Just watched that Istanbul performance and DAMN what a song. What a MOMENT. When Mel C stands up to sing her verse, it's so gorgeous, and Emma and Victoria slaying that chorus!

This is so true! People are a little too wrapped up in the "ballad = sad piano" mindset, me thinks.

Completely agree with you! Maybe the theme should have been called "slower songs" instead, perhaps. I'm kind of surprised that people here have such a fixed idea of what a ballad is tbh (considering we're on a music forum), hmm!

Yeah, perhaps that could have worked better. I do get that sad, piano-based songs are a typical way to distinguish a ballad, but they do come in all shapes and sizes.
