specify this because Japan got it early on 19th September 1996]

Only 1 year to go until 'Spice' is a quarter of a century old :drama: ... although as we know, Spice was worked on in 1995, so the songs are technically that old already!

What a classic and phenomenal album

Let's celebrate 24 years of Spice! :cheer:
