W.O.M.A.N needed a little refinement with its lyrics, but it is a big party bop up there with Spice Up Your Life! If Geri had still been with them, the lyrics would have been so, so much better, and it would have been a Spice classic. There would have been no g-strings in Geri's version.

Forever was the only Spice Girls album I bought, whereas for most it was the only Spice Girls album they didn't buy!!

No, it would have 'just like an apple cut down the middle' or some other incredibly cringe 'word play'.

The fact that fans consistently paint Geri as the one who could write lyrics or was 'the driving creative force' always makes me laugh. First of all, Geri has a knack for terrible lyrics. Her solo career proves that, through and through. Sound-wise, she was clearly trying to replicate the Spice Girls one in her first album.

Once she deviated from that, she was just naff and corny, as seen on her subsequent albums.

Forever is really well produced and written. The only 'iffy' song in there, lyrics wise, is Let Love Lead The Way where the lyrics are a bit too on the nose and not really well developed. Apart from that, the lyrics across the album are TOP NOTCH! Just because they dont have a 'zig-a-zig-ah' or similar, doesnt mean they are not well done.

Which for me is what the leaked demos are lacking mostly - good lyrics. Pain Proof was ok lyrically but still undercooked. Same with WOMAN and A Day in Your Life. Ultimately if they were to be released, they needed better lyrics.

Geri's solo output, lyrically, is at the level of the demos. The whole 'word play' you guys keep banging on about worked within the group because it was mixed with other talents/lyrical style'. Outside of the group? Not so good or clever at all.

And they were not 'lost' because of Geri leaving. They clearly were on a path to create great music and tehy did. They just did it differently without Geri, that's all.

Artists have to develop and try out new things. This is why, to me, it was so frustrating how they just left the album die. They should have committed to it and make it work. The legacy would have been even better!

This again!!!

The lyric IS, "and I won't energise". Look at her in the wind tunnel, refusing to beam up to the ship. It is a futuristic pyramid, after all, and there is a mothership spaceship out there above the pyramid. They enter for their trials of love/ fantasy games, but refuse to teleport away. This makes it only one of TWO songs to reference Star Trek to make the charts, and also just one of TWO Star-Trek referencing songs to hit no.1 as well. What other pop band could eeever get away with a Star Trek reference?? It also works to humanise their most otherworldly, mysterious character, the Posh, as she relates to Saturday night tv. It was a genius lyric if you look at it in the context of the futuristic video, the song, the person who sings it, plus the context of the time, which was all about technology and futurism at the turn of the 12th millennium.

Well, I am so sorry for underminding Posh's talent. You are totally right, hun! :yahoo:

You should write this on Spice Circle. It will go down an absolute storm and maybe FINALLY the fandom can rest

It literally proves she was the driving force when her first two albums and Rid It literally sound like Spice records and have very similar lyrics... Meanwhile, Forever ended up as one of the worst albums in history without her.

Also, who is Geri WAP??? LOOOOOOVE the name!!!

Now Geri is easily my least favourite Spice Girl however, I totally disagree with this. I think it's quite clear that Geri was heavily involved with the song writing if only because it has been said by the girls co-writers and producers that she often came up with lyrics and melodies... She is the only girl that this has been said about none of the others have ever been singled out for it. Of course it was a combination of flavours in the overall songs however it's pretty obvious from that alone that Geri played the biggest role in creating their songs.

I also disagree with the solo lyrics being all demo quality and cringe. Yes she has her moments, however there are plenty of lyrics that are very akin to the likes of Who do you think you are, 2 become 1, Viva forever, Do it, Saturday night divas etc.

I do agree they weren't lost when she left, they were lost as a group because none of them cared enough anymore... however that doesn't show through in the songs at all it was simply a change of style.

People complaining about What You Want being crap because it "rips off" Five's sound, yet praise the songs on Forever that rips off TLC and Destiny's Child. I can't..............

THIS!!! At least they were accomplished pop vocalists, too. They sound dull and dire on rnb tracks.

Please, this Halliwell revisionism is not it.

The only person who bangs on about Geri Halliwell is Geri Halliwell herself. Of course she was an integral part but you guys talk like she was the only one who ever wrote anything.

Both Mel C and Emma have often said how much they contributed to the song writing too. It's only Geri who centers herself in it every time. I don't doubt that she was heavily involved and often lead on it, but so what? So did the others.

Plus, we know that sometimes they would centre songs around particular girls. Their own producers have mentioned that, and the others girls have always been more modest about bragging about it. That's all I am saying!

Geri Halliwell is the one woman equivalent of Lennon/McCartney!!! Now that's girl power :cheeseblock:

And Give You What You Want is terrible. It will always be so.

Those Mel C's ad libs are terrible. 'pager number' I mean it was over from this line onwards!

The rhyming 'dear' with 'hear' is so lazy and the tone is all wrong.... that lyric 'but that dont mean it's a life time thing' sounds so awkward <_<

They sound quite boring in it as well. It's probably my least favourite vocal from them, like ever. They sound a bit bored, which is sad cos it's such a fast track.

Burn it. Burn it in a trash can!

Not true in interviews Biff has said how Geri was heavily involved and would often run in to the recording studio between takes with notes and lyrics that she had come up with. Then in the David Sinclair biography he writes about how when he interviewed the writers and producers they were all very vocal about Geri heavily contributing. Finally Paul and Andy said that they were given an ultimatum by the Spice Girls to either write with them for the 3rd album or to write with Geri and they decided to go with Geri because she was more creative so it was more exciting...

I am the last to play Geri's trumpet I'm not even massively keen on her, however I don't dispute she was a massive driving force for the girls and also likely the most involved creatively. I think the other girls getting more involved as time went on was one of the many factors that led to her leaving... the main part however was she wanted to do a Robbie and knew the first to leave would get all the attention.

Listen. I give Geri Halliwell all the flowers she deserves: as many as every other member of the group :teresa:

Agree (Geri is one of my faves though)

Ps I'm not saying the others weren't involved, they clearly were as evident by the fact that they have all continued to have writing credits in their own solo ventures, and also the RnB flavours on Spice certainly didn't come from Geri.

Lol I actually find "pager number" to be an endearing lyric due to the fact that it seriously dates the song, that brief moment when pagers were considered as a cool/desirable item. Historic!

The song serves as a glimpse of where they were at during their transitionary period between the pure pop of Spiceworld and the R&B of Forever, that turn-of-the-century pop is so nostalgic and I enjoy it because of that. I just know I would have been obsessed with it had they actually released it in 1999!

I think it's a good song outside of the dated elements of it anyway, that chorus is so catchy and punchy!

At least all 4 girls were involved in the creation of What You Want. Mel C couldn't even be bothered on half of the Darkchild tracks. Mel B didn't show up to record Wasting My Time.

THIS!!! The 3rd album was doomed with that ultimatum.
