Posted April 21, 20205 yr The 3rd album in a year for North Carolina rapper DaBaby. It's set to give him his first top 10 album in the UK this week alongside his first top 40 single as a lead credited artist with the Roddy Ricch assisted Rockstar. However, the track I'm loving at the moment is Nasty with Ashanti & Megan Thee Stallion. Other collabs include A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Future & Quavo. April 22, 20205 yr Been seeing this album getting some pretty bad reviews but from the songs I've checked out from it so far (basically the ones with features plus 'FIND MY WAY') I think I am liking this era more than the last one - nothing as good as 'INTRO' from that but the standard is higher on average. My fave from what I've heard so far is 'DROP', finding the hook on that pretty infectious. DaBaby and A Boogie seem to be a surprisingly good pairing, I really liked their song together on A Boogie's album too. 'ROCKSTAR' and 'JUMP' are also pretty solid, glad that the former should be finally giving DaBaby an overdue first UK top 40 hit as lead artist, it's crazy that 'Suge' never even went top 100 here.
April 23, 20205 yr Author I listened to it on Friday and it went over my head mostly. It was ok but I think he needs to mix it up a bit next time out, it was starting to feel a bit stale. Nasty, Blame It On Baby & Lightskin Sh*t are the only ones I see myself going back to.
April 28, 20205 yr 'NASTY' debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 means Ashanti has now had at least one Hot 100 entry in each of the last 3 decades - very efficiently done as she only got a 2010s 'hit' by featuring on one of the fleeting chart entries from 'Tha Carter V' a couple of years ago as far as I can tell  'ROCKSTAR' has debuted at #9 giving DaBaby his second top 10 hit (shame that 'INTRO' and 'BOP' both stalled a little short of the top 10, and 'My Oh My' as well although that could still yet climb in). That song is really turning into a massive earworm for me now as well.
May 4, 20205 yr “ROCKSTAR” is superb, DaBaby is proving to be one off the most consistent rappers of the past few years for me.
May 13, 20205 yr Author Rockstar is going to be #1 on Friday by the looks of it. I’m still just finding it ok. I wish it was Nasty that was blowing up instead.
May 22, 20205 yr Author Two weeks at #1 for ROCKSTAR now. I'm surprised it hasn't matched the feat in America yet. Must be a matter of time surely.
May 22, 20205 yr It is really weird that DaBaby ended up getting a #1 in the UK (and as the lead artist at that!) before even getting a top 5 hit in the US  such a rapid turnaround after the UK had previously paid him dust aside from 'My Oh My'. 'ROCKSTAR' is killing it on streaming in the US though so I think it is just a matter of waiting for radio to catch up and it will eventually hit #1 there as well (barring there being a massive hit that pops up within the next few weeks to dominate the #1 spot for months). Early predictions have 'ROCKSTAR' set to climb to #4 this week though still a little way off the top 3.
June 8, 20205 yr 'ROCKSTAR' finally hits #1 on the Hot 100 this week, hooray ~ There's been very unusually high turnover on the Hot 100 recently (7 different #1s in the last 7 weeks) but I can see this sticking around at the top for a while now.
June 9, 20205 yr I feel like we're getting something similar to what was happening a year ago, except then, there was one mega-hit that was blocking a lot of would-be #1 hits, but now we're experiencing a non-"Old Town Road" timeline. I think both of these two extremes are going to become more regular in the future.
July 3, 20205 yr Amazing performance, I saw it on Twitter. Extremely powerful imagery, and I really like the additional verse on the BLM Remix. It's made the song really click with me now too after it had been growing for a while.
July 6, 20205 yr It is really weird that DaBaby ended up getting a #1 in the UK (and as the lead artist at that!) before even getting a top 5 hit in the US  How things turn around just over a month after I made this post: @1280207385374494721 DaBaby becomes the 20th artist in Hot 100 history to hold both of the top 2 in a single week, as 'ROCKSTAR' gets a 4th week at #1 while he's received an official credit for his part on the remix of Jack Harlow's 'WHATS POPPIN' which rises to #2 this week. Looks like he might well be coming for another top 10 hit next week as well with his feature on Pop Smoke's 'For The Night' - almost doesn't seem entirely unreasonable that he could hold the entire top 3 in the near future if that song takes off more? Probably fairly unlikely but not impossible!
